2019 iPad (7th Gen, 32Gb, Space Gray) Unboxing and First Impressions By Jordan Keyes

Hello and welcome back to the channel a couple of days ago, I put out a video on the new iPhone 11 the budget option if you're buying a new iPhone and when I was pre-ordering, the new iPhone I kind of realized that, with all the iPads that Apple has ever released, I've never owned an iPad I had the mini I. Had the air 2 I've had a couple of iPad pros, but I like you see there I kind of skipped a step there. So, as you might expect, I ordered a new iPad. This is the seventh generation Wi-Fi iPad, it's 32 gigabytes, it's the bog-standard, the bottom of the barrel, 329 dollar model and from what I understand this is a very minor upgrade from the last generation. It has the exact same processor as the last generation. So in a lot of ways, if you're looking to buy a new iPad, it might be worth taking a look at the last one, because when I looked at it last, it was still 250 dollars.

This one again has some very minor updates to it, but is it worth paying that additional seventy dollars to upgrade anyway? What comes in the box? What you would probably expect you get the new iPad itself. I chose the space gray, color, there's also silver and I. Believe gold I, don't have the page in front of me. Sorry, you get a lightning ?, full-size, USB, cable, some documentation, presumably with some stickers there you go stickers and a wall charger, 12 watt, USB power, adapter, so 5.2 volts at 2.4, amps, but I guess kind of to stay. In that same vein of why I purchased the iPhone 11, instead of going up to the pro I wanted to see if this device would work for me as opposed to paying an additional 3 to $500 for the pro that has an extra camera and a better screen so far, this has been great by the way.

The same could be said for this paying $30029 for something, as opposed to paying the new iPad Pro is like a thousand dollars to start. So are you talking like a $600 difference? Is this worth the difference? This will work with the first generation Apple Pencil. It has a smart keyboard, adapter I think those are the two main differences between this model and the previous generation, and lo and behold I also picked up the smart Keyboard, although this keyboard now that I'm looking at it, it says iPad Pro smart keyboard, but from what I read online. This is supposed to work with the iPad Pro the iPad Air third generation and the new iPad just iPad we'll come to that in a minute. So anyway, it's an iPad.

It looks like an iPad. It feels like an iPad. Furthermore, it has the touch ID button here at the bottom has a front-facing camera that you're never going to want to use unless it's just for FaceTime or something has a big old Apple logo in the back that says, iPad below it, lightning port on the bottom, with a speaker camera on the back that you probably should never use. There's those smart, Keyboard, Pogo pins volume buttons up here, power button up at the top. It does still, however, have a three-and-a-half millimeter, headphone jack.

That's awesome because as much as people are saying, oh, we don't need it. We don't want it. There are still times when it's kind of nice to have a three-and-a-half millimeter connection, I use them all day every day at work and actually a lot of times when I'm carrying around the iPad Mini, because it still has a 3.5 millimeter I will plug directly into it anyway. Here you go, it started up. It's ready to go.

That was actually really quick. We are ready to sign in get everything going. I guess I could do the quick setup from my iPhone. It's an iPad setup. This is kind of the way it's worked for a little while you take a picture of this thing on the iPad or iPhone, using your phone or other device there, your passcode, and it's going to set it up as my next iPad and while that is setting up I'm going to go ahead and get this open and ready to go.

That was actually pretty quick. It's already asking for touch ID info, but for the smart, Keyboard documentation and such there is the keyboard one of the things I found fascinating about this. The box on the back actually shows it being used in a third position. So you have the closed over the screen. You have the open to the keyboard and in an origami position where normally you'd have to buy an additional smart cover to have something that completely wraps behind the screen.

This one can apparently do that without having to have a second device. That's that's kind of nice. However, this is still a hundred and sixty bucks on Apple's website on Amazon. It was 110, so don't buy it direct from Apple I'll put a link to where you can find it on Amazon. If it's still that price, it should still be that price.

Let's just hope that this fits, and it is the correct one there we go cover it up. That adds a significant amount of bulk and heft to it, but it does fit, and I did hear it latch the screen, and it did wake it back up, and I can unfold. It is completely like that put this in place, and it is holding it in place and then in theory, that's interesting, so it folds up against the back of the device and then the triangle forms, and it magnetizes and sits there. It's a much higher viewing angle at that point, but it is staying on there very nicely and actually a much better connection than the iPad Mini I looked at a little while back very nice I can see myself using that a lot so touch ID now just go I can get it over with love touch, ID still use it all the time on the older iPad by the way on the iPhone. Furthermore, it is saying finish on new iPad.

Keep this near your new iPad. While info is transferred and setting up your Apple ID on the iPad. There we go, you can use an iCloud backup of Jordan's iPad to restore your apps data and settings, and it's gonna. Take a few minutes. It's going to restore all of my apps my settings, my everything to pull in settings from the backup.

That's all fine Apple Pay, I, don't think I'm going to be doing that on this one, SI RI I, don't think I'll be using on this either analytics, and it's going to try to restore from iCloud- and this is probably gonna- take quite a little while to do the full restore install all the apps and everything. So I may actually come back tomorrow morning, because right now, it's like 9 o'clock at night may come back tomorrow morning, just to wrap things up. Let's just see some performance, some video, some audio things like that and just see how it works and the next day we are back. It actually didn't take quite as long as I thought it was going to take to do all the installation, but reinstalling all the apps while it did happen automatically took quite a while, but I've spent a few hours with the iPad at this point, and I'm not gonna, go ahead and say that it's overwhelming or anything or that it's super amazing because. It's not it's an iPad, it's the bottom of the barrel device, but as with all the other iPads that I've touched so far, battery life is good.

The screen looks good. The audio leaves a little to be desired, bringing up a YouTube video, for example, that was as loud as it goes, and while the sound is coming out from both of the speaker grilles over here, it's not terribly loud, except when you're trying to go to sleep. So the low end of the sound is not quite as low as something like the iPad Pro. The loudest in definitely doesn't seem as loud, but it does get the job done and I did use that three-and-a-half millimeter jack last night work. Just fine I've had some minor issues out of my iPad Mini with the three-and-a-half millimeter jack, but this did not have any problems, at least not initially so sound quality, not the best.

The screen, it's fine, the performance again you're keeping in mind this is the $329 device, not $1000 device. So if I double tap on the home button over here, you can see it takes just a second. For that multitasking window to come up we'll do it again just so, you can see it's not that bad, but it does feel a little slower than like doing the swipe up multitask thing, but still that gesture does work on the new IP. So that's that so far in terms of gaming, I've had no problems, as you can see, I've got asphalt, 9 open here, not that I am much of a gamer, but it is getting the job done. I'm not seeing any frame related issues.

You can see. I haven't been playing this game. I just wanted to try it out, but everything looks smooth. Everything seems to be performing appropriately. It looks very nice and even decently new games like this new Mario Kart game, just came out again not much of a gamer, but, as you can see, all the frame rates so far are really smooth, and I've played a few times through these animations look good I'm, just not very good at the game, and even things like the getting over at game.

I've got a lot of things running at this point, so I can definitely feel this. One slowing down a little, but aside from just again being terrible at the game, it looks good in a place. Just fine I'm, also not much of an artist, but the original Apple Pencil does work with it. As you can see, I can open up my notes here: go into OneNote hit the draw button. Then I should be able to just take the pencil and draw all on the screen.

Then do it. My handwriting is not that great either, but it is getting the job done there you go. You can have a little heart. I haven't really experienced any issues so far, but again, I've only been using it for like 12 hours and only for like a couple of hours during that time. So early impressions, I'm gonna, say this is perfectly fine.32 gigs of storage is gonna, be really limited, so using it for travel or something where you want to absolutely load it down with movies, probably won't be the best for that using it as a media streaming device it'll be just fine, especially if you want to use Bluetooth, headphones or three and half millimeter headphones, but again the speakers, while they're not the best they do get the job done using it with the keyboard. I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I do, like the keyboard case very simple to fold it up like that and have one position and then, when you're done fold it back over the other way.

If you want to have that triangular lean back position, which is a little more upright, very nice for laying in bed watching videos or something, but this case is a little of a chunky boy. So once you have it on there, you can probably see this front section is about twice the thickness of the iPad alone. But it's not that bad. You can always hold it by this back section, which is still very thin, and the keyboard with you at all times can be very, very handy for if you need to answer a quick email or an instant message, if you really want to just type that paper up or connect to a server and run some commands and change the world all for a relatively low price. When you compare this to Android tablets in the same space, the closest thing I can think of is the Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e, which I also have and have been meaning to make a video about when I bought the Galaxy, Tab I believe it was 399.

This is 329, so with that additional money, I was able to buy the keyboard to go along with it a little more expensive, not a lot more expensive, I'm, very much. Okay with that, so obviously I'm going to go ahead and give this a big thumbs up. If you don't need that smart keyboard cover, if you're happy with not using a cover or using a folio cover or something the smart cover. Just that the plain cover that you can get and if you don't want to use the Apple Pencil on it, which I haven't actually tried on this one. Yet if you don't need those two things, the last generation iPad is probably gonna.

Do you just fine for 250 bucks, possibly less now that the new ones out that's a pretty good option, but I'll put links where you can find it all down in the video description, definitely happy to have hands on with this?
