I'm Matt Toyota, with tech radar, and today we are unboxing the Samsung Galaxy z, flip uh. It's not the fold which is a different phone, this phone right here, folds in half, so it goes down uh, lengthwise uh, and it's kind of a interesting take. It reminds us of another phone that came out quite recently. The racer from Motorola so comes into this now normal looking box, and we are going to open that up has the z logo, which is what Samsung is going for these days for its z, smartphones or its uh foldable phone. So it's the z line instead of the s line or instead of the note line, and we're going to open this up sim card ejectors good for more than one thing, it says the future changes shape, meet your Galaxy Z, flip. Just like the fold, the Samsung Galaxy fold.
This one has care instructions on it, so you don't want to press too hard on it. You don't want to put it in a pocket with a bunch of keys, lint, even a credit card, and you don't want to get it wet. It's pretty obvious for a lot of cell phones out there, and you don't want to attach an adhesive case on there or have magnets around it. So those are the care instructions. Uh pretty obvious.
Now, after the debacle of uh, the first Samsung Galaxy fold phone, so this flip version comes with the same precautions. It's going to peel back this plastic a little different uh of an unwrapping compared to your modern day phone so that over there and there it is the first flip of this new Samsung Galaxy z, flip. So it's very reflective. I already have a smudge on it, but uh definitely very different as well, so I'm going to power that on so to power it on there's this fingerprint sensor power button. So it's not an Indus in display fingerprint sensor, and it's also not on the back, but it does have a little message on the front, so it says Samsung- and it also says z flip on there.
So after going through all the settings and all the boot up, screens uh, we now have it set up. Let's see what else is in inside this box, we have the charging brick, it goes into the wall and this phone. I know some phones are coming out that don't have um headphones. This one has some AK g headphones, so that is good. A nice long cord there different uh little tips that you can put onto buds uh to customize the size.
They are USB c headphones that you'll notice, because this phone does not have a regular 3.5, millimeter headphone jack, mostly down to the compactness of it fitting in a little more battery, uh doesn't have the biggest battery in the world, but enough to get you through a day um. So and then you have a regular USB, a two USB c cable, so that can be plugged in uh in the same port. So you can't charge and listen to music at the same time, but really a lot of cell phones are going that way so um, that's it for this unboxing, not a lot of uh surprises just remaining. As this thing, that's uh, that is an USB-C to USB-C. In case you want to transfer some old data, that's primarily what that is used for, but that is the z-flip.
It is kind of an introduction to a new phone for a lot of people. It's very pricey, so a lot of people is probably not going to be uh everybody until maybe uh more refined versions come out. There is a little of a seam, but it's easier to see when the screen is not on. So as long as you have the screen on you're going to be distracted, it's gonna kind of blend in, but it does fold down right there and gets basically the half the size of when it's flipped open. So it is definitely a flip style phone for the modern era, and then you can kind of interact with this screen on the front.
It's kind of neat and uh take a selfie, so a little of a angle there. It doesn't show the full selfie but uh there. You go it's kind of a neat thing: dual lens camera on the outside uh for wide photos and regular photos and then a selfie camera on the inside. So that's kind of an interesting thing for Samsung to go with, but uh we'll see what kind of flip phones happen on tech radar. Our best foldable phones guide has newly been updated, and you can check it out so keep it locked to techradar.
com, I'm Matt skater. If you have any questions about this phone or any other phones as we continue to test them out, uh, I'm at Matt, wider on Twitter, Instagram and all those social platforms, so uh yeah going to be enjoying this one, and it's a dynamic, mirror purple color, it's very, very cool, very stylish, very chic version of Samsung's take on a smartphone.
