Wiko Ride Review (Boost Mobile)

Hey guys this is Mike from be tech reviews here and today is the review of the week o ride by boost mobile, hey guys, welcome back to my channel, and today we're going to take a look at the Hooch ride by boost and mobile, so this phone I've had it for about a couple of weeks already, and I haven't really messed with it too much in the past couple weeks, because I was at reviewing phones like the cool pad legacy, because I got that phone around the same time. So you know over the weekend, I really got to testing out and using this phone a lot more than I had been you know, other than that. I had just been messing around with it as far as like just jumping from app to app, but for the most part guys. Let's go ahead and talk about the week, oh right here so again, this is a $39 smartphone that you can get off. Boost Mobile website I'm, not sure if that's going to be in retail environment as well, but it's a relatively new company, weaker right, and I hadn't heard of them. I actually had originally reached out to week.

Oh, about sending me a review unit, for you know for my YouTube channel. Obviously right, and unfortunately they told me that they do not send out units, or they were not sending out units at the moment to YouTubers so which I think is a lie but any who you know, I guess this is a know, very, relatively cheap budget smartphone that you can get physical 15 feature wise. It does have a five point. Four or five inches touch display two megapixel camera in the front and a 5 mega pax 5 megapixel camera in the rear all-around. It does have kind of like a nice.

Now not a soft touch back, but just kind of like a pattern. Texture on the actual back. Let's see if I can get that to focus there you go, so it's something! That's really not going to slip. Out of your hand, you have your LED flash. You have your speaker grille here in the back, and the back actually is removable, so you can actually add in a know: I want to say a micro, SD card slot or a micro SD card.

So that way you can save up to you know whatever pictures on there and video that you guys want to do removable battery also it does have a 2500 William battery as well. So for those of you who are still liking removable batteries and like to carry those around here. That is an option for you. You know this phone only does have 16 gigs of retinal memory by the way. So for those of you who are our App hungry and want to download a lot of games or apps, you know you might want to look another way, because you know you're not going to be able to download a lot of games or apps on this phone.

You're gonna probably get the bare minimum of this one. So cool thing about this phone is, though it does come with Android 9.0 Pi out of the box. So for those of you who are wanting the latest version of Android, this is going to be something that you might want to look at right again. It's not it's! Not it's, not a phone that you know. You're just going to want to gawk at or whatever you know it does have its flaws.

You know it does have any micro USB charging ports, so no USB type-c. Furthermore, you know it does have a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, though, for those of you who are still into that screen wise I, believe it's pretty much the sweet spot for the screen, but I'm just not a fan of the way the screen looks, and I'll go over more that after I talk more about the specs here. So, but aside from that, you know, this thing does run off of the a2 2 gigahertz quad-core processor, and it has 2 gigs of RAM. Ok, so it does run smooth from time to time, I mean when I'm jumping from app to app. You know you do get a little of a fluidity here and there, but for the most part this phone does tend to stutter.

Ok now, when I mean stutter I mean like you know, it does take its time, opening certain apps so like right. There I'm just testing that out for you guys, you can see how long it took for Twitter to actually open up and again I. Don't know that you know it again: it's a $40.00 smartphone! You know. Boost Mobile has this on their website for $80, but they haven't already half off. So, basically, it's a brand-new phone -.

There you mark down, half off so I, don't know when week over when you start this phone up by the way a week. It's it does tell you and let's see, if I can do that, for you guys here it does tell you. Let me restart it that week. Oh, is its a game changer, so you know we cope being that back there I'm restarting the phone just so that you guys can see. We go right.

So it's saying that it's a game! Changer! Let me see if I can get that on the screen. Again. Sorry guys the screen is not very much to gawk at, and it's a fingerprint magnet also because it's just chili plastic here we go. Let's see we can show that changer, so it won the won. The phone starts up.

It tells you it's a game-changer right, but for the most part, I don't know how this thing is a game-changer when it's lacking a lot of things like doesn't have a fingerprint sensor. First, so if you want any type of security as far as that goes no fingerprint sensor, so that's that's how the gate? Yes, you're gonna, have to go back to the old school pin, pin security, lock or even facial unlock I believe this phone should have facial unlock with the 9.0 feature. Right now, it's giving me the do. You want to activate your phone because I haven't activated this phone, so pretty typical of Boost Mobile, but for the most part, though I mean again, you are gonna, get what you pay for on this phone. It's not it's, not a phone that it's gonna, you know, do a lot of things that you want it to do.

For you, as far as you know, it being I, guess a very fluid phone that you can just you know, take out of your pocket right away and do a lot of things with security updates. So this thing is: has a security update? Let me see if I can change the ISO, really quick and oh, my goodness so long and the reason being is that I'm not a fan of Android because of the white backgrounds that you get to see here. But it says here: security updated up to March, 5th 2019. So for the most part it does have that feature, and it does have faced unlock also by the way, and again I'm. Sorry, if you guys are getting blurriness there yeah it does have faced unlock.

So you know it does have that feature. I, don't think! I haven't even activated it yet because I don't think it's gonna work very well. Just because that front-facing camera is pretty bad. Let me get the ISO back up for you guys, but for the most part you know this phone is going to be a phone that you're just going to use because you either broke your perfect phone, and you just needed a cheap phone to last you a couple of weeks to maybe about a month while you're you know saving up for a Bret for a better usage phone. Ok I could see this folk going to like someone that does very minimal things that someone that just checks their email or someone that just wants to do basic things like text messaging and maybe reading articles on it's so-so I mean there.

There is that you know what I mean. As far as you know, the features of the smartphone goes. I mean you're not going to get a lot of bells and whistles guys. I mean it's. It's pretty plain: Jane, vanilla, Android, you're, going to get very minute minimal, apps, just basic boost apps off the phone.

You know as far as usage goes, let's check out Twitter here. Just for you guys sees and again I'm. Just going to show you guys like how this I'm just gonna, do a quick scroll and see how this works. So, like look at that, it's just very it's very slow. It's not very fast.

It's gonna! Furthermore, it's going to give you a lot of stutter Enos for the most parts. So for those of you who are looking for a very fast phone, this isn't it again at times, I have been impressed. You know I could because I feel like sometimes this phone does want to run smoothly like right now, when I'm popping up the app drawer and everything like that or if I'm switching app to app, you know what I mean it does get the job done. You know what I mean, but for the most part, you're gonna still experience a lot of lag and stutter Enos from this one. So again we go ride, not a game.

Changer. Okay, along with that the battery is only 2500 William battery, so you're not going to get a lot of bang for your buck for the battery. You are going to have to charge this thing at least one time throughout the day, depending on the usage. So, if you're constantly looking at your phone, you're going to get maybe three-and-a-half to four hours on screen time at the most, even though you know that they'll advertise it as a lot longer. Probably but again, you know, take it with a grain of salt.

You know that that is what, with the usage that you guys are using so again positive things about this phone are again it that it's running Android 9.0 and that it has expandable memory. As of now, you know what I mean for at least that's for me everything else. You know it does like a lot of things, but again you are paying what you get for. You know for people that want to make comments saying well, yeah, it's only a $40 phone like you can't expect much. I know that, but when the company itself advertises that it's a game changer like you know why? Why do I say that, especially on the startup screen, you know what I mean you're not going to get again bells and whistles you're, not gonna, get that fingerprint sensor? You might get facial unlock as long.

It works good again, I haven't even I, haven't even tested that out, so that that's one thing that you know you guys can look at later on. If you decide to purchase this phone, and I'm just not going to because I feel I did, I did not feel like this phone had a lot to offer to begin with. So for the most part my suspicions were right. I did take pictures and videos over the weekend just to test out the camera, so I do plan to show that to you guys so right here, as you can see here like front facing camera, you know I'm, just going to take a picture real, quick just because, but I did take some pictures and videos over the weekend, and I'm going to show them to you real, quick guys, but for the most part, camera feature wise. It's not very it's not very good, but it's not very bad either.

You know the camera does have a lot of little features here and there you know it does. Have you known your facial, Beauty or whatever here an enhancement I can blur out the background. Also, so it does have a blur feature, or I guess what you would want to call a portrait mode right. One, that's very washed out, though it does have a facial and skin tone feature. Also, so I can make my skin look better.

So I mean it's interesting that it has all these features. It does have a time-lapse mode. Also, video mode also only shoots in about full on the rear it shoots in 1080p and on the front I can't tell you, there are no specifications on what the camera resolution it is cropped, though, as you can tell, though, so if I were to switch, you know the camera back. You know to that. You're going to tell the difference right away, but when I switch it back to the front, you can tell right away that there is a little of a crop, especially on video modes.

So there's me I'm, not recording anything. I'm going to show you guys a little of video and pictures that I took over the weekend at a Pok?mon event that I went to. So, if you guys are into Pok?mon shout-outs to you by the way, but let's go ahead and take a look at that guys and then you guys. Could you know to see for yourself how good the camera works? Okay and today we're going to test up the camera and picture quality of the week, oh right by GU small ball again. This is a $40 phone that you can get right now, most Mobile's line up it's running Android, a 9.0 already out of the box as relatively a under rated spec I want to say I want to say the specs are not that great, but at the same time I mean for 40 bucks, there's only so much value you can get for your dollar. Obviously, and the fact that you know this is a phone already running.

Android PI out of the box is interesting to me. So today, I'm, actually going to you, know, take this out. Take pictures I'm going to a local Pok?mon event. It's called pokey fest down here in McAllen, Texas, and I'm going to check it out. I want to see if I can get some video and pictures of the event with this phone since I'm going to be out there testing this out right now, I am using the front-facing camera and I.

Don't have the phone that close to me and there is a bit of a crop with the front-facing camera. I do not know the screen resolution height I do know that the rear camera does shoot at 1080p. This one I think it's probably just going to be VGA or 480p from the front-facing camera, since it is a 2 megapixel summer. So again, guys bear with me. I'm going to go ahead and head out over there, and you know we'll check out the camera quality.

Ok, all right. We are here at the 2019 Pokey fest at the McAllen Convention Center and again. This is me shooting and 1080p on the Hooch ride and relatively sunny out here today. It's about like 95 degrees, South, Texas, heat and I. Just want you guys to get kind of a visual visualization of the actual I guess footage again.

It says that it's recording in 1080p I, don't know if it's 30 frames a second or whatever and I don't know if I can downgrade the resolution either to 720 or if it's just one setting altogether. But as you can see here, the parking lots pretty packed. We got guys one of those, hopefully the mic, qualities in bed- I'm, not using any external microphones here. So I just want to see how good this thing tees tests out today and see how the stabilization is again. I'm just walking here.

I do have this on a gorilla pod. So hopefully the stabilization doesn't look horrible, but again you guys, like I, don't know how you tell me: how does this look? I'm, probably just gonna, put this in with the entire review altogether. Overall I'm, not a hundred percent satisfied with this phone. Obviously it's a $40 phone. You pay, you pay what you get for.

Obviously- and you know I guess we'll just see how it goes from there. I'm gonna, once I get inside I'll, probably just take pictures in there. Instead of out here because, you guys are used to seeing outdoor shots now, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna, see if I can get some good indoor shots and maybe take a few pictures of some cosplay as well, and we'll see how it goes so again, this is the beautiful McAllen Convention Center. It's like. We got some people cos playing already it's a Pokemon outfit over here, just carrying some squirrels I'm over here wearing a Digimon shirt which is probably gonna, be weird, but that's alright, we'll get some footage once we get inside, and we'll get, hopefully some decent pictures, but again guys you can see here, that's the little water area that I usually film at, but let's go ahead and get myself inside, and we'll go from there.

Guys. Okay, nice pokey, Fest 2019 at the McAllen Convention Center guys forget what this badge names called, but they play a lot of retro video game. Songs, I wouldn't consider a halo, a retro, video game, I guess but doing halo. This isn't Guitar Hero, guys, testing the zooming feature all right, I'm here at pokey, fest 2019 I'm, just getting some random shots here, right now, they're doing a cosplay contest on stage over there over here at this booth they were playing some games. There's a video game tournament set up over here, and I'm.

Just going to walk around guys, so you guys can kind of see the video quality of the Ricoh right here and this place is packed. I didn't think this is a Pok?mon fest that they have done here once a year annually, and I got some guests over its bad I mean packed, but it's really busy right now in see here all the plushies more night plushies you got dragon I get are all these Pok?mon that I don't even know the names to, because I haven't followed the game in forever. Alright, but I hope you guys are getting good audio quality. On my end, it's pretty packed here. I just took a picture with a giant Pikachu right now, and that was pretty fun here.

I didn't take them as many pictures that I wanted to, but I'm hoping that the video quality for you guys that's pretty good, like giant squirrel in the background. Look at you walking that way, so we're getting out of here hoping the light. Oh, is it that way? Okay, my bet I'm exiting the wrong way. That's all right! So, okay I'm going around here guys but hope you guys enjoyed the video quality of this cellphone. Yet again, I don't know the screen is really washed down, so I'm, just not a big fan of the screen in general and there's a lot of people here still.

But this thing this events coming to an end very soon guys, so I hope you guys enjoyed the little of footage that I took here at this event, and hopefully you guys just enjoyed the video in general but again keep an eye out. I am also doing an unboxing of the ZTE, visible r2. So keep an eye out for that, and again we'll see you guys next time. Thank you. You all right and we're back guys.

So I hope you guys enjoyed that. A little of pictures and videos that I took over the weekend at the Pok?mon event again, nothing to gawk at the pictures are very grainy. So is the video again, you guys are gonna, get the $40 worth of this phone. You know, then do it. You know if you, if you plan to buy this phone, do it I, don't see anyone purchasing this phone just because they want to purchase this phone.

Though again it's going to be a backup phone, or it's going to be a phone for your grandmother or grandfather. Who is not really tech-savvy and does not really know how to use smartphones very well, obviously, but for the most part you're, not gonna, get good heavy damage. Gaming usage on it, you're not gonna, be able to download games like fortnight or pub G and be able to get a good experience on it. Let's see what else for the most part again, you know it's going to be used for basic things like just Twitter checking your Facebook checking your email picture wise again. It is what it is.

You're not going to get a lot of great things and for those of you who are interested in I've, had people ask me this before it does have an FM radio app by the way it's right there by the way. So for those of you who are interested, it does have a built-in radio app, but you need to plug in a speaker or not speaker, but you need to plug in some an auxiliary cable to it to for the antenna purposes, but guys this is it. This is basically the Hooch right in a nutshell. So again, if you guys like this video, please give a thumbs up that you know that's my pit. These are my opinions, so again they're very subjective, but at the same time you know yeah.

You know that that was my experience using the phone over the weekend. So for those people that are disagreeing with me, go ahead and leave a comment down below and tell me why you disagree, and then we can go from there. I can. We can have a conversation, but for the most part guys, it's not. You know for what it is.

You know it's not a bad phone I mean I, wouldn't I wouldn't want to bash. We go too hard on this. This is the never first attempt at. If got a smartphone, you know if they did. If they do decide to continue making phones here in the US, then I recommend that they, you know they upgrade the power just a little, maybe give it three gigs of RAM.

You know what I mean on the next device, whether it be the week, oh right, ? or whatever you want to call it add a little of better build quality. I mean to me if this thing had a better screen on it, because the screen is horrible by the way it's the screen is very washed out. Like you really, you only get to see it if you're looking directly at it. If you even just move it to the side or start angling, it just a little. You're, not gonna, you're, not going to get a good user experience.

So if you're, watching, Netflix or YouTube or whatever, you really have to have this thing facing directly at you, otherwise you're not gonna, see what's going on the screen other than that, though, you know again we go for what it is. You know I thought I think for a first attempt at a smartphone. You know it's not completely horrible, but at the same time you know again you are getting what you pay for. If we go watches this and decides hey, you know, I'm going to make a better phone next time. You know again, you know just a few more little things that you know more consumers would have paid an extra 30 to 40 dollars for, like that fingerprint sensor, you know nicer, looking IPS display or an HD plus, is what HD plus display got better sounding speakers, because the speaker's sound, awful I didn't even want to play back any type of YouTube video because it just sounds really muffled and hideous, so, so other than that, though, I mean, if you guys, plan, to continue making smartphones.

Please try to improve these little things and from there you know the user experience is going to be a lot better. So again guys. This is Mike signing off from be tech reviews, if you guys, like this video, give it a thumbs up. If you guys, like my channel, please subscribe and as always thank you all for watching, we'll see you guys next time.
