LG V50 VS Asus Zenfone 8 In 2021! Comparison (Speed Test, Speakers & PUBG Graphics)

Uh, so it's the same story that we've been talking about on the channel. We have an older flagship, uh versus an uh, newer, flagship uh. So let's go ahead and get started here with the price um. So on the uh before 8. We do have a 700 price tag here, uh, so I'll have those links down below for you to check out and on the lg v50 uh. This phone will cost you around 300 bucks brand new, and you can find it even cheaper um.

You know on sites like eBay and stuff, like that, so I'll have that down below as well. So just to start off with the hardware on both of these devices, I do think the v50 actually is the better looking phone here. It is a glass and metal phone they're, both glass and metal phones, but I do just think it overall looks still sleeker than these in phone. Eight triple camera setup, completely flat, 5g little logo right here, fingerprint scanner. Your power button is, on your right hand, side with your volume, rockers Google Assistant button, and you also have a 3.5, millimeter headphone jack, with a quad DAC as well for high quality, audio listening stereo speakers and USB type c on the before 8. Here we only have an um.

You know we still have a still premium design on here, they're, both ip68 dust and water resistant as well. Dual camera setup. We have our power button volume rockers on here. The headphone jack is actually up top compared to the v50 being down below stereo speakers, USB type c on here um as well um. So you know overall if you know, really comes down to which one you prefer.

I do prefer the matte finish on the ASUS before 8. As you can see, it's not picking up fingerprints like uh the v50 is here now. I do want to talk about both displays on here, because it's a pretty interesting uh comparison here with the display. So if you have a 6.4 inch, poled hdr10 display it's a 1440p display 538 for the PPI there's no high refresh rate on the v50 uh on the before 8. You do have a super AMOLED 120hz display, HDR, 10 plus, but it's 1080p at 5.9 inches, and it's 446 for the PPI. So you do have a much sharper looking display on the v50 and they both look perfect.

I think the v50 is slightly a little more colorful. Actually it looks like a more colorful panel, I just by default um but yeah. So you have the punch hole versus the notch, so I do like the less intrusive notch on the before 8 um, but that 120 hertz you know smoothness, is something that is really nice in your modern day. Flagship um and you know the v50 is still very smooth. It's still a very smooth phone, so the high refresh rate is really coming down to the person, but, as you can see, the big difference here is 1440p versus the 120 hertz, which one would you prefer is the real question here and um.

You know, can you tell the difference I can. If you get up really close, you can tell the difference, but from this distance uh you cannot really tell uh the difference in terms of sharpness, and you would have to pull up. If you pull up a 1440p video, you can tell the slight difference in detail and stuff like that. But again it really comes down uh to the person here, as I do want to talk about software updates. So on the before 8, you will get two years guaranteed update.

That is the official report from ASUS and with lg. They did pledge to continue updating their uh latest lg devices and the v50 was included in that. I believe the v50 is going to get the android 11 and then 12 updates, and I think that's about it, and I think, if anything beyond that, it would probably be on the much newer ones like the v60 or lg wing uh. So do note that I think they pretty much have the same uh or not the same, but I think the before 8 is going to have a slightly better life cycle, but not by much. I was really surprised that this did not get a three-year update pledge.

So that really surprised me so all right. I want to talk about the specs a little more. So on the v50 we do have the snapdragon 855 arena, 640 micro, SD, support, 128, gigs of internal storage and six gigs of ram and on the before 8 we do have the snapdragon 888, arena 660, but no SD card support. The v50 has SD card support, and you do not want the before, which basically means if you're somebody that stores a lot of videos and pictures and video you know just stuff um, then the v50 is going to be better for that uh. You do also have 128, gigs and 8 gigs of ram on this before 8 there's a model up to 16 gigs as well too, which is crazy, um, but let's go ahead and just run a quick speed test.

As you can see, with the geek bench scores um, you can see a big difference with the newest chipset versus the old chipset in both the single and multi-core scores. But you guys know I like to look at the real world performance here. So let's go ahead and launch a couple: applications uh, let's just start off with YouTube, much a tie there and, like I said you'll, you really start to notice um performance differences a few years from now. So, as you can see, it's really not that big of a deal from a 888 to 855 as far as getting into applications in a timely manner. One thing you will notice uh, you know the difference is just the 120 hertz versus the 60 hertz.

You won't notice that immediately it gives the overall uh you know feeling just makes it feel faster uh. But you know, as we can see, we're just launching basic applications, and if you hear that that's my cat's meowing all day um but um yeah as you can uh see not a big deal, honestly. So, if you're worried about well, if I'm choosing between these two phones is one going to be that much faster than the other. No, and also if you get into a heavier game like pub g you'll, be surprised that uh, the graphics, also are essentially the same um so, like I said with this flagship older flag, your phones, a lot of people, don't realize that, and I love making these videos because people don't realize that you're getting still excellent performance. Uh, it's just sort of like minor.

You know. Differences um when it comes to just certain stuff, like a high refresh rate, is really like one of the big things with newer phones and uh. If you go ahead and look at our graphics settings in PUBG, you can see that it is essentially the same. We have um, as you can see, smooth extreme fps all the way up, and then you can see the same thing extreme fps, all the way up. We have ultra HD on both, so your gaming experience, like I said, is going to be the same um so like I was like, I was saying.

The biggest differences uh with these phones is gonna, be most of the time it's going to be screen quality as far as uh high refresh rate and also cameras. Uh charging speeds are also superfast on newer phones as well, which is something that I really appreciate uh, but as far as gaming, you have a more compact experience, which one would I pick for gaming. I probably would go still go with the v50. Why? Because the battery life is better, and I think for gamers you're looking for a bigger screen, but again that varies on the person but um yeah. So overall, just the v50s battery life is better for gaming.

It doesn't it doesn't drain as fast um as these in phone eight. So if I was a gamer, I would probably look towards the b50 for gaming and if you're solely focused on that, you also are saving money as well. All right, let's hear the speaker quality side by side, starting with these in phone 8. Yeah, the bass presence is still crazy. I still think the before 8 is still one of the best speakers that I've tested this year.

This is the rogue phone and the lg v60 are some of the best speakers that I have personally tested here now, they're about the same volume uh actually but uh. You just have a more base presence with the um before yeah. So if you put headphones on you'll be able to, you should be able to hear that or if you're on, like computer uh, and you have a subwoofer you'll hear that base difference immediately. It's very, very noticeable all right. So let's talk about getting into the phone with the ASUS.

You do have faced unlock here. If I can get it boom, as you can see very fast, and also they put the fingerprint scanner at a very good height, as you can see. Absolutely love it. It works superfast with the v50. You have a physical fingerprint sensor, wow all right.

You have a physical fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, you can see right here boom, and I think they feel about the same speed, the in display one and the physical one. Honestly, they feel about the same speed. Also, with the v50 you have faced unlock as well as you can see very fast um. So as far as getting into your device um, I think they both work really fast.

I don't think one is better than the other. The physical one is just as fast as the in display one um, so I haven't had. I have had you know zero issues so far as your toggles go, because people always want to see the toggles. Both these phones have NFC, and they have all your essential uh. You have one-handed mode on the before.

Let's see screen recorder is on here. There should be some more uh. Let me just go down here. Yeah, here are all your toggles on here. As you can see, you have a glove mode, a refresh rate toggle your multi window and then on the v50.

Here we do have our DTS, which I love toggling on and off-screen, recording, hi-fi, quad, deck and uh. You know just all your you know basic stuff, as you can see, so those are all the toggles on the v50 uh, so yeah. So I do want to talk about the cameras on both of these phones. So you would be surprised um, even though I think the ASUS takes uh better photos. I don't think the v50 takes bad photos at all, even before it owes a flagship phone.

I just think this is uh. You know the main sensor is definitely more detailed, but what it lacks is a telephoto lens. So let me go over uh, the camera specs, for you guys so on the before 8, you do have a dual camera setup, 64 megapixel standard in a 12, megapixel ultrawide. You also have 8k video as opposed to the 4k video on the v50. You have a 12 megapixel selfie that also shoots in 4k um.

So, as you can see from the shots here very natural colors, very good detail, it does not struggle with over exposure. The ultrawide is great but, like I said it is lacking that telephoto lens that the v50 does have now on the v50. You do have a 12 megapixel standard, 12, megapixel telephoto, and it's 16 megapixel ultra-wide it shoots in 4k. So it can't, you know, shoot up to 8k like these in 8, but you also have a dual camera setup on the v50 up front. So you have a regular selfie, then a wide angle, selfie and that's an eight megapixel and five megapixels wide, but the v50s front camera only shoots in 1080p as opposed to the 4k on the before.

So, as you can see, the before just has the overall just better specs on the cameras, but as far as just stills and image quality, I think you'll still be very happy with the v50. It takes very natural. Looking shots as far as color goes and also dynamic range is good. Uh detail is good, and you have a perfect telephoto lens on here as well, which you lack on the before. So I think cameras are, you know both great you just have to choose between which one you prefer all right.

Let's talk about the battery experience on here, so you'd be surprised to know that you actually have a 4 000 William battery on both of these phones. They actually have the same size, battery uh, but the v50 gets way better battery life and I believe it's because of the 120 hertz. Now I'm going to do a test where I toggle the 120 hertz off and see, if you know I'm running at 60hz, but here's the thing running it at 60hz makes no sense because you're paying for the high refresh rate. That's why you're paying this amount of money um, but battery life is just not as good as it is on the v50 um. So the v50 does a perfect job with battery life, and also the v50 does have wireless charging as well.

There is no wireless charging on the before 8, so I do note that now also one thing to notice is that uh, the before 8 has way faster charging at 30 watts compared to the 18 watts on the v50 um, so it just charges much faster over a cable but yeah. So overall, the battery experience is better. You get wireless charging, and you get um just overall, better screen on time to me so yeah. That is pretty much it that pretty much wraps this video up guys be sure to. Let me know what you guys think, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
