Hey guys coming from OB scrubs here and here we have the world's first quad camera smartphone, the galaxy. A series has always been a phone, that's closest to the flagship experience like the Galaxy S series or the note series. The a9 has been launched for $369.99 and given the price point, it is here to give some competition to the 1 plus 60, and while this phone is not going to be as good as a performer from a speed perspective, it is surely here to battle out in photography but more on that later. So that's a galaxy, a 9, guys and I think it looks really, really interesting, especially with that color gradient. That Samsung introduced. I think it's called lemonade green, and they do have another interesting color called the bubblegum pink, which would also be pretty interesting anyway.
Moving on you get the fast charger, so there is a 3800 mill, ampere or battery. You get a type C cable, so you get a type C port, which is good, and you know in your earphones they're, not as bad as the ones that you get with the Galaxy J series, but they're, not the AKG tuned headphones that you get with the Galaxy S series either and let's also open this up. So you get a soft case that you could just slap onto the back and then there is some documentation. You know your Quick Start Guide and all that keep that aside. The case is its transparent, which is good, because then you can see the color that's at the back, it's stretchy, and it's yeah.
The only issue is, it does get dirty fairly quickly, and it doesn't even get cleaned. So you couldn't have to really maintain that and then there's the ejection pin as well and that's pretty much it so there you go guys the galaxy a 9. It comes in three colors, the laminate green, the bubblegum pink and the caviar black. There are two variants: ? one in 6 GB and the other with 8 GB. Both of them have 128 gigs of internal storage, and you can expand that by another 505 gigs of storage using a micro SD card.
Let's talk about the specs real quick. You get Android 8 audio right out of the box, which is a little disappointing, because Android 9 pi is already out and running on devices. It's powered by a 2.2 gigahertz outscore processor. It comes as I said in two variants, with six gigs and 8 gigs of RAM, a 6.3 inch large F, HD Plus display 3800 milliampere or battery types port, fast-charging, re-enabled fixed me home, not the Bigamy assistant, and then you have the quad cameras at the back and a 24 megapixel camera in the front. And of course, we'll talk more about that later in the video.
You also get a fingerprint sensor at the back, and it also comes with face unlock and guys before we move on with the review. It would be really great if you could just hit that like button subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon, so you never miss a video from me. Let's start with the design and starting with the back of the device, which is fascinating and Samsung, has really taken a leap here to come up with this whole new gradient scheme. So really, depending on your preference, you could go for the lemonade green, that you see in front of you or just another one, which is the bubblegum pink and if you just want to play it safe and neutral, you do one experiment. There is a caviar black as well and except for the OnePlus 60 and even the OnePlus six.
There aren't many smartphones that can look that good, but the galaxy a nine it belongs to that price band. It looks good, it feels good, and it's got this really premium, looking feel to it. So I really like it also. We all know that Samsung is not a fan of the notch, and it's not going to go for one. So while the front has a large 6.3 inch display, which is quite immersive and colorful, but it still does not feel as immersive as the OnePlus 60 or even some cheaper options like you know the VIVO v7 Pro, the V 11 flow or the Asus before 5 Z, and this is primarily because Samsung has these huge bezels on the top and the bottom other than that I think it's an awesome display and a perfect resolution, and we'll just talk more about it, a little ahead in the video. Also, if you closely notice the glass at the top, is slightly raised right, so it's basically 2.5 deed laws and I think it gives the phone a perfect, classy sophisticated. Look.
The fingerprint sensor at the back is pretty appropriately placed just like it does with all its new phones these days. So it's really easy for your index finger to reach out. You can register up to four fingerprints, and you know it's got this nice frosty. Look on it. I also love the fact that Samsung still offers a hybrid SIM tray, so you can use two SIM cards and a micro SD card, all three of them simultaneously, and you can increase storage by 512 gigs.
That gets you 640 gigs in total and guys. This is something you're going to have to live with. As long as you do get glass backs, it is going to attract fingerprints as well as dust and as long as you keep your hands dirty or oily you're going to have to keep cleaning it so that it looks good when you have it or anyway, you do get the soft case along with the box, so you could just put that on, and you could just forget about the whole thing moving into the software. So, as I said, it's running, Android, 8 Oreo and the first thing you notice is that it has got always-on display now, I, really like it and I, don't miss the notification LED, which is not there in the galaxy, a 9 and here's. My reason why I think it's the Galaxy Note 9 for quite some time, which does have the LED right, but once I know which apps I have notifications from, and I can just double tap on them to get to them directly.
I, really don't see the need for notification. Led. Moving on to the interface you get Bixby home, not the Bixby boys, persistent that you have with the note 9 or the Galaxy S series, a bunch of preloaded apps, very similar and standard on any other Samsung smartphone that you see putting down the quick settings. You won't see a lot of new stuff here, except maybe the secure folder, which is again not new. It's just something good to have.
You can push all your private content in there. You got you get NFC. Those are talking for always-on display ultra data saving mode and Dolby Atmos, which is super awesome. The only thing is it works on the Galaxy, a 9. If you have your earphones connected only and once you do connect your phones, Habit Atmos as a feature will enable itself go into that mode, and you have to try this for yourself.
There's no way I can do justice if you're watching a know a show or a movie or Netflix, or listen to some song, but Habit Atmos on that mode, and you will feel the difference, and it is not available on. You know the one plus 6 or the 60 and of course there are a bunch of new features that come with the court camera. So the camera software in itself has a couple of upgrades, and we'll talk more about that in the video. Meanwhile, if you do have any questions on, you know the software, the apps installed feel free to comment below, and I'll get back to you and let's now talk about the display. It's a six point.
Three-inch, HD plus Super AMOLED display extremely colorful, deep blacks, high contrast, extremely bright and very power efficient. It's also pretty bright. So it's perfect for outdoor use. Where the know, sunlight is really bright. Colors, look really rich and eye-popping I mean the pictures that you take from your camera would appear much better on this display, rather than on any other phone or a computer.
That is not OLED and the resolution is just really high, which leads to a pretty impressive pixel per inch density, and you can see the clarity, the sharpness on the screen over here. I mean it's just fabulous, so definitely one of the best displays in the market and because it's a nice large colorful display gaming on it is also a lot of fun. And why does gaming I mean even if you're, watching a TV show or a movie on Netflix or a YouTube video I mean? All of that is pretty good on this phone, oh, and for all of you who care about whether Samsung Galaxy, a 9 has brightness or a brightness or not. So it does all a series smartphones too, unlike the Galaxy J and the on series, so you know it will adjust to ambient lighting accordingly and reduce or increase brightness. So moving on to the performance of the galaxy, a 9, and it's running off a snapdragon 660 with 6 gigs of ram the variant that I have, and the real question is: how does it fare against? You know a device in the same range, which is d1 plus 60.
Now I did run a performance benchmark test and obviously, not surprisingly, the 1 plus 60 obviously blew the charts because it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 845, which is the best in the market at the moment and also compared it to some other phones or there are cheaper than the Galaxy a9, which also ranked better in terms of score. But again, performance benchmark scores are not the best judge, so just good indicators. It's also about optimization and the way software works on that hardware. But having said all of that, it does not mean that the galaxy a 9 is low. The Xenon can easily handle and launch all your apps fairly quickly, and it can even run the most intensive apps you throw at it, but yeah it's not going to be as fast and as snappy in launching and closing of apps, as would be a similarly priced phone with bet, better benchmarks like the one plus 60 or the one plus 6.
Then I also went ahead and tried to play some intensive apps, like you know, sorry intensive games like asphalt, 9 and pop G. Something interesting happened when I launched asphalt 9 by default, it did not load the highest graphics settings, it said you know, the most minimal ones was medium or something I had to go into settings into video settings and then push it to high quality, the game restarted, and now I'm playing in high quality. Although there is no issue, so there is no lag, there's no way no drop of frames, it's quite smooth, even in the highest setting, which was not by default on the app but I did play pub G. It gave me medium as the option without the option to select high but yeah the gameplay. As you can see, you know it was pretty smooth I, don't really have any complaints them.
You know the screen is so nice, and it's colorful and I kind of liked, busy, even in medium graphic quality, but sure, if you, you know, you're a hardcore pop G player, and you want to play in high quality sorry you. You cannot get this phone, then also the speaker quality on the galaxy, a 9, it's just about decent I, compared it with the OnePlus 60, which is a lot louder and clearer. It also had a better bass. So if you're, if you're using the galaxy, a 9 in a quiet, place, and you're watching a movie or a YouTube video, it's actually pretty good. But if you know you're on a slightly noisy place, you might want to use your phones and the speakers are not going to cut it and now moving into the camera.
The real big upgrade the first ever smartphone to feature quad cameras, and you know. Let me talk about this a little. So all lenses have their own purpose. The first one, which is a 24 megapixel main lens, helps you get perfect shots in low-light, the 10 megapixel telephoto lens is you know for you to zoom in up to 2 the ultra-wide. You know you've already seen that at the Galaxy a7 takes really wide shots, and then you've got a depth sensor for this portrait.
Shots with nice background blurs and I will be doing a full camera review of the galaxy a 9, but here are some samples just to get you started from your know. From a review point of view. These are some shots. I took in just about medium light. It's not low light.
Also and I think this came out pretty well I mean I, don't see a lot of pix elation. The color is really nice, but when, but it's really dark- and you know the lighting is low- pictures do undergo quite a bit of pix elation, and you know all that super pixel technology that Samsung talks about has not really come true in them. In that now, when lighting is pretty good inside the shots are perfect. However, it does suffer high exposure at some places. Now this is a shot taken in absolute nighttime conditions and while the first one came off pretty well this one sort of looked a little hazy to me, and again it's just a hit or miss and quickly showcasing the ultra-wide view.
So this was a normal picture and then, when I took it in ultra-wide mode, you know it just comes out it shoots, and there is some fish eye effect as you can see, and you'll have to sort of rectify that if you really want good wide-angle photos and that's just an example of a portrait shot, so let's also have a look at the camera interface or the software. Basically, so it's pretty similar to any Samsung phone at the top. You get all the modes. So all the way from slow motion super slow motion, hyperlapse an are emojis scene. Optimizer you get live focus which is your know, the portrait shots panorama and your manual mode as well at the bottom is where all the magic is you get this control, which is basically you know it's allowing you to use your quad cameras so tapping on the first one is going to your know: take you back into ultra white mode, so you get more vigilance, I, think it's a 12?mm lens and then the one on the right is your telephoto zoom.
So that's 2x right. So you get really close to your subject, and you're able to capture more details and that's again back to your normal lens, so you can switch between ultra-wide and telephoto real, quick. The galaxy a9 also feature. Is the scene optimizer wherein you know whenever you point your camera at it'll, identify it from amongst these 19 scenarios, and then it's just going to correct the colors, the brightness, the saturation, the contrast to make it look even better. So it does this all by itself, and you know some smartphone manufacturers call it AI.
Photography Samsung calls it scene optimizer. Now, let's go into settings real, quick and a couple of things that I want to point out. First is video size? It does not let you record 60fps videos, so you can record all the way up to ultra-high definition, 4k videos, but not add 60fps and yeah. Video stabilization. There is no.
Oh, is in this entire phone, which is sort of disheartening because o P 60 does. But there is some sort of video, stabilization and I think that's all governed by software, so it will. It will detect minor wobbles, and it will make it slightly better and there is flaw detection by the way, so you will get notified. If someone is blinking, or you know, there's a blurred photo that you took accidentally and, of course the galaxy a9 does come with the HDR features that you could turn to auto, which is I. Think the best.
Also, your front camera is a 24 megapixel camera. So you can pretty much. You know, expect really high quality very well detailed, sharp front-facing photos as well as full HD videos. So you know your video calling is going to be of great quality as well and coming to the battery. It's got a thirty-eight hundred mill, ampere or battery, which is pretty amazing.
It would easily last you the entire day with moderate to high usage, so I think that's a huge, plus overall I believe that the galaxy, a nine is a pretty decent smartphone in this price band, when not compared to the pros and cons of any other smartphone, so in an absolute sense, I think it's a pretty good smartphone, decent performance large and gorgeous 6.3 inch display quad cameras that offer you versatile photography options that no phone can an exclusive color gradient lineup this time, along with a long, lasting 3,800 William hour battery with fast charging. I think all of these are perfect points for a smartphone. However, the fact that it can't compete with the OnePlus 16 terms of and one per 60 is way ahead when it comes to that it's a little of a letdown, because you know both of them come at the same cost. So for someone who's looking at a powerful Android smartphone, which is superfast and snappy, then I'd recommend the OnePlus 60 and also the Galaxy a9 does not support 60fps video recording in any resolution, which is sort of a letdown for me, because I really look forward to you know, recording very smooth footage. You know, recording moments with family friends and sharing it online, so I think that's really missing in this smartphone.
So yeah, you know there, you have its guys the galaxy a9 if you're looking for a smartphone, that's interesting to look at Philips premium, and it's got a lot of photography. Options to provide I think the Galaxy a9 is a killer choice for that I will not buy it for its performance, but I would definitely buy it for everything else and again, even though its performance is not up to the Wankel 60, it's not really a slow phone. It still is good for pretty much everything that you'd want to do. Just that, it's not going to be all the way up. There.
