Pixel 4a 5G Review | Best Google phone of 2020? By Tech Spurt

So, despite the fact that it was actually launched already month ago, the pixel 4 5g is only just about to hit the Google store offering a nice bit of middle ground in between the affordable, pixel, 4 rear and a billy big bollocks' pixel 5 flagship phone, and it's certainly not cheap at 500 quid. But you get most of the benefits of that flagship handset, including the same honorific camera hardware, another gorgeous OLED screen and that super smooth performance. So if you've actually been patient enough to hang around and wait for the Pixel 4a 5g to go on sale, has it been worth that weight? Well, I've been using it as my full-time smartphone for the last week and playing with it for about a month now and here's my full in-depth pixel, Fourier 5g review and from the latest greatest tech. One of the key areas where google has cut costs here compared with the pixel 5, is that plastic frame, which is something of a rarity at this Aston price, while most phones, sport, a glass finish instead on the plus side. That matte finish means that the pixel 45g doesn't pick up greasy muck and prints, and things like that very easily at all, although of course, plastic is rather susceptible to scratching and sure enough.

A month on, after pulling it out of the box, we've got a couple of Wii nicks on that ass end, although thankfully, the actual display itself is absolutely fine. Thanks to the gorilla glass 3 cotton, I'm also a bit gutted that google is only offering this phone in bog-standard black, especially after Samsung's recent s20 fun edition emerged in a rainbow of colors. I mean I know that a complete lack of any kinds of vibrancy or fun is basically what 2020 is all about. I mean let's face it. If this year had an official mascot, it would probably be an old ROG turd, with a frowny face or an angry seagull, with a used condom stuck to its head, but at least the pixel 45g is comfy to grip, despite being the biggest of Google's new trio at 6.2 inches, that's still pretty compact by modern smartphone standards, at least it is until your factor in those chunky bezels, which means that this blower is definitely still a bit of a handful, and while there's no nifty one-handed mode or screen shrinking feature of any description here on the pixel Fourier 5g, you can at least drag down that notifications bar from anywhere on screen, which is nice and helpful. You can even drag it down using the rear, mounted fingerprint sensor as well.

Although I knocked that feature off pretty quick, because it's really sensitive, and I found myself knocking that scanner back stand all the time and dragging that bar onto the screen. Now boot up this Wii, blighter, and you'll find you've got the latest freshest android 11 oses on there, plus, of course, that reassure and google guarantee of three years of timely updates definitely a good reason to grab a pixel phone over any of Google's rivals, and it's the same software experience that you'll get with that pixel 5 flagships, the pixel 4 a5g, boasts all the classic features like now playing and live captions, plus an always-on display. Thanks to that OLED tech. Google Pay of course, works perfectly while the updated power screen also gives fast access to your smart home goodies. I'm sure you don't get as much customization with stock android as you do with some rivals, but the overall experience is very slick indeed.

Sadly, there's only space for a single sim card. Inside this beast, although at least the pixel 45g also supports ENIM and yeah as usual, there's no micro, SD memory card support to expand the storage, but you do get 128 gigs on there to play around with, which should be plenty for your media and apps. For quite some time and of course, google, as usual, is offering unlimited cloud storage for your high-res photos now compared with the other pixel phones from 2020, the Fourier 5g sports, a bigger OLED screen. It's a 6.2 inches that is sheer eye candy, like the other pixels you've got a full HD plus resolution, and because this display is smaller than many rivals, images look supremely crisp and detailed. The perfectly balanced color temperature and sharp contrast make for natural looking images, especially when you're watching HDR content on services like Netflix well.

You've also got the option to make those colors really pop if you prefer jazzy vibrant visuals. However, I have to say when I was using this as my full-time phone, I really did miss having a smartphone with a 90 hertz refresh rate. This thing tops out at just 60 hertz, and you miss out on that super smoothness whenever you're just flipping through menus scrolling through apps, that kind of jazz and considering most rivals like the OnePlus word and the Realme x55g serve up that 90 hertz refresh. It's a real shame that it's missing here and yeah that selfie orifice does intrude slightly on your view, although, thankfully not too much as it is tucked away in a corner, you do have a stereo speaker, setup on the pixel 4a5 g, although the bottom mounted speaker clearly pumps out most of the audio, so it does sound a little unbalanced, and that said at least the earpiece speaker doesn't sound all tinny and horrible, like it does on some other so-called stereo speaker setups, and something else that the pixel Fourier 5g buffs, that the likes of the OnePlus word con offer up is a proper headphone jack who bloody raw that most definitely came in handy at times. Although I also found that the Bluetooth connection on the pixel 45g, unsurprisingly, was absolutely perfect.

My connection, never cracked out on me. You got support for the usual high-res cord and another reason to grab the pixel Fourier 5g over Google's flagship is that you get the exact same snapdragon 765g platform, providing the grunt. That's the same choice as most of the competition too, and, like those other phones, I reviewed this lovely Wii bugger can handle anything you chuck at it, helped along by the six gigs of memory. If you like to distress by ending the short virtual lives of your enemies on the likes of PUBG and Call of Duty, mobile, no worries, you can murder away to your heart's content, while enjoying maxed out graphics, with a pleasantly smooth frame rate and split screen, multitasking and all the rest handle like an absolute dream. The pixel 4 a5g is never phased and, although, admittedly, there's no Wi-Fi 6 support on here, you've got full built-in 5g connectivity on here.

So between that connectivity and the performance, the pixel 485 g is certainly a lot more future-proof than the bog-standard. Vanilla, pixel, 4a battery life is absolutely dandy here, as well. If not quite remarkable. The just under 4 000, William cell, gives you enough juice to last the day, even with plenty of camera player, video, music stream and all that jazz, I tended to have around 20 battery life left at the end of a fairly long audio stay, so a perfectly respectable result. Although the 18 watt fast charge, support here is beaten by a lot of rivals like the OnePlus note and the Realme 7 pro and there's also no wireless charging support on here because of the plastic backing and everything, unlike the flagship, pixel 5.

And last up, there's a 12.2 megapixel, dual pixel camera sensor with optical image. Stabilization sat alongside a 16, megapixel ultra-wide angle lens and that's the exact same hardware setup as the pixel 5. So, unsurprisingly, I found in my testing that basically, the pixel 4 a5g turns out the exact same great quality, fantastic, look in every day photos indoors and out. You'll get plenty of fine detail packed into your picks. HDR situations are ably dealt with thanks to the dual brightness controls, so you can merely shoot your subject against a bright sky, no worries, and even at night the pixel 45g captures remarkably natural.

Looking images with lifelike, colors and good balance. The portrait mode is on point, adding a slick bucket effect to the background, and you can swap to that ultra-wide angle lens at any time for a wider view of the action without compromising those accurate colors. As usual, you still don't get a pro mod on this pixel smartphone, but it's not about that. It's all about the ease of use, the pointing and the shooting. If you want something, a bit more complicated than that, you'll definitely have to look elsewhere.

The results are basically the same when you're shooting video with the pixel 4 a5g as well. We're talking respectable detail levels on that 4k resolution setting, plus your typical natural looking colors the works. Audio pickup is again absolutely fine too. So this is a perfectly good blower for your everyday horn movies, swap to that eight megapixel, front-facing camera, and you'll capture, good-looking shareable shots, even if they're, not quite as detailed as what you would get from some rivals, with their flashy 32 megapixel sensors and to a haggard looking baldy like me, that's perfectly fine. You can once again switch to portrait mode and that night mode as well, although the latter does tend to produce some rather anemic looking shots, shall we say- and so that is what I thought of the pixel 485g after using it as my full-time smartphone for a week and playing around with it for more or less a month, as you can see, if you can't quite stretch up to that pixel 5 flagship phones, the pixel 4 a5g is a perfectly good compromise.

You get the same performance same great battery life, same gorgeous, OLED tech, all that good stuff and, of course, one of the major reasons for grabbing yourself. A pixel flagship phone is the excellent camera tech, and you get the exact same hardware here, as you are on that pixel 5. So the only thing you're really missing out on apart from little bits like the wireless charging, is the fact that you don't have that gorgeous 90 hertz screen of the pixel 5 flagship phone and yeah. I do really miss it, but I could live without it. I guess so.
