Since 2014, the a-series have been one of Samsung's the most important products alongside their s and the note smartphones, one of the best phones of the series is the a8 2018. Today we have a lot of ace smartphones to choose, but in 2018 we only had the a8 and the a8 plus. So is the a8 worth in 2021, or should you consider the new a smartphone instead of it? Let's find out the Samsung Galaxy? A8 is made of glass and aluminum. Therefore, it has a more premium, build quality than most of the phones they released in 2020 or even in 2021. Even three years later, the a8 still looks and feels very premium and during my usage it held up very well because of its small size. I use this phone as a backup device from time to time, and I only have some small scratches.
The a8 is the last phone of the series to be ip68 water and dust resistant. The Samsung Galaxy a8 has a 5.6 inch, full HD super AMOLED display compared to 2021 standards on the front. The a8 looks outdated because of the bigger forehead and chin. That aside, the quality of the display is still very good. It is sharp and it has vibrant colors.
It is perfect for people who, like small smartphones, it is only a 60hz panel, but that's to be expected from an old mid-range device. The a8 came with android 7 out of the box, and the software experience wasn't that good. It became a lot better with one UI, but sadly, android 9 is the last update of this device. The galaxy a8 is powered by the Enos 7885 chipsets. At its first year it was a decent, mid-range chipset, but now it does feel its age.
It is still good for everyday tasks like calling or social media when playing games. However, it does get very warm, and it lags. Sometimes. It comes with 32 gigabytes of base storage paired with 4 gigabytes of ram storage is expandable with a micro SD card. The galaxy a8 has a single 16, megapixel rear camera image.
Quality in daylight is good, with vivid colors and lots of details. Low light images are just what you'd expect from an old mid-range device. It doesn't even have a night mode, so the results aren't that good video quality is also very weak. It can only shoot videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, and it doesn't even have an optical image. Stabilization on the front.
It is equipped with dual cameras. Pictures taken with the main 16 megapixel lens are sharp and have good colors. The second 8 megapixel camera is just slightly wider, and I think it is just a waste of space when it comes to low light. Both cameras fail to impress pictures, lack details and have a lot of noise. Take a look at these samples.
I've taken recently with the a8 2018, I wanna dance do museum. The galaxy a8 has only a mono speaker, just like every Samsung mid-ranger, the speaker on the a8 is located on the side near the power button. Sound quality from this speaker is good, but not great. There are many mono speakers, phones that offer you better audio. The a8 has a headphone jack, which is a nice bonus.
The galaxy a8 has a small 3 000 million per battery, even though I always used it as a backup phone. It barely got me through a day only a couple of times. It does lose a lot of power, even in standby mode. Furthermore, it does support fast charging at 15 watts, but it misses wireless charging. The a8 2018 has a fast and reliable fingerprint sensor on the back.
It is also ip68 water and dust resistant and always on display is also present like mentioned earlier. It misses wireless charging, but, to be honest, it isn't a big deal because no Samsung midrange has this feature. So what are my final thoughts for this device? Well, the a8 is still a good and compact device, but you shouldn't buy it. There are a lot of great things on this phone, but for its price you can find much better phones like the flagship, Galaxy S8. If you want a new compact, Samsung midrange, you should check the a41 instead, let me know in the comment section below: if you want this device and if yes, are you still happy with it or are you planning to upgrade soon? If you did enjoy this video a thumbs up would be appreciated.
