What's going on guys, my name is Wade with tech daily and in this video we'll be doing a camera comparison test between Samsung's, two newest to a series: phones, the 51 and the 71. Now both of these devices received some major camera upgrades over their predecessors, so you'll certainly see a difference if you decide to upgrade to these two new phones over last year's eight series. But what you might also find surprising is that, while on paper, both of these phones have pretty similar camera hardware, the photo and video results, you get very pretty significantly between these two phones and that's something I'm going to go over in this video. If you're interested in doing some comparison shopping of your own- or maybe you want to pick one of these phones up yourself- I'll have some links down below in the video description to where you can buy. These phones at their cheapest prices so be sure to check down there if you're interested, and before we get into the actual picture and video samples I do want to go over some hardware and specs with these two phones. So you can understand what we're working with and why these two devices produce such different results around back.
Both of these phones Rock that new square camera module that houses four different lenses. Three out of the four lenses are exactly the same as far as I'm aware across both phones, the depth sensor for taking live, focus, shots a 12, megapixel ultra-wide shooter and the brand new 5 megapixel macro lens for super close-up. Photography, like I, said as far as I know. The hardware for these lenses on both phones is exactly the same. The difference is in the main lens: the 851 pax, a 48 megapixel F, 2.0 shooter, while the 71 bumps things up to a 64, megapixel, F 1.8 lens on paper. The 71 technically has the better hardware, and that usually means you're going to get better sharper more well-balanced images.
It is fair to assume that, and you'll see that when we get into the side-by-side comparisons, but what you'll also come to find is that not only are pictures and video vastly different from the different main lenses on each phone. The image and video results are also different across the other lenses that are supposedly exactly the same hardware, wide-angle macro and live focus. Shots vary between these two phones, even though supposedly the camera specs are the same and I believe. The reason those results differ too, is because of the varying internal components. The power of these two phones, the 51 has an X Enos 96 11 chips, while the 71 has a more powerful Snapdragon, 730, there's more RAM in the 71 and a better GPU as well.
The 71 is better powered from top to bottom and, in my opinion, the more powerful specs allow for better image processing, which ultimately leads to a better result from the same lenses as what's on the 51. Now, to be honest, I wasn't expecting a huge difference at first, but as they continued to take more and more picture samples, the difference in nearly every shooting condition was pretty obvious and by the way, going beyond the hardware on the software side of things, everything you get in the camera. App with these two phones is exactly the same: ? they're, the same shooting modes, the same features the same settings, the same everything. So keep that in mind. You don't miss out on anything by going with the a51, and you don't gain anything by getting the 71 at least specifically on the software side.
So I'm going to go over some of my thoughts on a couple of these pictures, and then I'll play through a bunch more and let you guys analyze them for yourself, and maybe you can. Let me know what you liked best with this first one here it was shot using the live focus mode which incorporates the depth sensor, camera, which is the same across both phones, I, think right away. The first big difference is in the detail: the flowers on the arm and around the neck area look sharper in the 71s image, there's also a bit of texture on the face and the 71 photo that isn't in the 51. All things considered, though, I think both phones did a great job with the foreground and background separation, along with creating a solid and natural border around the subject, and I'd be happy with either of these images in general. In this particular case, the difference isn't so drastic.
Now, with this comparison, on the other hand, we certainly start to see more drastic differences. This was shot with the main lens, so keep in mind. The lenses used for this shot are different between the two phones and that's why we see almost entirely different images. Ba 51, which looks fairly blown out in comparison and the flower, loses a lot of detail. The real-world lighting conditions were closer to what we see with the 71 shot ?, so the phone did a good job capturing the scene, as I saw it and across a lot of the main camera pictures.
I found those two things to be pretty consistent: a lack of detail from the 51 and more accurate exposure from the 71 when we move outside again using the standard lens. The first thing, I notice here is actually the color in the 71 I think it looks way more pleasing the 51 image looks a little dull in comparison, especially with the water and the trees, and, once again, there's some detail lost mainly on those trees and bushes up front with the fifty-one. One of the most drastic differences between the two phones is often how they capture wide-angle shots. So you can see here with the regular lens first that everything looks pretty close. The color and exposure vary a bit, but even the detail is pretty consistent in both shots in this case, but when we head over to the wide-angle lens, the 51 I think really misses the mark in comparison.
I'm not really sure, what's happening here, but the shadows become so exaggerated. Details are gone and the difference between the two pictures is really significant, and this was a pretty common theme, specifically with that wide-angle camera. The 51 tended to go so dark with the shadows becoming almost like dark spots in the image. I can't really explain it. Unfortunately- and this is gonna sound like a bad pun, but it's sort of true wide-angle pictures between the 51 and a 71 are like night and day when the lights do go out, and we start to use night mode.
This is actually where things sort of get mixed up a bit. Both phones do pretty well in the dark, but half the time the 51 will seemingly overexpose and over brighten the nighttime scene. Well, the other half the time. It's the 71 going a bit too bright in general, though I can still appreciate the decent results you do get when shooting in night mode. With these two devices, it's just a little weird how consistently inconsistent the results are.
One last thing before I leave you to enjoy some more pictures. The front-facing cameras on these two phones are supposedly the same ? but I. Don't know that I'm convinced by that first off the camera cut out our different sizes. The a71 appears to have either a larger cutout, with more bezels or more space for the lens or a larger lens entirely. But the spec sheet says they're supposed to be the same: I don't really get it and the results are once again crazy, different too, but not in the way.
You'd expect I. Think I, like selfies from the 51 over the 71. The color is more natural. The lighting and exposure look better, and the detail is close. I think the 71 can at least claim that, but I don't know I'm sort of stumped with the front cameras you guys will have to.
Let me know what you think so: I'm just going to go ahead and let a bunch of pictures play through here enjoy them. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and I'll meet you back up at the end of this video for my final thoughts. So all in all, after a couple of days of shooting with these phones, I have to say that first and foremost, Samsung did an awesome job with the cameras. These are mid-range, phones, keep that in mind, and they shoot great pictures and video and either way you go. You are getting a great camera setup, I.
Think, overall, though, the difference with the 71 is significant enough to justify spending a little more. If pictures and videos are important to you and I was surprised to see just how different these two phones ended up being. But what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments down below I'd love to know your thoughts. Hopefully you guys enjoyed this video be sure to follow tech daily on Twitter and subscribe to detect daily YouTube channel.
