Pixel 2 XL unboxing in 2021! By Damien Wilde

So in a bid to complete my pixel collection, I've been shopping for the pixel 2 XL, which, if you listen to the internet, is still the most revered of all google smartphones to date. So for those that already haven't checked out my OG pixel XL unboxing, Google's second smartphone hardware effect, strengthens the pixel series big entrance into the mainstream. I've been looking to get hold of the pixel 2 XR for quite a while and after another eBay session. I snagged this for 160 UK tokens completely sealed, which I think is an unbelievable deal. Given the cult status of the 2xl and prices elsewhere online.

The series has changed from device to device and given the pixel 5 is more mid-range with internals. That, in terms of power, are on par with pixel 2. You might want to hold on a little longer if you do have the two XL or the two and are looking to upgrade. You can see google's big push to promote an active community with the hashtag team pixel logo on the back of the packaging. That said, the rest of the retail box shares more in common with the unified made by google design principles on all other retail boxes for other hardware, such as the Chromecast, it's cohesive and minimal, but it doesn't really jump off the shelf, I must admit opening the top of the box and there it is there's the main event which pops out and peeling off the plastic protective cover, and I think I'm absolutely in love with that color scheme also.

I must also admit the cold metal frame feels really nice and weighty compared to a lot of smartphones. Today, you can see the refinement of that OG pixel design, but the difference here is that lg actually made the hardware for the pixel 2 XL. While HTC made the smaller model, google initially asked HTC to design the pixel 2 XL, but that phone eventually became the HTC u11 plus. Would you believe when you turn it over? The pixel 2 XL is actually glass at the top, with a plastic coated, aluminum finish, which is somewhat similar to the pixel 5, albeit with no wireless charging support here. The pixel 2 XL actually did ship with android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed, with some exclusive tweaks like active edge and some other really popular ones like now, playing which identifies songs from your lock screen. The final update has only just been issued in December 2020, while the last full OS upgrade is to android 11, which of course closes three years of full software support, which means that you're good for at least another year.

But there are no more security patches and there will be a lack of androids 12. Google did set the bar, though, with the camera on the OG pixel, but the pixel 2's camera is the star attraction along with that software, that six inch AMOLED display as well stays at 1440p resolution, but now any more common in 2020 and 2021 aspect ratio of 18 by nine. Also, the biggest bonus edition is the inclusion of a dual front-facing stereo speaker setup, which have more or less died on smartphones today, and I do hope, return on more hardware coming soon. Just look at that black and white finish. It's easy to see why it's endeared itself to so many people and the little playful orange power button is another lovely touch that makes pixel hardware so endearing to people out there, or at least it does to me, google stuck with the solo camera, but it is a bigger cutout.

This time, support for 4k video recording is capped at 30 fps, plus the pixel visual core, which processes images faster, is also included here, but it actually doesn't work unless you're running android 8.1, which came in early 2018 via a software update. Putting aside the pixel 2 XL for a moment inside the box, there is an USB to USB charge, cable, no USB c to USB a data transfer cable as well, or the dongle, the switching from another device is present and because the 3.5 millimeter headphone port was removed. There is a dongle to connect wired headphones because there are no headphones in the box. Yet again, the USB charge, brick, is also still clocked to 18 watts, but the overall packaging is a lot more concise with the pixel 2 XL, and the only removals in recent releases have actually been the headphones and quick switch. Dongles.
