Kate Koch here and I'm going hands-on with the all-new Samsung Galaxy watch for lineup. There are two smartwatches coming out. There is the Samsung Galaxy watch, 4, which is kind of a fitness focus, evolution of the Samsung Galaxy watch, active 2, and then there is the Samsung Galaxy watch, 4 classic, which looks a little like the Samsung Galaxy watch 3 from last year. Both watches are running the new Wear OS software plus they have an all new 3 in 1 health sensor, which notably includes body composition analysis through a BIA sensor. What else do you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy watch for lineup? Let's go take a closer look meet the galaxy watch, 4 and galaxy watch 4 classic these pair of smartwatches are the same inside from the new wear, OS software and Samsung's one UI skin to a three in one health sensor and endlessly fun watch face designs, but, as you can see on the outside, they look a little different. Think of the classic line which features luxurious materials.
You know leather straps and the physical rotating bezel sort of like the apple watches edition line except the galaxy watch.4 classic is way more affordable than the Apple Watch edition, starting at just 349.99. The standard galaxy watch 4, meanwhile starts at just 249.99 in my hands-on time, with both versions I kind of favored the baseline model, which is more like Samsung's galaxy, watch active models of the past. This slim profile makes for an extremely comfortable wear plus in certain colors. This is still a smartwatch. I'd wear from the gym to dinner but, as we know, looks aren't everything.
So, let's talk about my initial impressions of Wear OS on the galaxy watch 4. This is the first smartwatch to market with what google is calling Wear OS 3. , an evolution of what's been not so impressive, smartwatch software to be nice about it, though I will say it looks and feels a lot like the ti zen. We know from previous galaxy watches, but the new app menus and the inclusion of google services are definitely promising. I didn't experience any hiccups in navigation or with finding certain settings either.
I also had a pretty smooth experience: testing out the galaxy watch, 4's headlining health feature body, composition, analysis using a bioelectrical, impedance analysis or BIA more familiarly. This new galaxy watch can read things like your body, fat percent, skeletal muscle and basal metabolic weight. I'd like to see how the smartwatches metrics compare to a smart scales reading since smartwatches kind of normalize the ability to test your body's makeup without needing to go see a doctor in an office with professional equipment. There are other features. I still need to test too, like enhanced sleep, tracking, thanks to blood oxygen being measured once a minute on the galaxy watch 4 compared to once every 30 minutes on the galaxy watch 3.
I also need to see about battery life estimates. Samsung says you'll get 40 hours, but of course that depends on which features you're using like GPS or LTE calling or an always on display on the galaxy watch.3 we found the battery could only last just a day with all these settings. However, the galaxy watch 4 has an all new processor that could totally improve efficiency. What do you think is the most exciting part about the new Samsung Galaxy watch, 4?
