Hey PCWorld fans, Adam here. And I just done reviewing the Razer Phone 2 - which you can read over at PCWorld. com. But in this video I want to compare it to the Razer Phone 1 and see just how much of an upgrade is it. So we can get this right out of the way at the beginning - in almost every way the Razer Phone 2 has upgrades compared to the Razer Phone 1. It has better internals, a better CPU, a better cooling system, the screen is brighter and more vibrant.
I was able to actually read things outside which is nice. And a bunch of other small little improvements like the buttons are more tactile, the speakers get louder, and it comes with water resistance which is a huge bonus. But if you've read my review there is one area that is a little bit of a sticking point for me better the new phone and the old phone - and that is the design material. So on the first phone it featured obviously the nice brushed aluminum back that really fit in well with Razer's design aesthetic. Not only that, I am a huge fan of more rugged and durable smartphones - and this thing just feels like a tank in my hand.
I never worried too much about it getting scratched or broken and I really appreciated that. And on the new one we have this glass back, which obviously is a fingerprint magnet, it's really slick when you put it on a like on a couch, and honestly it's a little more uncomfortable to hold it. It kind of has a little bit of an edge to it now. I'm not a huge fan of glass back to begin with and I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I still like phones that offer an option other than just pure glass. But switching to a glass back did bring some improvements as well - like wireless charging.
Even though I don't really use that feature that much so it's kinda lost to me. But there is one thing that glass back allows thats not on the first one and that is that nifty RGB logo. Now when you have an RGBlogo on a phone you are really making a statement here and I kinda like it. I think it's a fun thing to have on your phone and especially something that not all phones have, so its very much a differentiating factor if you are looking for something that is more unique. So if you still have the Razer Phone 1 I'd be hard pressed to want to upgrade to the 2.
I really do like the the design and the build quality of this first one. But if you have neither and you want the highest end experience it's hard to pass up the second one - though there are some really good deals on the first one if that's really your jam. Either way, these are the top 2 gaming smartphones even though this one is running on old hardware it's still amazing. And in my opinion you can't go wrong with the Razer Phone 2 if you are looking for a gaming smartphone. Anyway, like I said, read the full review on PCWorld.
