The EJ Tech Show: Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite reviewed! By Hindustan Times

Well welcome to the EX tech show on sale and sitting right next to me is so hum and on this episode we've got a very special device lined up for you, but first I'm, just gonna. Try to get this off his hand he's emotionally attached to it. I'm going to give it back to you after the discussion. Okay, so this is it. The tab has six light. This is the watered-down version of the Samsung Tab as six that was launched last year.

Now. Why I find this to be an interesting device is because some would argue that the Android tablet ecosystem the whole device is the range of devices that we see from and when it comes to tablets is a dying breed okay, especially to consider that it is dominated by Apple to a large extent, but even Google's, given up on them right, so Samsung clearly hasn't got that memo they're still at it. I think that's pretty interesting! So I, remember you saying possibly exactly the same thing. Yes, the task ID review had the exact same words we plagiarized from ourselves. Okay, no big deal go home.

To be honest, they're absolutely accurate words, the Android Market is a dying breed and Samsung seems to be the only brand. That's even remotely interested in trying to capitalize on the fact that there's a complete vacuum in this area, and they've been doing that with the tab series, with the tap an as the entry level series, with the tap s6 as their flagship series, and now with this, which seems to be a sort of stopgap between the two. So my highlight for this. My main feature which I really enjoy was the long battery life. Now it has a 7040 mAh unit, which means it really keeps its battery.

Well, it holds it well and even when it's idling when you're not using it, it doesn't really drain the battery all that much, which is something that's usually a problem on, say, iPads, etc. Even if they're just connected Wi-Fi and lying in a corner overnight, they will train like five ten twenty percent of their battery life. This doesn't what about in terms of usage, what sort of numbers is we looking at so screen on? Time is usually with mixed usage. It's somewhere around six to seven hours, which is pretty decent and that's with a few sessions for gaming. A little of web browsing a little of Netflix here and there.

So overall, it's really it's got about over 7,000 mAh battery right. So that's that's pretty large capacity for a tablet. That's expected! Suddenly I can't say the same thing about what you get when it comes to charging speeds. This isn't exactly a fast charger. So in my experience it took me slightly over three hours to pop up this bad boy which again isn't fast charging, but then again with such a large battery everything you have to pop it up all that much either.

So that's that's that advantage, but yes, no charging, not very good I mean you would have worn slightly faster charge, even phones now giving you way faster charging, so I would expect something much better on this in terms of topping up the device. So let's talk about display now because Samsung is known for their displays. No one! Does it better than Samsung when it comes to this place. Is that the case with this as well? Oh, in some cases, yes now, the unfortunate circumstance with me is that I use the tab, s6 and that had an OLED panel, which is really nice. It's really crisp and smooth.

This, unfortunately gets I think an LCD panel, and it's no higher refresh rate. Of course, it's a tablet, but then again it's not OLED, so there's no deep blacks. So whenever you're watching content, which is something that you're going to do a lot on this device, it's not the best experience it's good, but not the best. That's a little weird that Samson hasn't included all it is because they do that even with their low budget devices they exactly once again, all I display are why they have any curator, I'm sure, there's some reason: getting the cutting corners to keep costs down, not sure exactly what the reason is, but yeah I would have liked to see an OLED screen on this for sure. But despite that, it's still a very nice screen.

It's the brightness level is really high. It's vibrant! Furthermore, it's punchy! Furthermore, it does have slightly low resolution when you compare it to the iPad, the sixth generation or even the seventh generation, one, but still a very decent one. So if you're watching content, you're not going to have a problem with if you're, watching Netflix Amazon Prime it's going to be great. YouTube is another issue because it's set to 480p, so you can't really enjoy it in its full HD glory. But there's that caveat that that's still there, but no, but there is one good thing that this has on its display that iPads don't.

This has a nearly 16 by 9 aspect ratio, which means none of your content, which is usually going to be natively. Widescreen is going to have huge pillar boxes or black bands on the top at the bottom, and you won't have to zoom in and then lose a bunch of content, even on apps, like Netflix you're, getting a full screen display, which you don't really get to do with. Let's say a normal, conventional iPad. Okay. So, let's quickly come over to design, so glass on the front looks like an aluminum body on the back.

What are you feeling it feels premium to me when I'm holding it in my hand, it's quite premium in this black color? It's really nice, it's kind of like stealthy black color. It's all matte finish yeah, it's slightly slippery, but that's okay. You can always slap on a cover you can buy from Samsung, but it's slim. It's quite slim. That's something that they've managed to do why you're keeping a headphone jack.

Actually it is quite easy to hold with what happens. Well, yeah, that's something the Favor 6 wasn't able to do. They made it thin, but then no headphone jack. This still gets a headphone and still gets a headphone jack, so you've covered for your essentials. You also go to USB-C port over here yeah and, of course, a very important thing.

The speakers of it got dual stereo speakers exactly so yeah I'm tuned by AKG, so great brand. It's very good quality you'll get stereo sound. So if there's something happening on the left, you'll actually get it on the left. Unlike with other tablets, even including the iPad, which say they have dual speakers, but they're both on one side, so you don't get that surround sound effect which you'll get from this okay, so cameras tab is not really known for the camera prowess I mean. Is it the same case over here pretty much it's good enough for your document scanning and the odd picture that you need to take, but for video calls I wish there integrated a better camera on the front, because this is something that could become a sort of companion to your work from home experience, and for that a nice video camera would have been better, but still it's not all that bad, it's still usable.

You can easily get your video calls on Zoom', etc. done with this. Yes, that's with the 5 megapixel camera. Yes, ok! So another missing feature for me, and it's a little strange because the tab has 5 light came with a keyboard. This one doesn't have those connector hoses connector pins, so you can't put any kind of dodgy keyboard over here, and you know I think it's a big missed opportunity, especially considering a lot of people are right now, given the current situation or people are working from home, so you should have at least am some should have given that option to people.

You got it with the five light. You got it with the s6, but you don't have it here, honestly. It would just boost the productivity aspect of this tablet, all the way into the sky, because an affordable, um, not entry-level, but an affordable tablet, device Android with a keyboard and of course this gets mouse support as well. If you have a, if you have a Bluetooth mouse, you can just pair it up, and it works like a charm. You get an actual on-screen cursor, okay, so coming over to the performance, and I've got some mixed feelings over here and also a lot of confusion.

So this one was on Samsung's homegrown, Enos, processor, yep, and I'm. Not gonna lie to you not the best performance I've experienced on a tablet and that's a little weird, because I have these devices that have had Xmas process a lot of Samsung devices that have them and usually I, don't face a lot of issues. I know the Enos processor is capable of more, so it got me thinking that is it a problem with the software I was getting a lot of lags. It felt sluggish, especially when interacting with the user interface. So obviously is it.

A software issue feels like a software issue, but then it's up-to-date. It's called Android 10 right, that's perhaps or 10 or Samsung one you buy two point, one not even 2.0. So it's absolutely up-to-date. I honestly think the processor is just being limited by the fact that there's only 4 GB of RAM here now you can only do so much with the processor. You do need some amount of RAM to back that up.

I think this is better honestly for kids right now, because, if, let's say you're, a parent, and you're buying a tablet for the first time, you don't want to get your child a mobile phone for their daily use. You want to get something: that's fresh, that's just a sort of shared device between the family, so you can get a tablet. Now, let's say you don't want an iPad, you're more comfortable with the Android interface. You can get this and this will actually help your kids with the current scenario, which means they're all locked down. They do online classes and this really comes into play there, and it gets an included as pen.

So if they want to just draw around there's a lot of coloring modes, there's a lot of apps that actually have built-in templates, where you can just color or draw so that way, it's great for kids and number, the S Pen and credit where credit is due. Samsung gets what Apple and my growth just doesn't understand. If you're giving a device that offers you stylus functionality then include the exact iris with the box. Don't make people to chase them separately? It's just ridiculous. I mean everyone markets it as, as you know, this is a device for creative artists or just people who want to really draw or just get their creative juices flowing.

But then you don't give them an S when you say: hey, buy it, but then also buy this exactly it's extremely transparent marketing, and it's been happening for decades. Now. We can't do anything about it, but then I'm still glad that Samsung actually does bundle in the S Pen, along with it. Now, unfortunately, it's not a very powerful I spent. There are no gestures, like you had with the tablet 6 or with let's say the no, but honestly I didn't really care much for those gestures.

They were more of a gimmick really, and it's its fine. As an S Pen, it's got 4096 pressure points or so the same as your Apple Pencil first generation, so you're going to be able to do all your graphic illustrations as well as you can do on sorry on any other iPad or any other tablet. Interface, okay, so pricing, all right. So this is priced at a 30,000 rupees. This model is more than 30,000, because this is the LTE variable, but the non LTE Wi-Fi only model costs under 30k, okay, so starting is under 30 K.

Good pricing, bad pricing: what's your take on this Oh honestly, it's a stopgap between let's say the tab, an entry-level series and the flagship tab, s6 series: it's not bad! This is the logical pricing, but I still think with. Let's say the iPad 6 generation to compete with it's not offering you as much as let's say the lure of an Apple device might but then again, if you're more comfortable with Android. If this is an entry-level product for you, if you're trying to save as many sorry as much money on it as you can, then this is the more logical option for you, and you get an S Pen to boot, included in the box. Yeah, and like you said it's good for kids, it's also I felt that the display- yes, isn't the most powerful Samsung display we've seen on a device, but it's more than enough to give you what you want in terms of content: consumption, ok enough about tablets.
