THE FATE OF FOLDABLE DEVICES! By J. Williams

Hey guys welcome back to another video with your man jay, so this video we discuss foldable devices in the future of foldable phones. Now this discussion can go on and on for days to come months to come years to come. I think it's just going to be in our conversation, because it is something that people are interested in whether they want to believe it or not. Everyone can use a foldable device. It just has to be the foldable device for you and I think that's where a lot of people probably draw the line, or they really don't know what they want when it comes to a device. If you've ever taken a marketing class, you'll hear the instructor saying people don't know what they want until you tell them what they want and in some situations that could possibly apply.

But I feel like when it comes to foldable devices. People are just on either one side of the fence. They either like foldable devices, or they think they don't just based on a couple of minutes in the store or what it looks like or what they think it does not have, or they feel it cannot do for them, and I think the only way to get to combat this is to get more foldable into people's hands. And the only way that's going to happen is that in a foldable, affordable, foldable price, let's try saying that, like five times, affordable, affordable price, whatever um, I think, when uh ZTE first brought out the axon m, which is my ax. I am right here still like brand-new works, great, not the fastest as far as processing power when it comes to day-to-day tasks, but it still in fact works, and it could last if this was my only foldable device.

The plus side to this is the size of it. It is super compact, and then you get to open it up into two separate displays, and I think this is the direction of foldable to what I like now z, to e tried to combat this by having the screens on the outside and then having them fold up like this. But the problem with this design is that your screens are exposed, and you definitely run the risk of cracking them, and it's sad because this is a nice premium, build that's on this side of the device, and it too suffers from that one camera deal just like the Surface Duo with just one camera now, ironically enough, both of these devices have decent cameras to where it would work for you, but the design of the Surface Duo is more realistic because the screens open on the inside, which is more realistic for daily use, and you can go ahead and go 360 degrees and use the device like this. So the Surface Duo to me whether you want to believe it or not, the Surface Duo has helped put foldable back on the map. For a couple of reasons.

It has a design of a premium laptop and, if you've, in the thing about this, is, if you've never felt the Surface Duo uh if you've never held it. If you haven't gotten it off that bracket and taking it home and use it for four or five days or a week, you really don't know what it's like to use. A Surface Duo now understand those people out there who don't want to spend the money on this because they feel like it's a flop because of the software respect, but I can tell you this device is not a flop now that the software is completely updated. When I first purchased this device back at launch, when it first came out, the software was horrible. I kept it for a couple of months sold it well when the price drop aside from the price dropping the software has been updated now granted we are in July, and it is still on the June security patch, but the fact that they're making updates and have been making updates, since I had it last- is a good deal.

Now. Foldable devices' device is going to come down to the design I sold my z-fold too. I love that device. It was a great device. I actually chose it over the surface dual at the time because of the software and the cameras, but now that the Surface Duo has software has been updated boy.

Do I really like it, and it is hard to put this device down, but I really wish ZTE would have capitalized and made their device with the screens opening and closing with them on the inside? This form factor in this size can can get more people into foldable, meaning this device had what two 5.2 inch displays next to each other, the hinge on this device. Almost, I almost want to say it's even better than the hinge on the Surface Duo because of how sturdy it is uh. It has the same modes as the surface dual you just can't flip this device inward. So the snap that is the hinge. Listen to this! That's the hinge on this device.

This is a sturdy device. It's just that the screens are on the outside. I'm sure that more people, if they could get this device in a folding device, this size foldable, would be in more people's hands now, even though this device is fairly thick, it's actually not that much more, not that much thicker than the Surface Duo. It just has that extra screen on there now, ironically enough, the surface dual is the same size as just this portion of the um exon m, with it uh open, but I think that carriers, probably or OEMs, are probably doing it wrong. Foldable devices should in fact come in smaller form factors because you don't need to always open up into this huge device right here when you clearly can open up into a device like this, we don't have to have the biggest foldable screen once we open it up now the hinge down the split screen down the middle.

That actually is to me not the worst design now after using the Surface Duo and having two different apps on two different screens. So this design, I'm a favor of over the um, the z-fold 2, because z-fold 2 is more in line when you're using multiple apps like this. But the difference is the apps aren't actually on separate screens, so you can't really get the functionality of having two separate screens a lot of people laugh at this design, saying it looks silly there's this crease down the middle. But again, I think a lot of people have never really owned a foldable device like this with two separate screens attached together, while people try to clown that, I think that's. This is actually a much better design because you genuinely get two devices, and can multitask better.

I think so uh, and you have the option to spread this software over both screens. Now this is where certain the surface dual comes in and doing it better. I think ZTE had an opportunity, and they dropped the ball big time with this device, because this hardware is super premium. I remember when I picked this up and I started to tell people you need to grab. This is a hundred dollars.

This was a 900 device a year later or however long it was later, it dropped to a hundred bucks, and I told everybody you need to buy this device. You may think you're not going to like it, but everyone who bought it put it to the test, and they actually liked it. So if carriers can get this foldable style uh where it opens up into a tablet mode in a smaller package, I think we will definitely see the rise of folding devices hands down. No, if ends or busts, we will see a rise in an increase in foldable foams period, the folding device of the z flip, that is just a folding phone, and it's meant to be that way. It's meant to give you that compact size, and you don't really want a tablet in your pocket.

Well, that's where phones like this come in and the z fold three and zfo2 and z41 those are for people who want a very large tablet like device in their pocket. Now for those that don't want that, and they just want a phone, then I highly recommend the z-flip. You just can't go wrong with the z-flip. It is an absolute beast of a phone, I would say, and it's just that some people used to say it looked like a woman's um makeup kid. I was different.

All these jokes, that people make up most of the people who say these things or tend to go to bash first have never owned any of these devices period, and that is pretty much how it goes in the industry. I think the fate of foldable devices is going to lie not on Samsung. It's gonna lie on companies like Microsoft, making them with this type of setup. ZTE could bounce back easily by bringing back this same device, making the screens a little bigger, putting it. They could literally come back with this device change.

The internals make these screens corner to corner and even though they fold on the outside it's a step in the right direction. It really is, or just go ahead and break down and have it fold with the screens on the inside. This design was so ahead of its time. This was just great man. This was one of the best designs ever, but it just wasn't ready for prime time, and again it fell victim to the'm gonna, be on a carrier only, and I'm going to price it at 900 bucks, and when you think about it, this device was technically worth 900 bucks.

You got stereo speakers, a headphone, jack metal, build two screens. Oh, it's loaded, and it's a small compact form factor for those that wanted bigger. You have a Surface Duo and then those that wanted a giant tablet. Like experience, you have the z fold line up. I think the z flip 3 is probably going to sell very well this year coming up, there's a link down below where you can reserve yours, but I think the fate of foldable devices is going to lie heavily on Microsoft's next step, because the fact of the matter is people actually like this device.

They just didn't like the software. Some still report that they're having software issues, software folks um it comes down to way too many things. So if you're having software issues still on the Surface Duo check the applications that you have installed check, um how your ram management is getting used, because this device only has six gigs of ram check how your device is going, eliminate applications that you are just not using, you don't know, what's using resources, so I highly recommend that you clean up your device. Yes, this device has some software issues, but now folks my device runs so smooth, and I technically still have the same apps on there from pre from the previous gen previous one. I had it's just that this one has the updated software so whether this device will get android, 11 or not- I don't know it is supposed to, but if it doesn't, I'm still happy with the way it runs.

Now. That's just me so the fate of foldable devices. Personally, I don't think it's going to lie heavily on Samsung. I think it's going to lie heavily on Microsoft, because this device is getting way more attention and, let's be clear, I'll, be honest, yeah. It is getting more attention because of the price, but the fact of the matter is folks.

This is a great device and that's all I have to say about that. So where do you think the fate of foldable devices is gonna lie? I think it lies heavily on this design, because I think this design is a much better design yeah. It could use some improvements. Some people just have to have an edge-to-edge screen.
