This is Lisa from mobile tech review and I like this one a lot. This is the Lenovo yoga 710. This is the latest edition. Late, 2016, Intel KB, like seventh generation CP, is a little revision of the casing. Really it's more affordable than the yoga 910 series, as you'd expect. The numbers go up as it gets more expensive, but this is pretty neat because it's available in 11 inches, 14 inches and 15.6 inch sizes, which is the one that we have here. This one has low end, but still Nvidia dedicated graphics.
It's still very slim and relatively light is still 360 degree. Convertible and the price is lower -. It's not bad at all. We're gonna look at it now, alright. So what do I like about this? So much, not the fact that it shows fingerprints.
This kind of nice matte black gunmetal, finish, does show fingerprints. It's a little hard to clean, it's sort of like one of the Samsung laptops in that respect, but this two one convertible is available in three different sizes, which sounds like a late-night infomercial wait, there's more than three different sizes for the great price of, but that's what Lenovo does with the yoga 700 series. Unlike the top-of-the-line 900 series, where there's just one size and that's it this one, you can get an 11-inch starts at $450, there's a 14 inch which is the same size as the yoga 910. We just reviewed that starts at 8:50 and this one starts at 9:50. This is a 15.6 inch 4.19 pounds which is about 1.9 kilograms. It's pretty slim ?, as you can see here, it's good-looking, it's metal top and bottom.
It's well-made it's every bit as nice as the 900 series, honest like, and even better the 15-inch. Nothing 11 inch, not the 14 inch, but the 15 inch is available with Nvidia 940, MX, graphics, dedicated graphics switches via Optimum with integrated graphics. So that's a little of a step-up from Intel HD 620, graphics, not a huge dump, because this is the 2 gigabyte ddr3. It's not the DDR 5, the even faster version of the refresh 940 MMX family, but still it's enough to get you from the 30s at 720p resolution and low set and some popular games. Take it's a 40, so Bios hock Infinite's Skyrim this sort of games rights there and makes them actually pretty playable.
Even some newer games that are pretty well optimized. You might actually be able to play battlefield 1 at 720p low settings again, but you know even if you're getting into the upper 30s for frame rate for a first-person shooter, that's not so much ideal, but for Fallout 4 it could be doable. Overwatch is pretty undemanding, relatively speaking for one of today's most popular titles and that you could even get up into the 50 frame per second. If you're playing a 720p resolution, GTA 5 also does pretty well. So this is the updated model for late 2016, with Intel's seventh generation KB leg, dual-core 15 watt, CPUs Lenovo is still selling the sky leg version, but you know not really in a price drop, so I don't see a reason to go with the older model.
Again, if you get the 15 inch right now, that's bundled with the Nvidia graphics. The smaller models don't have that you get Intel, HD, 620, graphics and the big change with KB Lake is really mostly better power, optimization so somewhat improved battery life and better integrated graphics. So for those of you do go with the integrated graphics, smaller model as well. That's a benefit we're talking between 6 and 10 percent, graphics improvements, but maybe 2 percent for CPU improvements. It's really been about power, efficiency for Intel and KB.
Lake is a super minor refresh. Really it has eight gigs of ram and a 256 gig SSD for that base price of 950 bucks. So that's pretty good. That's a SATA, 3 interface SSDs, and we're going to show you the internals right now we discover about what you can and what you can upgrade here. Ok, so taking this off involves 10 torques t-50, where the hinges are longer, so remember that when you put it back together again, this has a lot of plastic Clips.
This is metal. You can hear if it's good quality stuff here, but it does have still plastic retaining Clips too many of them. My favorite tool for prying and open here and grab it by the USB ports and separate it's going to take some effort to get it apart. Once you do, then we've got inside two fans, one for the CPU one for the GPU right there. There's your Intel 82, sixty Wi-Fi, your m2 SSD slot right there, SATA again, SSD supplied I suspect.
That's all that's probably compatible with, since this is supposed to be they're, not top of their line. Cream of the crop like, but 9/10 is now because they only offer this with eight gigs of RAM. You might think it's soldered on board right, but see this mysterious little metal cover. That's not something! You often see, there are all sorts of little annoying metal clips that hold this to it. These are metal lists, but they probably weigh pretty easily, so it's kind of hard to get in here.
But let's see we can not destroy that there we go. We got it off. What's that look at that there it is its a ram. Slot has an eight gig stick of RAM in there, so in theory, well, there you go. If you get yourself a 16 gig module, you can upgrade it.
You just got to be careful, have some patience because I sort of got. This is probably really here mostly just to keep you away from it in this case, but hey you know you can put it back on again: it's okay! You don't break it by taking it off just from work, those little metal Clips around the edges. Right there see those little devils there. They are they're holding this cover on top, which probably serves no RF purpose, but you never know so. I put it back on afterwards, so ports.
Well, it's not as port constrained as some Ultrabooks these days and power button is right here on this side. I, you know, I wish it was indented a little once and while I've actually turned it off accident when carrying it around. Because of that, we have Mike micro, HDMI boy, I haven't seen that in a while, so you're going to need an adapter. If you want to plug that into your normal HDMI, monitor or TV to USB standard 3.0 ports, one of them supports charging like for your smartphone and on this side. That's where your charger plugs in an SD card slot yeah, it's nice to see one of those they seem to be going the way of the dodo bird in 2016 and there's your combo mic headphone jack stereo speakers are on the bottom there and there one on each side, and they are quite loud and full for an Ultrabook.
Really long does a very good job with most of them. Yoga is when it comes to audio, so you got JBL speakers and Dolby audio Dolby software. There's only one display option for the 15.6 inch on it also for the 14 inch it's a full HD 1920 by 1080 panel. But so, if you want higher resolution sorry, you have to look at 900 series from Lenovo. But that said, this is a very nice panel that has a very good color saturation and contrast, and viewing angles of course, are good because IPS and you move it and other than the glare, because it's a glossy display, like all these touchscreens are it's good and supports touch, does not support an active pen of any kind.
So sorry, if you want that, there's Lenovo ThinkPad models that have pen support, you can use the capacitive stylus like you would use for an iPad I. Think it's really a shame, because you've got a 15-inch display here. You've got dedicated graphics. It's really would make a nice little artists machine but well nope, that's not what it is. The despite covers 97% of RGB 74% of Adobe RGB.
So that's pretty much typical for the thousand dollar price range, and it's good 320 nits of brightness, and then one thing about this is the brightness ramp. Is it just about disappears into darkness unless you go to the very last brightness levels on the brightness ramp is a little odd on this one contrast is very good at 790 to one thanks to zero point for black levels and that pretty high brightness and sixty-seven hundred degrees Kelvin for the temperature. So that's pretty close to the ideal, which is 66 hundred degrees Kelvin, as something else unusual and laptops. Most of them are way too high, which means everything looks to blue gamma is a little high at two point three over at all. It's a really nice looking display great for watching movies.
It's certainly easy on the eyes, even if you're looking at webpages. Yes, the resolution isn't that high, but it's fine, and you can actually use this at 100% scaling, which means no scaling if you have pretty good eyes, which is always nice, so you can avoid those fuzzy dialogues and things like that in legacy programs. That really don't scale well, the trackpad on this I, like that they put this contrasting bevel around it. So you can feel when you've gone off, because the textures are fairly similar. It's pretty good, it's a little on the fast side with default settings, but of course you can change that.
It's a synaptic trackpad, so you can see you've got one finger, gestures, multi-finger gestures, advanced gestures; overall, it's a pretty good trackpad I, like the yoga 9, tends a little better, but this one is absolutely fine. The keyboard. Now it's enough unusual weirdness that they do with yoga's. Lately, you've got a truncated, Shift key on the rights and so at first that's probably going to bug it. Because you're gonna reach over here I want to hit the ship.
Can you hit that page up key instead, but other than that? It's a normal keyboard. It's a pleasant keyboard, good key travel, not clack e, not noisy, hit FN + space bar to turn on backlighting and again to turn it off beyond that good keyboard and notice. Here we have a fingerprint scanner, just like on the yoga 910, so kind of lay your finger on works quite well for Windows, hello, login. This just has a straight 720p webcam. It doesn't use the camera for windows, hello, login now, unlike the yoga 910, where is some folks complain about very audible, fan eyes or frequent fan noise.
The 710 has been good for us now when we first got it, though the fan was on quite a bit, but not really loud, but still make sure you use this. Your Lenovo companion, it's a Windows, Live tile, a p-- and do the system update feature right up here. For some reason, the laptop isn't shoving updates down your throat, like some notebook vendors, do, and you'll actually get an update for something called power management, advanced configuration and power management, SE c--, p, I-- driver for windows that took care of the fan noise for us so, generally speaking, fairly quiet. The laptop has a four cell fifty-three watt hour battery, which isn't that huge, a battery honestly, it's okay, and you get the same sized battery for the 14 inch as well. Lenovo claims up to eight hours of use.
Typically, we've been getting about six and a half undoing lightweight work, productivity workers, streaming video if you're pushing it if you're doing photoshop and Lightroom, or something like that. You of course you're gonna, get shorter, runtimes, probably more like five and a half or six. Maybe unless you really set your brightness love charger. Is this seventy-three point three watt hours square charger is pretty compact, and it uses a barrel style connector, not that well know about square connector that we've seen not USB, see because well doesn't have USB see so for those who are on the fence between the seven ten and the nine ten here they are together. Of course, this is the nine ten is a fourteen inch are not a 15.6 inch, but I know some of you are watching this probably interested in the login 7 10 14 inch model, so you can see. I mean they're, both very nice-looking laptops, so the biggest difference here in terms of looks and build quality.
Actually, is you get the polished sides on the 9/10? You get this beautiful watch band he otherwise functionally it burns. Was there pretty much well the same because they're both running KB, Lake, Intel, Core, i5 and i7 CPU as well them and put on I-5 yet for the 910 they're, just going high-end with the i7 right now and of course, a direct competitor? Is the Dell Inspiron, particularly the 7000 series, which is the higher end of the inspired miles, and the Dallas seems a little chunky and old-fashioned? To be honest, it's a pretty thick design, it's nice! Looking at its! You know, metal too, and you get your little polished edges over here, but the Lenovo is more of the looker functionally though they are both convertibles with 360-degree, hinges and touch screens, and you know no Penn support. So that's the Lenovo yoga 710, specifically the 15.6 inch size and there's a lot to like here again remember to do your driver updates. If you hereare some fan noise, this is like the 9/10, where some of you have it persistently. The driver updates really fix it for this one here, and it's a strong performer as Ultrabooks go and bigger.
Ultrabooks for the money- and it's neat that it's a convertible design. The only thing that you might wish for is a pen which, like many convertibles, is lacking here. You can use a capacitive stylus like those men for the iPad, but that's it the iPad, not pro, by the way that one has a special pen, I'm Lisa from mobile tech review be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more cool tech, videos and thumbs up.
