Razer Phone 2: An Emulation Beast!

Hey guys, what's going on this, is Andrew here today, and I'm going to be reviewing the racer phone 2 for how it does an emulation. So this phone features a 1440p 120hz display, which is very nice and smooth on the mobile device, and it also has a snapdragon 845 processors, which is pretty damn powerful for a phone that I got for this price. I got it for 300 on Black Friday last year. It was retailing for 400 before that sale and after a while, it eventually just left all store shelves, because I'm pretty sure racer just continued it pretty fast, didn't sell very well because not everybody's looking for a gaming phone, how I wasn't really looking for a gaming phone. When I got this, I just want a phone that I knew performed well, because I had a phone that I was using my primary phone and I wanted a secondary phone just in case the other one broke down, also to kind of let all the heavy hitting be done on this phone. So I don't destroy the other phone have to upgrade after two years.

So I did end up upgrading the other phone later on to the iPhone SC, but I find android a much better interface to get emulators on, despite the extra power that's on the iPhone SC. So let's talk about this a little more three layers. I'm going to be testing today are the Ciara emulator, which is the 3ds emulator, the dolphin emulator, which is the game cube slash, Wii emulator, the drastic emulator, which was the DS emulator, my boy, which is a Game Boy's advanced, Game Boy, color, slash regular game boy. I'm really only going to be testing GBA games on it, because that's the one that makes sense because pretty much any phone out there can run GBA and anything below too. But it's just good to know that it can run it.

I'm also going to be testing red ream, the free version of the dream cast emulator super 64, plus also the free version of the Nintendo 64 emulators, and that's all the emulators I'm going to be testing today, so I'm just going to be showing how they perform. I'm going to be showing the gameplay of me playing it just to show that I'm not being my reviews. This phone definitely isn't perfect, but it is very powerful for the price that I got it for and can't wait to show it off. Okay, so the first game I'm going to be testing today is Super Mario world for the GBA. So I forgot the exact name in this game.

They gave it a weird title: it was like Super Mario advance 2, I think Super Mario world, so they could have just named the Super Mario world. But that's beside the point. As I said before, you know, uh GBA games can run on virtually any android device. At this point, I've had it running on my fire hd7, which pretty much is equivalent to a 2012 or 2011 nexus tablet. So you very much know right away that it's pretty easy to run these games.

You know, as you can tell right now, I'm not getting any hiccups at all in this game, which should be expected if you are getting any hiccups on games like this. You know maybe it's time to get a newer device, but as seen here, it is very easy to emulate and throughout this video guys, I'm going to be using my Xbox One S controller as my game pad, so I don't have to show myself touching the screen uh, it's very nice to use a game pad rather than an actual touchscreen, because touchscreen controls suck. I hate them all my life, all my heart. You know I'm going to be using it throughout the whole video, I'm not going to be changing game pads, it's going to be the same one, I'm going to be using so without further ado. Let's go to the next game, so my favorite thing about this emulator is probably the fast-forward option because in most GBA games I play RPGs and I end up spamming the button so many times just because you know I want to get past the dialogue.

You can get past the dialogue right away in this, and if you see right now, I'm literally going to get to uh the part where I get my Pok?mon in probably like a minute. The only thing that's a little hard about getting to it in a minute is probably the fact that it's inputs at this speed are really annoying, because you do one slight click. It's like you move like three footsteps at the speed, but it's very good for fast dialogue and for getting straight to the point and just replaying a game shiny hunting. Anything in that regard. I love playing Pok?mon on this emulator.

Just for that reason just so, I can fast-forward. I'm probably going to end up beating the rest of the series uh pretty fast, I'm considering doing a stream at some point of beating Pok?mon emerald, ruby and sapphire in one sitting with the speed hack that they have. So. As you see, it literally took me, probably yeah, literally a minute to get to this part where I picked my Pok?mon, so this battle was done in less than 10 seconds. That just goes to show I love using the emulator in this regard.

So, as you see it performs perfectly on this phone, it should perform very well on any android phone you use, but just goes to show it's nice and speedy and perfect. So let's go to the next emulator alright. So today I'm going to be testing sonic rush adventure for the Nintendo DS on the DS emulator. So I'm using this game because it utilizes both screen functionality and I feel like the emulator. Does it really well, because what you have is basically the two screens are colliding pretty.

Similarly, so it looks as if you're really playing it on one screen rather than having to look between the two. I honestly like it better on here than I do playing on a standard, Nintendo DS, and it runs really, really well, I don't see any problems, I'm not having any problems with performance whatsoever, I'm not feeling any performance dips, I'm not hearing the audio cut in and out like it has on previous emulators that I've used. So I think that just makes this a perfect test, and you know this is the perfect game I think, to use to test it. So without further ado, I'm going to be testing the next game on the simulator. So I figured the next game to text.

To test would be a Pok?mon game that a lot of people consider the best of all time and other people consider it their favorite of all time. A lot of people also consider their favorite generation of Pok?mon. So I figured why not test it just to show how it would run on this, since most people would want to play this version over really any other version. I tested this instead of Pok?mon black. Just because of that reason I know Pok?mon black uh has better graphics and therefore is more demanding, but you know I figured doing this.

One would be a good shot so battling its nice and smooth gameplay run. Like I said before, you know with the GBA. It was very easy for GBA games to run on a lot of hardware, but for some time uh Nintendo DS, games, weren't running the best on hardware, but it's good to see that it runs flawlessly on this phone. I'm pretty sure it runs flawlessly on my motor as well, but just goes to show the gameplay. Is nice and smooth you're not seeing any frame dips uh it's running at full speed, as you would expect.

So, let's try to jump into a 3d game on here, since, in the beginning of the DS you know there was a lot more 3d games that was taking advantage of the system's power, what better game to test than Super Mario 64 DS for a 3d game to test on the DS. So this is the perfect game honestly to test, because it is you know, one of the games that took advantage of the power just to you know show some 3d graphics on the DS, and this is a just good one to show off all together, just because of the power takes advantage of. So I'm running at full speed right now, I'm not having any issues whatsoever. Simply right now, just you know, throwing some guineas around um Joshi is pretty slow. I, like Mario, better I've honestly, never played this version ever, and it feels pretty good with the joystick honestly, because I hated playing this game uh on the deep trying to play this game on the d-pad, and I can't even imagine playing this on a d-pad.

It really just needs to its one of those games that needs a joystick, but, as you can see, I'm running at full speed. You know encountering zero issues, and I am garbage at this game by the way. So I don't expect any good gameplay, I'm no Super Mario 64 speed runner. I haven't even beaten Super Mario 64 itself uh, but just like the other game, I prefer uh just like any other game on the DS. I prefer having this vertical opposed to horizontal.

It really doesn't do much justice and when you have it horizontal, so I figured just having a vertical would make a little more sense here and well. This is the way to experience the DS version, uh emulated, in my opinion, with a controller and as of now I'm having no issues no frame drops. You know I'm going around uh this whole place and just having a good time so without further ado. I think it's time to go to the next emulator, so the next emulator I'm going to be testing is the red ream emulator, which is the dream cast emulator. As you can see here, uh when you're playing with the game pad, it goes completely full screen and takes the buttons off the screen, which is nice for a free emulator as well, because you can play as many ROMs on this as you want.

So, let's just retry here and get it started. It runs in full screen, since this is the free version, I am not currently uh using any higher resolutions, so I'm not actually going to be picking anybody up right. Now, I'm just going to show that this runs absolutely perfectly uh. There may be one or two frame dips once in a while, but nothing that slows down the game from what I've seen. This is a pretty fast-paced game and uh, one of the really nice-looking ones on the dream cast, as well as on the PS2 and all the other platforms just came out on.

So clearly, it's just going to show that this game just runs absolutely flawlessly. It's running full screen full speed, uh playing with the Xbox controller, which honestly, in my opinion, is the best way to uh experience this game even compared to the dream cast controller. I've, never a fan of the joystick on that one, but man dream cast is very easy to run on my racer phone, and I've actually had no problems running it on my motor either, but it just truly shines on here. If I were to buy the full version, I guarantee that I'd be able to play this game, probably at 1440p, without any issues either considering that there is literally nothing going wrong right now running perfectly. Alright, let's get to the next game.

Obviously a lot of people are going to want to play sonic adventure 2 on the g on the DC emulator, and just from my experience on here it runs flawlessly. Let's just show it runs just as it should. I actually beat sonic adventure 1 on the motor, but this one runs perfectly on the racer phone, just as it should, and damn does that look great. You know full speed, I'm garbage at this zone and obviously my a button is a little defective on this controller. So it's um not very easy to always hit those jumps.

But, as you see, you know, I'm getting full speed, and it just seems like there's no frame dips anywhere, I'm not having any issues whatsoever running this game. So I think that's just goes to show that dream cast is very easy to run and games like this that are pretty high in the graphical department in uh. At this point in time for the dream cast, you know this just goes to show that I guess you can pretty much run any dream cast game as long as you have this phone or any other good android device, but we're talking about the racer phone today, so yeah we're seeing this right now, I'm playing with no problems, uh playing full screen, and I'm playing ridiculously but hey it's running great and honestly, it plays just like a wooden console and, like I said before, if I got the full version of red ream, I'd probably be able to play this at 1440p and judging by how dream cast games typically look when you upscale them, it will probably look gorgeous so yeah. Maybe I'll do another video of just how games look at the dream cast emulator at some point if I do buy the free version, but for now this just this is our test, and you know what I'm loving it. So, let's jump to the game cube emulator.

So here we are in the dolphin emulator right now I am going to be testing SpongeBob SquarePants the movie and, as you can see right now, literally no problems with performance. I did have to adjust the settings to get dolphin to run pretty well on this phone, and I will show those settings uh in my description. I won't show it in the video, because the video will end up being way too long that way, but I am very satisfied with how this game performs on something like this, and I will definitely show the settings I'm using to get it to be this way. This was one of the games from my childhood and definitely a pretty good, cartoonish graphics kind of game now, depending on the game you play, will depend on the settings that you're using on this phone. I am right now on this game having it to where it's probably like at 72 percent uh of the console's power, because this doesn't take full advantage of the game cube uh, but it definitely is a good graphically, a good game graphically so just looking at it, you know going in these speedy areas, uh literally no frame dips.

Just look at that. You know it's just platform's coming down I'll only do this a few more seconds just goes to show that's very nice gameplay-wise, and I'm probably going to die, because I'm just no good, but look at that. Just no problems at all right. So let's go to the next game. Okay, so Super Mario sunshine.

I am running in 720p right now, you're going to notice. In the loading screen there are some frames dipping. You can see the fps in the corner right there, it's jump, it's jumping up and down just a little, so I haven't actually found the perfect settings for this game yet, but I am seeing that it is running pretty damn well, and you know it's pretty good, for you know a mobile device. You know playing a dolphin emulator, so you'll see in the cut scene. It dropped to 27.

But, looking at this, it's running pretty. Well, you know it's pretty good whoops, oh yeah, I mean no issues full screen 720p. I will show my settings like I said before in the description. Just look at that games running basically flawlessly. I mean there were a few frame dips in some areas before, but it's uh definitely a perfectly playable experience.

If uh you don't mind frame dips every once in a while, but just look at that. You know. I think it just goes to show the art style. This game has definitely aged very well, and it's a perfect game to play. So, let's jump to the last game that I'm going to test on this emulator.

So this game is a pretty good one. It runs at 60 fps, and this is monkey ball for the game cube. I'm loving how this game runs. Honestly, it's just it's great. It's great seeing game cube games just run great on a phone like this, and this hypes me up, because this makes me know that you know the next phone.

I'm going to get probably will end up being able to play possibly better than this, which I can't can't even imagine, and I'm just really excited guys so far the games are running great. This is not dropping any frames at all. You know we're it's a pretty fast-paced game too, so you would think, but it's hovering between the 60s and 59 and the lows I've seen drop is 54 and still no slow down whatsoever, so Gabe cube emulator runs perfectly so just a little disclaimer guys beforehand. I did have spider-man 2 on this emulator on this phone, and it really just didn't run very well. I haven't really gotten the perfect settings to get it to run great and honestly, I'm probably not going to be able to get it to run great so where a lot of games do run perfect on the dolphin emulator on this phone spider-man 2 is just one of those games that didn't, and I have a feeling a lot of other games other than the ones I tested will run really well.

Considering Super Mario sunshine was one of the graphically intense games on the game cube as well as monkey ball, and I think SpongeBob SquarePants movie looks pretty good too so without further ado, guys, let's jump to the last emulator, and that is the Ciara 3ds emulator. So here we are running awkward enough time, 3d on the Ciara emulator. Now this is definitely not perfect performance. What I've seen so far, but I've decided to push the hell out of this hardware, so I'm running at four times the resolution right now, so this is looking pretty nice much better than it does on a regular 3ds screen. Now, if I move a little, you know it runs great, but there are times when the frame rate dips and I get a little of slow down you're, not seeing much of that here right now, but when I was playing before there was, so it's just weird how it's not going on right away, but I mean it's more than playable and the game looks great.

I mean I would rather play this on a standard 3ds than here, but just the fact that I can up the resolution four times and be able to emulate. This perfectly just goes to show how well this emulator is starting to come along. So we go in here. You know still no frame dips from what I'm seeing four times. The resolution keep him.

Oh, framed it there we go so as you can see, it's not perfect, it's not as good as dolphin, but then again, this app is definitely in beta in the beta stages. So here you see again more frame dips happening a little more often than before, which is expected, but it's not a huge deal right. You know it still looks great, and it still runs great. I have a feeling the best way to run this game is probably at the one or two times resolution four times just pushing it a bit, but hey the game runs great. Let's do the last game that I'm going to test all right so, as you can tell I'm a pretty die-hard Pok?mon fan if I'm mainly testing these Pok?mon games, but this is one of the games that just looks really great, and I have this set at four times speed.

Just to note, though, this is far from perfect as you'll see when I enter buildings frames drop, slow down happens surprisingly, the gameplay itself is actually faster than cut scenes. So let's enter one right here, because you know this is where we're going to enter the patch of grass I'll. Just let you listen just like that cuts in and out so maybe four times speed isn't the best to do here, but I mean it's definitely playable, and here we are again some slow down right here. Look at mud kip he's all white. This is an updated version, so I'm going to pick tor chic, and this is definitely some slowdown right here.

Let's see how the battle goes, though, because that's what we're really here for right, we're not here to see some cutscenes, we don't care about those, but it's pretty slow yeah. So since we see this being pretty slow, let's just speed this up, I mean uh slow, this down to not slow this down, but lower the res to one times just to see how it does like that. So now we're back to one times the resolution and this game seems to be running perfectly fine, no slow down in sight. So if you're going to be playing a game like this, it's probably best to do it like this. But even then it's not perfect.

Let's just play a few minutes just listening to all this. This is definitely a major improvement over pushing the system to do those high resolutions. But you know this is pretty flawless guys. I have to say that I am very impressed with how this phone is performing. So once we're done with this little cut scene here, lets uh just walk around and that'll, be it for this video.

So let's just walk around hell. Let's battle, may let's go to the point where we battle may that's all we need to do and that'll be the last test. I keep clicking that by accident. Oh, you know you get your running shoes right away. I forgot about that yeah, Pok?mon emerald and really well.

My girlfriend's instar thing just went above it, but look at that straight to the point. Amber should destroy bug types in any second, so I'm surprised because I actually forgot that uh. I forgot that you get an uh a move set already at level five in this game, where, if you were playing sapphire, ruby or emerald, you wouldn't get ember. So definitely an interesting remake. Definitely uh made it easier to start out I'd say I don't care about the poke marts.

Oh, look. We got some slowdown, so definitely not a perfect experience but damage it, a good one. Yes, I know about Pok?mon centers I played Pok?mon before and more slow down as graphics get a little more intense, but that's completely understandable. This is, however, a 300 phone running, a 3ds which still can be a bit pricey nowadays. So let's just battle may and that will be the end right after some slow down there.

What the is wrong with mud kip? What's going on there? Why is mud kip white? Oh, definitely. Some slowdown going on their yeah. This is a not looking 100 right now, but it's Pok?mon it's more than playable. You know, I'm surprised that they didn't give mud kip uh, they didn't give him water gun or something which I'm surprised about all right. Look it's now all right! So that's the last test on my racer phone for emulators.

So let's get into my final verdict. Sorry about that guys. I actually forgot to test the Nintendo 64 emulators, so I'm just going to show it here: real, quick uh. This is conker's bed fur day, as you guys should know at this point. Uh surprisingly, it's letting me use my dual sticks, which is not what I expected, as you can tell this game just runs really well, there's not much.

I have to test considering that you guys already saw how it performs on most powerful console much more powerful consoles, so I'm just showing this a little, let's jump into here, just uh! Well, it's not gonna! Let me, but, as you can tell no frame dips. Graphics are really nice in this area, and this actually looks surprisingly better than if you played it on an actual Nintendo 64. , so very impressed with the visuals here, uh yeah. That's it there. Let's now, let's get into the final verdict.

So my final verdict is that I am very impressed with the racer phone 2 with how it performs in emulation. I just can't believe that this thing can run pretty much all current gen handheld systems and systems that were pretty hard for me to emulate. On my computer. Not too long ago I mean the dolphin emulator doesn't even run perfectly on my PC and I have an i7 4770k, a GTX 1070 32 gigs of ram, and this is just a tiny phone that was basically able to in some ways outperform it. I mean it's kind of weird to think that, but this has helped outperform my PC in certain aspects, which is very weird, because this is only a 300 phone keep in mind.

So I was very impressed with how this ran. I'm very excited to see what comes next. I know it's not the most powerful phone on the market, but it definitely isn't one of my favorite phones. Furthermore, I've ever had, and it might even be my favorite phone of all time topping my droid turbo. That was my favorite phone for the longest time.

So, although this isn't my primary phone, it is great to have as a secondary phone and, if I ever am on, like a long car trip a flight, you know a train ride. I feel like this would be the perfect device for me to have. If I had a game pad with me on top of being able to play game pass on this thing, I love the hell out of it. This thing is a beast: I'm very excited for what comes next. I really hope.

Racer goes and makes another phone, but chances of that happening are very slim, but if they do end up coming out with one, you know I'll be the first person online to get one so anyway, guys. Thank you for watching this video. If this was a video for you, I hope you enjoyed it and if you were looking to get a phone, I definitely 100 recommend this one if you can find it for a good price. Thank you all. Once again,.
