The iPad generation 8 that just came out is a fantastic device and by itself it's a pretty powerful piece of kit, but what are some accessories that you can buy to make the experience even better, like over here, let's find out, I didn't want to break it this time. What's up everyone, I'm the everyday dad and if I can figure it out, you can figure it out. So I want to start off this video by saying: congratulations. If you bought an iPad, the good news is you don't actually need a single thing to make it great. If you want to use this as a content consumption as a content, consumption device, this tablet will do everything that you want it to do. It's crazy good, but if you want to use this as less of like a bigger version of your phone, there are some accessories, and these are accessories that I use on a daily basis that take my iPad from just being that bigger screen for YouTube and really turn it into a productivity tool.
Now I've been using this in the last week in the way that I've been using my iPad Pro for what six months now, as this has been my productivity tool, I've been doing my calendar scheduling, email responses, script typing all of my work. Besides, my main video editing here on the channel has been done on the iPad generation 8, and these are the accessories that I used to make that happen now. The first thing that I would say is almost required if you're going to try to turn an iPad into a professional device, you're going to need a couple of things now, one I, actually. This is my favorite thing that I found in recent memory, and this is just I don't think that we've talked about this one before we've talked about some of these accessories before, and this is not necessarily a specific item accessory. These are types of accessories that you should then look and find the best price that fits your budget on each like category.
But this is a specific stand that we have not talked about before, but getting so to set up a computer of almost any kind is like a productivity tool. One of the bases that you need is a base right, so I like having little travel stands like this. If I'm going to have like a computer setup now, I do normally run on a magic keyboard for my iPad Pro and that acts like a stand for my iPad Pro. However, the iPad, the standard iPads, don't have that kind of device. So getting a little stand like this, so you can get the iPad facing you and up just makes it like more ergonomic to look at it.
Nobody wants to look down like this at a little device. It makes it, so it makes it so uncomfortable it'll hurt your back. It'll hurt your wrist. Furthermore, it hurts everything so having a stand like this was from a company called galaxy. I'm sure there are hundreds of these things on Amazon.
If you were to look for them, but it's just a little travel stand that is. I was actually using this with the Microsoft duo, but it got repurposed to the iPad. This little thing is fantastic, but that means you need another like we're: building a base, we're building something around it. So the next thing I would say is you really need a keyboard now you don't need a keyboard, that's as expensive as the apple magic keyboard. I would say this is definitely overkilled when the keyboard costs.
What like a third of what the iPad costs but being able to have it set up where you've got your iPad ready to go, and then you've got your keyboard for answering all your emails or all the work that you're doing this right here is a good setup. If you're going to get one like kit to make the iPad into like a functional productivity device, it is 100 some kind of keyboard and some kind of stand and like right here, you can do everything now what I would say if you're trying to take this to the next level of like productivity, if you're going to do this and one of the real big benefits of iPadOS. Since iPadOS 13 is you get real mouse support and I don't mean like that: really weird accessibility, mouse support. I mean you get all mouse support, so I've got a variety of mice here from different price points that you can consider and all of these work really well the Logitech MX master 3. This is probably the best mouse on the market like this is its expensive, but for the price, I don't think you could find anything else, that's better than this mouth.
It's ergonomic. It fits in the hand really well, it's got like two modes of scrolling. You can scroll vertically or horizontally like this mouse. It's. It is the best mouse that you're going to find, but you don't want to spend that much necessarily.
You can also get something like the apple magic mouse and that's not a very popular choice. You could also get something cute like the Logitech pebble. This is a friendly little mouse that does have scroll. It does have double clicks, it can be Bluetooth or wireless. You can do either um.
This is just a fun little portable mouse that I've been throwing in my bag. If I could only pick one mouse out of all of these mice- and I wanted to do video, editing, I'd probably go with the magic mouse. You just kind of got to learn to figure out how to use this, but it's the way that, since you get a lot of the same gestures on this as you do on like the screen here, the magic mouse is a fan. It's probably the best option, if you're just looking for one thing, but if you're just looking for a little travel, a little cheap travel setup, the pebble works great, and you can set it up with you know: a cheap little stand a cheap little like 15, Bluetooth, keyboard. This thing and you're.
You don't need anything else like this is a straight up: legit productivity powerhouse, productivity, powerhouse, productivity, powerhouse, productivity, powerhouse, productivity, powerhouse, productivity powerhouse productivity powers. I said it five times fast. Honestly, I didn't think I was going to be able to so yeah. This is the way that I would start it off, but you've got your initial base of things. You now are a productivity monster with your iPad, but you just want one thing, and you don't necessarily want to buy a bunch of things, and you do have a little more money to spend.
I would say, maybe then get the smart folio keyboard from apple. Now I don't of all the smart folio keyboards like you can get for the iPad Pro, probably the new iPad Air. This is my least favorite one. I don't really like the way that this is set up, where you have to do like this weird fold around thing, and then it's supported. Can you see this is like supported by this triangle and then to get it back in? You have to do like this folding flipping around thing.
I don't like it as much, but if you are just looking for some to be a protector for the screen and a keyboard at the same time, it's really hard to say anything bad about this. This is actually the one that I used for a very long time on my iPad from last year, the iPad generation 7. This is what I typed all of my scripts on. This is what I did all of my camera control back when I used to use the limit gh5, and I needed camera control. This did everything for me and I used this keyboard, but you can hear.
Can you hear that that typing drove my wife, crazy and for the sake of my marriage, I had to abandon this as a keyboard, and again it's fine, it's okay! It does have very nice protected keys. The typing experience isn't terrible, but it's just. I don't really like this. If you're trying to do real work, get the keyboard get the mouse and then, if you're, trying to protect your screen too, you can get something like this now. This is obviously the iPad Mini, but the way that I'm going to show this is for this.
I don't have the screen protector like this, but they make the exact same one for the iPad, and it's just it's basically the same thing without the keyboard and it just it's just a little stand. It's just a little stand, and it protects your screen get this with a cheaper keyboard. If you're trying to save some money- and I think getting this with the cheaper keyboard and the mouse and the stand, I think that's a better option than the smart folio keyboard by itself, but you're out you're doing some productivity you're at a cop, we're in a magical time when we no longer have to socially distance. You can go freely back to a coffee shop, you're going to need some power or, if you're at work, and you don't necessarily have access to a lot of walls, plug-ins you're going to need some power. This is my preferred power solution.
We've talked about this before this is just a manpower, 15 000 William hour battery. There's nothing too special about it. It does USB-C for power, it does USB-C for power. It shows you a little indicator here of how much battery life is left in this. This video is not about specific things like this, but just get some kind of external battery.
You can find these for, like 15-20 bucks anywhere. They come in all shapes and sizes. They come with so many ports get one of these, because this will keep you going as you're out working. If you can't find a wall to plug into batteries, gotta always have a battery, so something else that you always gotta have when dealing with an iPad is dongles. So I have an assortment of little connectors right here and because one of the things that sucks about the iPad generation 8 that I'm not so thrilled about I'm very excited to see the iPad Air 4 come and fix this.
It does have lightning you'll see. This is an assortment of lightning connectors. We've got the lightning to SD card lightning to HDMI, with USB and the lightning to headphone. You don't really need lightning to headphones, since this has a headphone jack. I just it's an it's a lightning dongle that I decided to grab with me, and you get a dongle like this.
This is the dongle that I bring. If I am trying to do like some kind of importing, this is just a cheapo. Does it say what I don't even remember where, like this brand is, but this has USA, it has SD and micros, and it has USB. So you can do a lot of the same that you'll get here. You won't get any HDMI, because it's not USB, there's only so much.
You can get out of lightning because lightning sucks. If you're trying to physically connect something to the iPad, or you're trying to import footage from like a SD card, you will need a dongle. Here. Are my assortments of dongles that I'll leave I'll leave a few in the description below you got all this stuff. You're going to need a way to cart it around right.
So I love recommending this. I try to recommend this in every video. No native union does not sponsor me, but this is my favorite. I love like. I have a bunch of bags to carry around accessories because I love accessorizing my gear, and so you need some kind of bag to carry it around, and this is easily my favorite accessory case.
Furthermore, I do. Furthermore, I think I've been talking about this for seven or eight months now, but this is a high quality accessory bag. You can see it can fit everything in here. You can fit some air pods that we'll talk about here in a second, you can fit your chargers, you can fit like pencils, you can fit every you can fit all sorts of SD cards. Furthermore, you can fit everything in here and the best part the best part about this thing is it has legit zippers.
Now I can't tell if these are PKK or not when's. The last time we got to talk about PKK zippers. Why? If you don't know why KKK zippers are the best zippers that you can find these? Are these PKK? I don't think these are PKK, but they are fantastic. They got a great bite to them. Listen to this.
You can also see that the zipper like right here it's got a water resistant like taper to it, which is fantastic, I won't say waterproof, but it's water resistant, one of the thing. If you're looking at bags, you're looking at clothing or any kind of like tailored gear, you want to look at the seams. These seams are fantastic, it's not double seamed, but it's not that expensive of a device, and it's not built to be like that rugged. It also has a nice little pouch here. On the end, I love that I recommend this thing so much.
This has been everywhere with me. I keep all of my. I have to every time we make this video. Furthermore, I have to dump all the accessories that I normally keep in this bag, so I can be like check out this bag because you can put everything in it. Furthermore, I love it.
Furthermore, I love it. Furthermore, I love it. So let's say you are at work, or you're in a place where you can have like a wall adapter. Let's start talking about some of my favorite wall adapters, so this is an anger USB wall adapter. So this is a little faster of a charging than the standard, one that comes from apple plus.
It is very much like the one that comes from apple, like we saw in the unboxing video that is an USB to lightning it's no longer USA. So you can use that same cable here. It is a little bigger than the included apple one, but I find that it charges my devices so much better, and I don't know just looks nice. I like that it folds in like that. It's just a good all-around device, but if you do like USB-C, or you're traveling with like your family and your wife needs to charge all of her devices, and you would like to just get one of these like four-prong USB-C chargers.
I know they have USB-C versions out there. This is just a cheaper one. I bought from insignia, it's just for USA. It lets you charge like your iPad, your wife's iPad, your watch, her watch, save some wall adapters for charging phones. These two things awesome awesome awesome.
One of the benefits of having we've already talked about a few of the other accessories that you could use for, like the iPad ecosystem. What I really like we're not talking about the Apple Watch. I've got my I'm pointing to my Apple Watch over there. You can see my sweet watch tan right here, um, I'm not talking about the Apple Watch as much, because what I will say for, like the best accessories AirPods now you don't have to get the air pod pros like I have. The air pod pros are fantastic noise-cancelling very easily lets you listen to whatever you want and not be bothered, especially if you 're in a meeting or something like that, but AirPods.
If you can get the standard ones they're fine, too, these are the best accessory for any Apple device, and I know I am a bit of an apple fanboy. I talk about apple stuff, all the time right, but the AirPods are something special. If you only have an iPad, maybe you have a iPhone. These just go. These go with every Apple device, whether it's MacBook iMac iPad, just get the AirPods get the AirPods.
Maybe we'll make a whole video just about AirPods, because they're, wonderful, and then we got some other miscellaneous things. If you are trying to transfer files because the iPad like the standard iPad, doesn't you only get 32 gigabytes or 128 gigabytes? You don't get that much storage space, so maybe get like a solid state drive or some kind of external drive that you can use to transfer. This is the t7. It is pretty expensive when compared against the iPad, but you could get something much cheaper, like a t5 or any of the competitors for like 75 bucks, you get a 500 gigabyte, solid state drive, that'll, be just as fast as the drive on the iPad. You just transfer your stuff between them use, USB.
You don't necessarily need something as expensive as the t7 again. This is like things you should get, not necessarily this specific thing and then just for fun, because this is Bluetooth now, and you can do actual gaming on the iPad because it does have, I mean heck, it's got the a12 processor inside it. I use this. This is the steel series nimbus controller. I just like this one because it's small, and it uses lightning to charge.
This is not USB. This is lightning, so don't be fooled, but since I already have a lightning charger for the iPad and the iPhone might as well charge my game controller with it. So these are all the accessories that I recommend for the iPad generation 8. But what are some of your favorite accessories leave me a comment below. I would love to know what everybody else uses accessory wise with their own iPads, and if you liked this video, and you're curious you're like Gary, what does all the? What can I do with all this stuff? If I put all this stuff together, what does it get me? Well, you can actually do some pretty fantastic video editing with the iPad.
If you click right here, you'll find a video proving that click, click, click, click, click, click, click thanks for watching.
