Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: For Everyone??

This whole 2020 trend of smartphones getting more and more affordable is one of the best stories of the year now mind you it's not about the phone companies making their flagships cheaper, it's more about making what we would call mid-range, phones, more and more reliable. Now. This is due in part to how awesome specs have just become in general, thanks to the incredibly high-powered flagships that we've enjoyed over the last couple of years. Samsung is no stranger to this almost quietly, releasing the light editions of last year's phones, but now they're, making their more oddly named Fe edition more prevalent via the s20 line. Fe is supposed to stand for fan edition, but that implies that people who are fans of Samsung will be the ones who flock to this device. I think that if you're a true fan of Samsung you're- probably watching this on your Galaxy Note or your Galaxy Z, flip or fold already, so maybe this phone actually isn't for you.

Instead, Samsung might actually mean that they're going to make new fans out of their latest phone and with competition starting to pop up at around the same price. I actually don't think anyone should sleep on this one to that end, let's play around with what Fe could stand for in this video, basically outlining my takeaways with this phone, a phone that has high-end inspiration with a mid-range mindset. Hey it's Joshua fer gar! What's going on everybody, this is the Samsung Galaxy, s20 Fe, quick thing. This is not a traditional complaints and takeaways video, because, honestly, it does feel a little petty to shine lights on what could be nitpick complaints in a phone that is just trying to be as accessible to as many people as possible. Now don't get me wrong.

You'll hear me talk about some of the things I don't like as this video goes on, but I just decided to structure this video as my takeaways. By playing around with the letters Fe as usual, we start our skin deep and look at the design. I think that this phone gives off some very serious a series vibes a little too much the s20 line at large screams premium and high design, while the s20 Fe marries that, with the slightly less refined and let's say less curvy, cues of phones like the a71, the infinite o display has a punch hole that is a little bigger than what we might be used to by now, as well as a bezel. That is a little thicker, while also being just asymmetrical enough to be noticeable and the camera hump on the back definitely doesn't have any of the overt styling of let's say the s20 ultra. But then again nearly no phone does.

But the merging of these two philosophies gave Samsung a bit more room to play around with the materials and the colors, which might actually be the best part. The galaxy s20 Fe comes in way more colors than basically any other release from Samsung. In recent memory, I personally have the blue edition, which is actually kind of muted, compared to the glowing red or the unique, lavender or orange, and this phone also marks a return to matted plastic backings, which is refreshing and honestly pretty welcome it's less prone to fingerprints, even though, as you can see here, smudges can definitely happen. Eventually, the frame is still made of aluminum and altogether the s20 Fe still feels premium, even if some of you out there still cringe at the word plastic for some odd reason, and if you happen to drop the phone, let's face it, plastic on the bag will probably survive while a glass back will crack or shatter, so fashion meets durability. Here, and one of the main details about this phone is that it is ip68 rated for water and dust resistance.

All this talk about fashionable endurance is a nice analogy for how Samsung is basically dialing back what they can, but still trying to push forward in the right places, which does lead me to what I feel are the good essentials, the things that you need to do well in a smartphone, no matter what price it comes in at the display might not be of a super high resolution. But it's still a super AMOLED display, and this one has a really high 120 hertz refresh rate nowadays in the android space, especially high refresh rate, is one of those big essential items to help ensure everything moves and feels smooth and snappy. And then you get a snapdragon 865 in here, which might not be the plus model. But most people who are looking at phones in this price bracket probably won't really notice a difference between the regular and the plus anyway. Performance simply continues at a high clip whether you're watching media scrolling through twitter or playing games that shine through the AMOLED panel and there's plenty of room to do all of these things, because the base models have six gigabytes of ram and 128 gigabytes of expandable storage.

Finally, the battery at 4 500 William hours is large enough for full days of work and play, but you can get topped up fairly quickly with 25 watt charging or 15 watt wireless charging. Do you see how the story is playing out here? You're, getting all the main features that you would normally hear of in high-end flagships, only they're scaled back just enough to strike that balance between value and practicality. It's something that I keep noticing. Every time I go through nearly every aspect of the s20 Fe, three cameras. That's the part I want to emphasize here at the start of this section.

So I'll say it one more time. There are three cameras on the rear, I'll tie that all together in the end now for the selfie lovers, a 32 megapixel front-facing camera also allows for 4k video recording, which you know. I'm all about, obviously, I'm wearing a face mask so the live focus video which is available for the front facing camera, obviously is uh not going to be able to really isolate me from the rest of the frame. That said, this still looks pretty cool. The glitch effect is still one of my favorite things that they introduced a couple of notes ago, and it's here on.

The s20 Fe still have some fun with this phone on the cameras, but you get three sensors that adorn the camera hump on the back, covering the main focal lengths that you'd probably want in everyday shooting. You get a 12 megapixel main a 12 megapixel ultra-wide and an 8 megapixel telephoto. That telephoto lens is a three times optical zoom, which to me, is a great move because it helps the hybrid zoom maintain a decent amount of detail, even if you're zooming past something like five times. For some reason, and to that point you get 30 times space zoom instead of 50 or 100, which, let's face it are not really ranges that people have used a lot.4K video recording is available at up to 60 frames per second and many of the modes that you might have noticed in the flagship releases are here, including pro video mode with Bluetooth, audio recording, again much of what Samsung has achieved in the high end. Phone continues to trickle down and the s20fe benefits from all of that.

To check this out a 731 pound pumpkin. You have any idea how many pies I can make. Oh, I'm hungry now. Ultimately, the pictures and videos coming from this phone are not the best I've seen, but that's in comparison to some much more expensive phones. What impresses me is how much freedom you still get to have things wide or close up use, different modes and even get manual settings for photos and videos, there's a lot of tools at the creator's disposal.

Even if the specifications don't sound astronomical, if you pixel peep or look really closely, maybe the colors don't really match among the different lenses, but for the general everyday camera phone usage, these things are just slight annoyances at worst. At best, this is a camera toolkit that has all the options to make smartphone photography fun, while not sacrificing too much on the quality and honestly, with the main competition at around six to seven hundred dollars in the price point, this is the phone that will give you the three main fundamental sensors. While I might not be the most avid user of telephoto on my phones, I can certainly see some people using things like a pixel 5 or an iPhone 12, and they kind of wish that they had optical zoom available instead of the lower quality digital zooms. That's why I say three cameras on the back. A lot of the other phones that you might be considering at this price point only come with two, honestly.

It might have been for the best that I'm looking at the s20 Fe now after we know what the pixel 5 and the iPhone 12 or 12 mini, are bringing to the table. I'm honestly really impressed at just how well Samsung was able to balance the scale between high-end experience and good value. I mean right now on Amazon, every color of the s20 Fe is available for 6.99, a price that gets you the Samsung feature heavy software powered by a snapdragon 865 and every essential lens you might want on the camera. Furthermore, I'm comparing this too, but it's not limited to the pixel 5, which is missing a telephoto despite having some zoom heavy camera features and that phone rocks a good but not as powerful, snapdragon 765g. Furthermore, I'm also comparing it to the iPhone 12 mini that, despite having the processor chops comes in at the exact same price, but is again missing, the telephoto has half as much storage has a smaller screen and has a smaller battery if you're the kind of person that focuses on just the spec sheets.

Well, this is the way that comparison would go. It's not to say that any of these phones are better than the others, because that's something you have to figure out yourself through your own experience. But when you just look at what those phones sacrifice compared to what Samsung has been able to pack into this, the s20 Fe is an eyebrow raising Goldilocks, like example. Originally, I was going to name this last section for everyone, but that felt a little too on the nose. No phone is literally for everyone, but the fact that I even thought the s20 Fe could be called that makes me realize that Samsung has achieved something great here, a balance that we rarely see in smartphones, even if it isn't the flashiest phone out there.

I think this is a shining example that all companies should strive for. You should have your experimental phases. You should have your weird phones. Furthermore, you should have your 1 000 plus flagships, but don't forget to also have something that provides many of the same fundamental experiences for the rest of us. The users who want to get in on the fun too, but might not be able to put down the money for them.

Is this fun for everyone, maybe not, but now I think I get why it's called fan edition. It's for the fans on the outside. Looking in seeing videos on the Galaxy Note, 20 ultras and the Galaxy Z full twos of the world wanting to support Samsung with their desires, even if they can't with their wallets now, they have a better chance of getting into the galaxy. And this kind of company self-awareness and honestly outreach is exactly what we needed to see in 2020, and I hope we continue to see it moving forward. And so there you have it my thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy, s20 Fe.

It might not be the latest and greatest and the highest spec'd phone out there, but it still provides so much of the reliability that the s20s did at the beginning of the year, while getting updated to some features introduced later on, and while I say this is an example of what other phone companies should be doing, let's be fair. A lot of them are actually trying to hit this kind of mark, but the s20 Fe is one of the few phones that has some of the high-end specifications that simply dwarf some of the more affordable flagships that we're seeing from other companies. Let me know what you think of the galaxy s20 Fe and let's have some fun. Let me know what you think: Fe could stand for in the comments down below as well have those discussions, and if you ask me, I actually think a note, 20 Fe would be pretty dope, but we'll have to see what Samsung does moving forward with all. That said, though, I'm going to go ahead and call it on this one.

Thank you so much for watching get into the discussions down below or at the very least, just drop some likes on this video and subscribe to my channel. If you haven't already take care of yourselves and each other please, and until my next video I'll just remind you to enjoy your tea, everybody.
