Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey, so you see the red lights behind me. Do you know what that means? We're here to talk about something unpleasant and today, unfortunately, it's the pixel 5 8.5g anybody Bueller anyway, so this phone is the source of a tremendous amount of problems, especially on Twitter right now, because there's a lot of arguing going on. I wasn't the original person to discover this, but I've really been talking about it. A lot. The pixel 5a has got some heating issues, and I've noticed that the phone itself seems like it's getting hotter than I would expect it to, especially in normal inside climate, but the big particular problem is when it comes to the camera. You would think that being a pixel product that the camera would be the most locked up area on this phone, there seems to be an issue whenever I'm recording in 4k at 60 frames per second, I'm getting an overheating warning, and it's shutting off the camera, and it stops recording it won't.
Let you record again until it cools off it gives you the warning I tested this. I was sitting in a restaurant over at Applebee's, it's like 70 degrees in there, and it did it in right about four minutes, and then I came home and I tested it out again in my bedroom, 68 degrees, air conditioner, on ceiling fan on oscillating fan, on like three minutes and like 50, something seconds I took it outside in the shade, where it was 90 degrees outside nice, little breeze in the shade it did it right about two minutes just under two minutes. So there is a significant problem when it comes to an any phone, it doesn't matter if it's a pixel, if it's a Samsung, if it's an apple phone whatever, if it has a feature, especially like 4k 60 video, and it's shutting off because it's overheating within minutes, that's problematic, and it gets worse, and we're going to talk about it in this video. But before we get into that, okay, whatever yeah I've been talking for a while, but just go with me here. If you enjoyed the video, please hit the like and the subscribe button and little notification bell.
If you want updates, when new videos come out, let's talk about the pixel overheating problem. So, first and foremost I like this phone. I think it's a good phone. I am not happy about this overheating thing, but I think where a lot of people miss the boat, is it's okay to criticize something, and still like the rest of it? It's not saying that this is a bad product, I'm enjoying using it. It has a nice screen.
Furthermore, it's got a big 6.34 inch, OLED screen, it looks nice. Furthermore, it works well, perfect stereo speakers ip67. Furthermore, it has a metal unibody case surrounding the internals. Furthermore, it's also got some like soft touch layer stuff on it. I've actually got a sign case on here.
Right now, don't tell them, though I don't work with them. I bought this because I like their cheap cases, but they actually told me like maybe a year or two ago that I didn't have enough engagement. I didn't have a high enough subscriber space for them to work with me, so I said screw them and I don't work with them. They've actually asked me before, and I'm like. No sorry, I'm not working with you now that it's convenient for you, because I have a big enough fan base.
No, I'm not working with you, but don't tell them. I buy their crap because I still like their seven dollar cases anyway. So I like this phone. I think it's good at 449 dollars with the pixel camera you're not going to find a lot else like it out on the market, especially with the night shot with the Castro photography, with the portrait photos with all it does a lot of magical stuff with the processor and the camera. Well, it's a good experience.
Android 11 until you start trying to use the video and that's where it becomes problematic, and I was experiencing heat issues on 4k at 30, although it took a little longer, I got the heat warning after about five minutes, I was having some issues with the camera too. Still photography anytime, you have this camera app on, for whatever reason it's like it turns on every single core in the snapdragon 765g, that's in here and runs it at a million miles per hour. I've not experienced anything like this before it's like when you turn the camera module on like just doing this, not recording not doing anything, it starts getting warm, and I guess the CPU is right under the camera, because right here in this space behind the camera, it starts to get hot, and it starts to radiate out into the entire phone 4k 60. It gets hot fast, and then it will give you the warning, and then it will shut down shortly after that shut down the camera, not the phone stays on, and it's kind of laggy and issue-y, and it has a heat problem, and I don't understand it, because I've tested out several phones of the snapdragon 765g. Last year, the lg velvet, the TCL 105 gun, the Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy a71 5g, the pixel 5, and now the pixel 5a, the pixel 5 and the 5a have the same processor.
So does the 4a5g? I don't know if it's because of this metal body design and then these layers of coding that they put on it. Maybe it's insulating the processor. Maybe it's trapping in the heat too much. I don't know what the issue is. I really hope it can be fixed by software if anyone can do it as google and silver lining they've already actually reached out to me, I sent them all my user report stuff for my Guam model that I'm using for the software build that I'm using with screenshots.
Furthermore, I have faith that they're going to do their best to try and fix this Google. If anybody they're good at this stuff, it's their operating system, it's their phone. I am not too overly worried if it could be fixed, they can do it. I hope it's not a hardware issue, I'm not going to jump to that conclusion anywhere near that right. Now, I'm just waiting to see what happens.
I mean it still. Has the June security update on it, so I'm waiting for a new software build anyway, I'm hoping that this will get fixed very soon, but I noticed this as soon as I took it out of the box I went outside the afternoon. I got it. I took some pictures to get ready for my unboxing and first impressions, video, and I was shooting pictures outside, and it was probably like seven. It was dusk, the sun started to go down, but it was still a little warm outside taking some pictures taking pictures of my wife outside.
Maybe it's her, maybe she's just too hot, and it's setting off the phone she'll appreciate that comment, but no, she wasn't what I was taking video of today. I just turned the camera on and let it record it was like looking at the table and like the floor, nothing, nothing crazy. I mean I wasn't even outside. Furthermore, I was inside for the first time that I tried it and yeah under four minutes and the camera would lock up and no no more recording heat issues wait until we can record again that's very problematic and a lot of people are upset about this saying. Well, you know it should get a pass.
It's a budget phone, nobody records it.4K 60. The first thing I did as soon as I took it out of the box is put it on 4k 60. So I don't really buy into that argument. Yes, I'm a tech person, but there are other people out there too. My wife likes to record in 4k 60.
She's, recently a YouTuber, but she doesn't even do that for her YouTube video. She just likes to record at the higher frame rate, so there are people that use it. The whole thing is its a feature in the phone, and it's something that needs to be addressed: team pixel, I'm part of team pixel. I may not be after all these shenanigans ain't, not shenanigans, it's just looking at it from an independent perspective, testing it out and saying hey. This is a problem.
Google knows about it. I told them they're going to look into it. I firmly believe they're going to try and look into it and fix it. So that's what this is about if you're a tech, reviewer and somebody sends you a product to review- you don't just say- oh well, hey this feature is not working right, but it's only a 440 449 phones. You know people aren't going to really use 4k 60, so we'll give it a pass.
No, you say: hey, there's an issue here, you raise it up to the manufacturer here being googled, so they can fix it, and then it works for everybody if they can get it fixed or maybe disable it is causing problems. That's how this works. So I don't know why people are getting their feelings. Hurt it's a feature on the phone. The 98 of the rest of phone is good.
I like it a lot. The resounding criticism so far is people really like it. It's a good phone. So if it has heating issues, let's try and fix that. That's what we do if you're a reviewer you test things out.
If you find problems, you tell them, and then they go. Okay, thanks for the feedback, and they try to make it better and that's what's going to happen here. I have confidence in the system in the process and that's what I'm telling you too. You guys rely on me and other people who review these things to tell you hey. We tested this.
We have problems here, we're concerned here. You know and that's what's being done right now. The process is just working its way out the way it's supposed to work. So I don't think google is going to kick anyone off team pixel. I don't think I'm going to get kicked off team pixel, it's just a joke, I'm glad they sent this out to me, and I'm glad that they trust me enough to believe in you know my ability to test out the phone and tell them if something's wrong.
That's that's the way that the process is intended to work. So just so, you know right now it has a heat issue when it comes to the camera 4k 60. Yes, if you're outside using it for a prolonged amount of time. It even has issues for k30 and with still camera photography, and some people have even reported at 1080p at 30. So it seems to be a broad category issue.
When this camera is in use, I hope they can fix it with software. That's all I have for this. I know a little longer than I initially got into I mean I went to go talk about the camera and end up here. We are like 10 minutes. So thanks for watching, hopefully this has been helpful thanks for taking the time to watch and following me and believing in me as a reviewer, to tell you these things and tell it to you straight and test out the hardware in a fair, objective and unbiased way.
That's what we're supposed to do. So, that's all I've got if you have a question or comment, please feel free to leave them down the comment section I'll get back with you. If you enjoy the video please hit the like and the subscribe button and the little notification bell. If you want to update when new videos come out and as always thanks for being here, I appreciate you watching, and I'll see you guys next time you.
