Both the devices look identical, literally identical, because I mean they are identical. The major difference or the only difference between both these devices is in camera and charging support. So the regular Redmi Note 9 for supports 18 watt of fast charging, but Redmi Note.9 Pro max supports 33 watt of charging, and I tried the 33 watt charger on the reading.
