Okay, so I have been using the all-new Samsung Galaxy, s21 long enough to be able to bring to you a full, comprehensive review of this baby right here. Let's talk about it as always: let's go ahead and start off with design and, as you can see here at first glance, I went for the phantom gray finish for this phone here. It's just so beautiful. It has this kind of frosted carbon metalized, look to it, and it looks really awesome. Furthermore, it does have an aluminum frame, although the back of it is made of polycarbonate or glass stick or whatever you want to call it, but the bottom line is that it really feels premium. Furthermore, it doesn't really feel, like you know your typical plastic.
Now, as far as this camera module goes, I actually was not a fan of it, which, by the way, seems to be made out of metal, but I wasn't a fan of it when it was first announced now, I've grown to really like it, and if you are familiar with the galaxy s21 ultra, then you would notice that this one is kind of the same thing except it is much more conservative in terms of looks and size, and it does sit pretty neat on this phone here on the front here, you are looking at a 6.2 inch completely flat display, so people who prefer flat displays would actually just fall in love with this guy. Here, it's very flat. Overall, it's a pretty sleek looking device. It's compact, it's pretty sturdy! It's very well-built! You know when you hold it in your hands. You know you can tell it's a very well-built device.
Now, let's go ahead and talk specs and also performance, but before we do so, I want to take this second here to welcome all of you who just came to the channel for the first time here. If you do like the content so far, I appreciate that. Please do me a favor and hit both the like and the subscribe button. There that's one of the best ways to really support this channel. I truly appreciate that now, let's go ahead and talk specs and performance, and with that said, I want to go ahead and start off with the display, because it's been kind of downgraded it's no longer, or should I say it's not quite HD as the previous version of the same model phone.
This one is a full HD plus AMOLED display with 2400 by 1080 for the resolution, and it's pretty pixel dense at 421 PPI. So picture quality is fantastic. You know very sharp images, great color contrast, plus you have that hertz adaptive refresh rate on this phone. It just makes everything flow so smoothly. You may already be familiar with the high.
You know how high refresh rate works. It works wonders on this phone now, here's the meat of it all the chipset and performance you're. Looking at the base storage of this particular model of 128 gigs, and that is coupled with eight gigs of ram, it is running the current absolute best chipset on android, which is indeed the Qualcomm snapdragon 888 and as the 5g tag to the name would suggest it does have that 5g technology integrated in its superfast. You know things are just so freaking snappy, you know going back and forth in between apps. You know, opening and closing apps is like instantaneous.
It's really improved as far as performance goes, it has been improved by a lot. A very, very powerful chipset loaded into this phone and gaming performance is also excellent, and you will certainly enjoy playing games or gaming on here. It's also loaded with android 11, and you have the latest version of one UI sitting on top of that, and that is one UI 3.1, that's the version 3.1, and I really do like the additions that come tagged with this user interface, along with the fact that you can truly customize. Quite a few things on here now. As far as battery goes, it has a 4 000 William hour battery in here, and it's fast charge capable, and it does offer very good battery life.
I've been impressed, you know I'm looking at roughly seven hours of on-screen time so finishing the day, with a good 20 of battery life left. Now that is going to be different. You know it's going to differ with your type of usage right, so it's I always say it's subjective, which it so depends on how you use it, you may see more, you may see less, but either way it's a very impressive battery, especially when you take into account the fact that you have that 120hz refresh rate. But the good thing is its adaptive right. So the chipset, you know the computer and this phone is able to determine when to use it and when and when not to use it, and it does that very efficiently.
Now the camera here can shoot up to 8k, and you are looking at a 12 megapixel wide 12 megapixel ultra-wide and a 64 megapixel telephoto camera. The main camera does a fantastic job. You know taking pictures' portrait mode. Are you know the infamous? I want to call that the infamous portrait mode is amazing here great level of details, so post-processing is still kind of on overdrive. Doing some great stuff here.
Recording video with this camera is also very good. I actually made kind of a vlog style, video with it, and it performed pretty well. Selfies are very impressive, to say the least great amount of details also, and I've really done a good amount of testing for both the front and the rear camera here now. Two of the features that I really like about this camera is the fact that you can be. You know, shooting a video got using that selfie camera and then, while shooting the video you know transition into using the main camera and then back to the know front facing camera without any stutter right.
It's so cool you know, you'd be filming, and then you change, maybe showing something you just switch over to the main camera and then switch back to the front-facing camera. You also have that mode where you can shoot both. You know the front. Furthermore, you know using the front camera so kind of selfie and also the main camera at the same time, so show two things in two different settings: those are really, really cool modes, and this is still with the addition of that same promo that you have here. It's an overall, very good camera.
Now there are a few things that I quickly want to highlight since we're not going to go too deep into details with them, but they're definitely worth mentioning starting wit hip rating. It is IP rated 6 8, and by that obviously I mean that it's water resistant, the ultrasonic in display fingerprint sensor, is blazing fast man. I love it, and you also do have faced unlock on here, which again is faster than what I've seen in the past from Samsung. It is, as I mentioned earlier, 5g capable. So if you are looking to buy this thing so that you can hold on to it, even when you know 5g becomes a lot more popular.
You still be good, because you know you have. I mean granted most new phones come out with that 5g support, but just worth mentioning, you also have access to. You know the infamous Samsung decks, not a lot of people use it for those who use it. It is really a crucial feature to have, so you can pretty much connect this phone to a monitor, and you'll be able to use that as kind of like a little computer setup. You also do have wireless and reverse wireless charging here now.
I don't personally use it that much, but it's there. If you need that now, some not so great things about the starting with the of course, the downgrade from quad HD for that display to you know full HD, plus it's its still a nice display. It looks perfect, but it's downgraded right and as if that wasn't enough, I really do not like the fact that Samsung got rid of the option to expand that internal storage right. So you used to have that option where you could use. You know a SD card to expand that storage.
But now, if you buy a s21 base model, you get 128 gigs. That's pretty much all you get. You can't expand that storage anymore, not only that you don't get a charger in the box anymore, so thank you apple. So obviously you know Samsung is trying to follow the footsteps of some companies. So now, when you buy this phone, you don't have to charge it for it.
You have to go, buy that separately also, and that seems to be the trend at this point, because you also have other manufacturers trying to do the same thing. Overall, here's my take now, I'm happy that Samsung brought down the price. You know on this phone. That's still a premium price, it's a premium phone right, so you can't really, you know deny that, but I don't like some of the compromises that they made. You know, notably the same of the ones that I just mentioned anywhere from removing the charger to you know the downgrade of the screen, because, if you think about I mean some people are going to say well, you know they brought it down because people who used to use 120, hertz refresh rate, you know you had to bring it down to just full HD or full HD plus in order to use the 120 hertz refresh rate, but here's the kicker, though, on the s21 ultra, you can use that 120 hertz, refresh rate and quad HD, so yeah, something to think about right, and you know it doesn't change the fact that this is still a beast of a phone.
It's a good phone. It's an it's actually, a very, very it's a very good phone right now, if you already own like a Fe or a Samsung s20, I don't know that I would necessarily recommend for you to pick this up. You know because those would definitely get some. You know the software upgrades that this one comes pre-loaded with, but you know it's all up to you anyways my take is that if you were coming from a couple generations ago, you know as far as phone you know phones go. So if you have a phone, that's a little older, then this is a nice pickup, but if you have something from last year, not necessarily but that's just my take anyways.
I hope this was informative. Hope you enjoyed this video and please, of course, don't forget to like comment subscribe as always I'm going to catch you in the comments section like I always do that I say always twice, and I'm also going to catch you. The next video and stay safe out there.
