TOP PROS AND CONS of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G | 3 MONTHS LATER | IS IT WORTH IT? By Landon Affo

So, it's been about two months since the release of the Samsung Galaxy s, 20 ultra 5g, and there was so much hype surrounding this device from the 108 megapixel camera to the 120 Hertz display the 5,000 William hour battery and so on, and now that the dust is settled a little, and we've seen a few other flagships released. I'm gonna share with you. What I believe are the most important pros and cons of the Samsung Galaxy s, 20 ultra 5g. What is popping guys welcome to today's tech with Land, where I discuss my experience with today's dopes tech. Now, if you're new consider subscribing and let's jump right into these pros and cons, so I'll start with battery life. Pro number one.

The s20 ultra 5g has a five thousand William hour battery, which is one of the largest you can find in any smartphone and the s10 plus last year, sported just a twenty-one. A Hundred million power battery now I'm averaging anywhere between four and seven hours of screen on time and that's with 120 Hertz enabled now I haven't tested it with sixty Hertz, enabled I'm not, not down to downgrade, but I'm sure, that's even better. So that's pretty solid. It's pretty on par with what we would see from a device. That's still just running 60, 60 Hertz, so pretty solid, I know.

A lot of us. Techies were a little concerned about how the 6.9 inch display would hold up running at 120 Hertz at all times. But again. I am very pleased. Now when it comes to refueling, the s20 ultra 5g offers up to 45 watts of superfast charging, and that will get you about 0 to 50 in 20 minutes and then zero to a hundred in about just one hour.

Now, sadly, which I mean this makes absolutely no sense, but the $1,400 device only includes the 25 watt charger in the box, which is still charged, which still charges relatively quickly, but I'm, just not seeing the ultra in that now the 15 watt wireless charging works pretty good as well, and so pretty much, no matter which way you decide to top-up. Your you'll get some solid charging speeds. So, to recap the five thousand William hour battery is arguably the most ultra thing about the S Ultra moving on to night mode, as Pro number two of the s20 ultra night mode photo is out of this. Controversial camera actually do deliver in somewhat ultra fashion. As long as there is a glimmer of light coming into the sensor, I mean this.

Camera is very likely going to produce a very bright and usable image. Now I will say that the camera does seem to struggle with white balance if the source of light is from an incandescent bulb. However, that is something that you can adjust after the fact in you know, Lightroom or even Google photos for that matter, but yeah the photos have quite a bit of pop, and they add quite a bit of texture and contrast to the photo which I really, really like. I will say that it is much improved over the note 10 plus it now also has a timer and an animation to let you know how long that it's going to take the photo and, if you're, using a tripod, it will offer up to 30 seconds for maximum image, processing, and I say using a tripod, because it will not offer that if it detects that the phone is moving. Obviously your hands are not gonna, be as stable as a tripod and believe me, it's definitely for your own good.

Now, with the start of a new decade, Samsung is actually taking a step back from something that they pioneered, and that is the curved display. Ever since the note edge was announced. Alongside the note 4 back in 2014, Samsung has been all-in with the curve the s6 edge had both edges curved and the curved display has been synonymous with Samsung. Ever since now, we've seen quite a few OEMs also used the curved display and, like I, said this year, they're taking a step back, despite everyone's still going all in with that curvature. After all, the years of refinement, I must say that this is my favorite display that Samsung has ever made the hole.

Punch is a lot smaller this time around, and it's really easy to forget that it's there, the hole, punch camera that is I, also love how the rear glass has a very, very pronounced curve, and it because of that it makes it feel very ergonomic in the hand, so I find myself every single day as soon as I get home and I feel a little more safe, I. Take it out of the case, so that I can truly appreciate the design. Now, speaking of the rear glass, the camera module has grown on me quite literally, and while I appreciate Samsung trying to make the camera module a focal point of the design I do not appreciate how it did not live up to the hype, but we'll get to that after a few more pros now. Lastly, the weight of the s20 ultra is significantly greater than previous flagship devices, and I actually do appreciate that it gives it a little more of a premium feel, which is something I was against in the past. You know lighter better, but now the premium feel much better and the device is so proportionate that you can actually balance it on one finger now.

The display on the s20 ultra is absolutely massive at six point. Nine inches watching content on this thing is even better, with its HD are ten plus support and its maximum display brightness of over 1300 nits and for everyday tasks such as scrolling through your Twitter feed or tapping on icons. The 120 Hertz refresh rate, along with the 240 Hertz touch sampling, is so smooth that you will never want to settle for anything less after using this device and the responsiveness and snappy feel of the s20 ultra is in part due to the very optimized pro number 505 1ui 2.1. Now I'm sure you all have heard of the woes of the old Touch ID, which is the previous user experience on Samsung devices. But we have seen some great strides with the advent of one UI and when UI 2.1 takes that even further. Oh, wait a minute time out folks time out, yeah yeah, it's rain time.

Just a minute hold on a sec right now, Samsung seems to have paid much greater attention to the animations, which they seem a lot cleaner, more thoughtful and a little less haphazard. It just seems like it's been exceptionally optimized for the 120 Hertz refresh rate in the 240 Hertz touch, sampling and I really appreciate that it makes the display that much better and Samsung has done a great job with the dark mode craze as an early adopter before Android itself. Pretty much every stock app has a dark mode and that can be scheduled based on the sunset and sunrise or just by a timeframe that you, but I mean, let's be honest, I know, all of us are using dark mode.24/7, myself included. Let me know in the comments below, if that includes you now, if you haven't tried Bixby routines, simply because it has the name Bixby in it, you're a fool, and you're absolutely missing out. Bixby routine allows you to set up a sequence of events based on the.

If this, then that format and a couple that I have set up are when I open a photo editing app, the blue light filter turns off the display. Brightness is maximized and auto rotate turns on, or you know, when I arrive at work. My phone is automatically set to vibrate, the media volume is set to 0% and focus mode is enabled, so I mean this comes in really, really handy for a multitude of scenarios and if you haven't checked it out already, definitely you should do so and if you haven't, let me know in the comments and last, but certainly, not least, is the app good luck now, if you haven't heard of it, good luck is an app developed by Samsung that allows you just greater customization to one UI. So one of the things that you can do is you can change the recent apps screen so right now it's kind of that horizontal look, but you can change that to the list format. You can change that to kind of scaled horizontal flow.

In addition to that, you can change the quick panel. You can change the colors of that you can customize that I mean there's endless things that you can do with this thing, and they keep coming out with new apps for it, and that is one of the many benefits of Android. As we all know, is the customization and good luck just really expands that, and as a bonus I'd like to mention that I really like the fact that Samsung pass has been baked right into the keyboard for easy access to your passwords, and this is thanks to the new secure element, chip that stores that personal. So unless you live under a rock in the days and months leading up to the release of the S 20s, the camera leaks were the most exciting bits of information that we're coming out.

You know there was talk of the megapixel camera, the 100 times, space zoom and the 8k video recording- and you know those features on paper- were set to turn the smartphone camera world upside down. However, that did not turn out to be the case. Not only did the 108 megapixel camera produce lesser quality photos than the 12 megapixel pixel bent images from the same sensor, but the 100 times space soon turned out to be somewhat of a marketing gimmick and the 8k video recording is just math in addition, because the sensor size of that main wide lens is so large and the plane of focus is so thin. We've experienced quite a few inconsistencies when it comes to autofocus with photos and videos which I must say as a longtime Samsung fan it's just very disappointing and in recent years, I've noticed that Samsung tends to focus a lot more heavily on the hardware they put into the cameras as opposed to this software, and this has led to devices with lesser Hardware performing better due to the software optimization that has been implemented and, quite frankly, I'm, not sure that I can say definitively that these cameras are better than the note 10 pluses cameras now I will say: Samsung has done a fantastic job, releasing a series of updates to try and fix some of these software issues, and software updates has been an issue of Samsung in the past. So I definitely need to applaud them on the fact that they've one released software updates in a timely fashion, but the software updates are actually fixing some issues.

Now when it comes to autofocus, there is only so much that they can do due to the fact that they're using a different type of autofocus this year, which is phase detection autofocus. As opposed to the dual pixel autofocus, which is something they were using on the last few flagships now as I previously stated, the design of this display is by far my favorite of any display. Samsung has ever designed. However, I know that there are many of us wondering why Samsung has not enabled 120 Hertz refresh rate at the maximum display resolution of 1440 P out of box. It comes at sixty Hertz, and it also comes at 1080, so you'd have to bump that up to 1440, but you cannot run 120 Hertz at 1440p simultaneously.

Both the 1+8 pro and the OPPO find x2 are capable of pushing 120 Hertz at 1440p, even with smaller batteries. So as the well-documented leader in display tech I have no idea why Samsung doesn't has not enabled this capability. The rumors show that the note 20 plus might be capable of 120 Hertz at 1440p, so perhaps they were just holding out on us so that the no 20 plus can have a know. A few differences now con number three of three, the most egregious kind of them all drum roll. Please a hundred dollar price tag that this device carries now even prior to launch when we knew the specs and the price was leaking.

I was still just a little iffy about whether that price would be justified, and lo and behold it's not the Samsung Galaxy S 20 ultra 5g is not worth $1,400. There I said it I think have the cameras truly delivered, we'd be having a much different conversation right now, and the fact that the 45 watt charging brick is not included in the box really just adds to that lack of justification. Ultimately, I can understand that the components, especially the 5g components, likely costs amps and a little extra money. It's just kind of sad that the experience of the s20 ultra does not equate to the price of the s20 ultra now as a very loyal Samsung fan, having purchased 14 total flagships from Samsung. The latest has disappointed me the most, but the same way they were able to bounce back.

After the note, 7 and galaxy fold debacle I believe they will learn from their mistakes and bounce back even stronger, hopefully starting with the no 20s.
