What's going on everyone, this is Kevin here, and this is the Samsung Galaxy a 31 and in this video we're going to be discussing the five best and five worst things about the phone. So here are the five best in five worst things about the Samsung Galaxy, a 31, so starting off with number one is the display. This phone has an awesome-looking display. You haven't noticed so far. The display itself is six point: four inches. It's Super AMOLED we're getting a 1080p resolution, we're getting a PPI of 411, we're getting a 20 by 9 aspect, ratio, so kind of taller and narrower design here, and we're getting an 84.9% screen to body ratio. So, if you're not aware, amyloid is a better display technology than LCD, which we find with other phones, such as the Moto G stylus, for example, and the benefit with amyloid is that it's more power efficient, you're, getting better colors with it, and you're getting better viewing angles.
Now, just like the galaxy, a 51 and galaxy a 71. Those devices both have AMOLED displays as well, and look perfect. So in general, I'm really happy with the display on this phone. It's great for video consumption, social media, any sort of content. Consumption really is great.
My second favorite thing about the Samsung Galaxy, a 31 is the devices design, so this phone is very well-designed in the sense that it looks really nice. It is very practical I like that. We're getting the headphone jack on the bottom I like that. The buttons on the side are easily accessible, but they're not too low either. So you can hold the device without accidentally pressing on one of those buttons I like how minimalist the back of the device is, and it reminds me a lot of Samsung's.
Various flagships like the s20 ultra, for example, so I feel, like Samsung's design department, did an excellent job. Making this budget device look they're e premium. My third favorite thing about the Samsung Galaxy a 71 is the performance so with the device we're getting four gigabytes of RAM in the MediaTek hello p65 processor, now I know that MediaTek might not have the best reputation ever, but that's due to some other previous processors, but there Hello line of processors are actually perfect. Prior to this phone, I used the Hello P 60 in a different device. I also use the Hello P 70, and this is actually my first time using a foam with the Hello P 65, but I, really like it, and I'll, show you the an tutu benchmark score that I got, and you can see here.
I got an overall score of 149 434. So with that type of score, and also based off of my actual usage and experience with the phone I think it's going to satisfy the majority of people out there performance wise now, of course, if you are looking for one of the fastest phones out there, then going for the edge 20 ultra is probably a better choice for you, but you're going to be spending over $1,100 more. If you choose to go that route so considering that this phone is around 250 dollars, you're getting really solid performance here and overall I'm really happy with the processor and amount of RAM that we do get moving on to my fourth favorite thing about the phone, and that is the battery. So with the device we're getting a very beefy battery at 5,000 William hours, that's really incredible! That's a bigger battery than what we're getting with the s20 ultra, the 71, the 51. All of those devices have a smaller battery than this one.
So that's really cool and if you're someone that currently has a phone, that's giving you bad battery life, and you're thinking of upgrading to something that gives you good battery life, then the 31 might be the phone for you and for my fifth favorite thing about the device and don't get me wrong. There are many other things I like about it too. These are my top five. You know my fifth favorite thing about the phone. Is the storage on here, so we're getting 128 gigabytes of internal storage, which is really impressive for a device in this price range now I think it's really cool to see and really important to that.
These budget phones are getting more and more internal storage, because apps are getting bigger and bigger about five years ago you could survive. You could live with 32 gigs of storage pretty comfortably, but since then apps have doubled quadrupled in size. You know the big social media apps like Facebook Snapchat, Instagram they're, all getting larger than ever in file size, and because of that you need more internal storage. So that's one of the great benefits of going this route with the a31 is that you do get 128 gigs of storage, now I believe there's also a 64 gigabyte variant that is gonna, be available, I'm, not sure about that. But this is the 128 gig model, and it's been serving me very well with the large amount of storage that it does have now.128 gigs is not enough for you. You can always put a micros card in the phone, but I'm sure you agree that nothing is better than the old-fashioned internal storage.
Let's now talk about my five least favorite things about the Samsung Galaxy, a 31. The first thing that I'm, not a huge fan of, is the large bottom bezel on the phone. So you can see here it is at the bottom now. I am glad, though, that we at least get a 20 by 9 aspect ratio and having that aspect ratio combined with a little of a larger bottom bezel really does give us a very tall phone, but I wish that this bottom bezel was smaller, so the device itself would be smaller, or maybe they could have made the display even longer, maybe at 21 by 9. That would have been pretty sweet too, but, as things stand right now, we do have a pretty large bottom bezel here on the phone and that's kind of different from what we've seen with other phones like the s20 ultra, for example, as this device is a very small bottom bezel or other 20/20 a-series phones ?, like the 71, because you can see comparing it here.
The bottom bezel on the 31 certainly is a lot larger than the 71. Moving on to my second-worst thing about the Samsung Galaxy, a 31, and that is the macro camera. It's pretty much useless, and let me explain why, so I'm going to take a photo of the top of this microphone right here, and I'm going to take the photo with the macro camera, so I just have to get close up here. Okay took the photo. Now this photo does look good.
You know it does get nice and close. It looks nice and crisp and clear. So that's fine and all, but if I take the same photo with the standard camera but keep in mind, you do have to take it from a little of a further distance away. You could easily zoom in here, and you literally get the same effect. So really.
The only reason why Samsung has included the macro camera is so that they can advertise this phone as having a quad camera setup. But beyond that the macro camera doesn't really give you anything. You can't already achieve with the 48 megapixel main camera now I understand it's a little further zoomed out, but you're welcome to crop in. If you wanted to your know, you can do whatever you want to get closer, so I just don't see the macro camera as really offering any sort of major benefit with the phone. My third least favorite thing about the device is that there is no wireless charging now I know that typically wireless charging is reserved for the more higher-end smartphones, but we've seen wireless charging with less expensive devices such as the bold and one, for example, and many others too.
So there really isn't any excuse. The Samsung left wireless charging out of the a31. Besides the fact that maybe they want to save a little of money, but they also wanted to reserve certain features like that for their more premium. Phones, like the S series. Now, if you don't care about wireless charging, then I guess this really isn't relevant to you.
But I know that at least for me, I like to occasionally use wireless charging and when I actually do end up using it. It is a nice feature to have my fourth least favorite thing about the Samsung Galaxy. A 31 is that the phone does not feature NFC now. This is very surprising and eye-opening, considering that Samsung really has been pushing Samsung pay on the various devices that work with the service, and you'd think that if they really wanted Samsung pay to catch on, they would put NFC in every single one of their phones, because without NFC you can't use Samsung pay nowadays. Really, if you want to be successful as a tech company, you need to focus more on software and services.
In addition to hardware, of course, hardware is important, but many of the profits nowadays actually come out of software and services, so I feel, like Samsung, is really missing out on the big opportunity to put Samsung pay in some of their lower end phones and finally, for number five: it's the build of the phone. Now the build is solid. Here, don't get me wrong, but on the other hand the device does feature in all plastic build -. The display this band running around the sides of the device is plastic. The material on the back of the phone is also plastic.
Now, that is understandable, but there are other devices out there like the LG style five that do feature metal on the sides of the phone, so I wish that we had that type of build here with the 31 I think it would have made the phone feel more premium now. It's certainly not a deal. Breaker and I know that many people will probably put this phone in a case anyway. So if you are one of those people, then for the most part, the bill doesn't really impact you, but I think that Samsung might have missed out on an opportunity to really make this device feel premium, but I hope you enjoyed this video about the Samsung Galaxy 831, five best and five worst things. Overall, this is a fantastic device.
I certainly don't have a problem with it and I. Certainly don't want you to think that I do in those five least favorite things about the phone. Certainly we're a bit nitpicking, as this is a fantastic phone overall, but I wanted to point those things out to you so that you at least know what you're getting into you. If you do decide to buy the phone now again, you want to see the most up-to-date pricing for the phone. Take a look at the link in the video description also give this video a thumbs up sub to the channel and I will see you in the next video.
