Motorola Moto G9 Plus | Unboxing & Full Tour

So Motorola is: shall we see one of the more prolific smartphone manufacturers, certainly in 2020, I've completely lost kind of how many new phones they've pushed out. It must be in triple figures by now, but you can always rely on them to put out a good old-fashioned stock android budget smartphone. That offers strong value for money and the latest is the motor g9 plus. This hits the UK hot on the heels of the motor g9 player, which I already reviewed a couple of weeks ago, or maybe it was a couple of months ago. To be honest, time has kind of lost all meaning to me in this covered reality, but this morph is slightly more expensive than the g9 plate at 259 quid here in blindly, but it offers a specs upgrade across the board as well, so enough, hitter, chatter, let's unbox the Motorola motor g9 plus, and go on a full-on tour of the hardware and the software. So you know what to expect, if you're tempted by one of these bad boys and for more than the latest greatest deck, including the banner of the twelve dozen more roller phones before the end of 2020.

Please do poke, subscribe and ding that notifications bell cheers, so there's a quick squint of the actual box itself. Don't worry about the specs and stuff I'll go through all that in detail and let's see what you actually get in here. So of course, naturally, the phone itself. What an absolute piece that is you've also got the usual boring guff and a porky pin device. You've got your turbo power, 30 charging adapters more on that in a bit an absolutely thrilling bit of type-c USB action, and that is that nice and simple, although you will notice, of course, that the motor g9 plus itself does come pre-wrapped in a condom case just to help keep it extra protected.

So you can keep that on. If you want otherwise just chuck it now, I've handled some pretty hefty in 2020, I'm not ashamed to admit, but the motor g9 plus is right up there. It's a 6.8 inch device so pretty much a tablet from back in the day and yeah. This thing is constructed from plastic like most budget smartphones, but it does weigh a hefty 232 grams. So yeah certainly going to be feeling this one when it's stashed in my shorts- and it is as you can see, they're a glossy finish as well, so a mirror effect and, as you can hopefully make out there as well, it's already getting covered in greasy prints, and I've only been handling it for about 30 seconds so that boards, well still gotta, say I do like that navy.

Blue finish. That's rather fetching, I believe, that's the only color option here in the UK, but you can also pick up the motor g9 plus in blush gold. If you want something a little different, a lot of these plastic modular smartphones do tend to scratch up quite easily, normally within just a week or so. You've got a few little like nicks' appearance on that back end, so you might actually want to keep the prophylactic case slapped on there just to give it that extra bit of protection. However, as with a lot of its budget-friendly, smartphones, Motorola has at least added a nice bit of splash protection to the motor g9 plus, so you know don't go drop it in the jacuzzi or anything like that.

But if it gets, you know splashed with a bit of beer uh. You know out in the rain, something like that. It'd be absolutely fine and the resurrection of edge-mounted fingerprint sensors. Still Gordon strong, looks like most budget smartphones in 2020 have actually had them, which is great to see. Uh you've once again got one here on the motor, g9 plus as well uh.

So let's get this morph all set up and take a tour of the rest of it, get ready for the psychedelic, intro love it, and when you're sticking your sim card in this bad boy as well, it's worth noting that it does have a dual sim setup, but that second sim slot is also shared by the micro SD memory card. If you want to stick one of those in instead to expand the 128 gigs of on-board storage up to a further 256. Okay, we are all set up and ready for action, and it will come to absolutely no surprise whatsoever uh to any more drawer fans out there. Then, of course it is a stock version of android slatted on here. Android 10 should hopefully be getting an upgrade to android 11 Spanish, and I do like that stock android, especially because it means you don't get any crap wear shoved on there.

It's all just basically the standard, google apps plus, of course, a good bit of the mortal experiences, and I've banged on about this so much, I could probably do it my sleep to be perfectly honest with you, but basically just adds a bunch of extra little bonus, uh gesture controls, for instance, quite a lot of stuff packed in their fan favorites like the uh double karate chop to turn on the torch, and you've got the double wrist twist to open up the camera app as well, which definitely gets harder with age and on recent mode of all the smartphones, with the edge mounted fingerprint sensor. You also have the very 80s sound and power touch feature. I keep wanting to call it double tap because you basically just tap your finger twice against it. But of course double tap is john wick two to the head. This is very easy uh to pull off, thankfully, and, as you can see, it just brings up a small menu with up to six different shortcuts packed in there and that's completely customizable, as you can select exactly what you want, and you can select some shortcuts, which actually dive specifically into features within app.

So, for instance, on youtube, you can load up quickly your YouTube subscriptions list, or you can perform a search super quick, so it's kind of partially handy, sadly, no one-handed mode in there, though it seems to have been missing in action. The last couple of more while the smartphones have you done the uh, the motor g9 stuff, which is a shame uh, but plenty of other stuff as well. It's got tips and tricks guys just to dive into some features you can mess around with the display settings through. Here too. I'm definitely a fan of that game.

Time feature as well. What this allows you to do is basically bring up a menu of options while you're playing a game. So, for instance, you can quickly block notifications, you can have to fine-tune the performance things like that and because this is one of the more premium Motorola budget phones. Of course, you've got all the other features that you would expect to have on here, like NFC support for your contactless pms. You've got full google peer support on here, and you've also got dual-band: Wi-Fi all that good stuff and like a lot of stock android smartphones in recent times, you've actually got dedicated Google Assistant buttons stuck away here on the left edge, as well as a quick tap of that and uh and nothing happens.

Apparently, let's just try that again. Oh there, she pops not really a fan of the old Google Assistant buttons. I've got us here, especially as you can just quick and easily just flip up from the bottom corner of the screen. Nice and easy, of course, you've got full uh voice, control, support and all the rest as well. You don't seem able to reconfigure that or even disable it in the sense, that's slightly annoying, and I'm also not a massive fan of the way that the volume rock has been shunted all the way up that right edge here on the motor g9 plus as well.

It's actually really hard to uh to reach all the way up there and get to especially if you're, trying to bump the volume up now. Of course, media fans are one of the target audiences for the motor g9 plus, because you get this absolutely enormous, 6.8 inch IPS display you got full HDR, 10 plus support on there as well. It's a pretty nice sharp contrast and natural looking colors for an IPS panel. There's a full HD resolution here on the motor g9 plus as well. You might be thinking it's a 6.8 inch display. Is that really going to be sharp enough? But the good news is that yeah visuals look absolutely crisp, whether you're watching a movie checking out photos checking out smaller text on websites, no worries.

That said, I have noticed a couple of stutters. While I've been streaming a bit of Disney plus uh, which I haven't experienced on any other smartphones recently so touch wood- that's just uh sort of initial jitters, while it's busy setting itself up in the background, still downloading apps and such forth touch wood at least now. Sadly, unlike last year's Motorola, g8 plus, you don't get a stereo speaker setup here on the g9 plus side, it's just a single bottom firing, mono speaker uh, which I'm a little gutted about. But let's boost up the volume and see what we're working with I trudged through last week's viewer, comment to see how many people think I basically look like a more haggard, disinterested version of Bruce Willis. Now, certainly on top volume uh, the sound is powerful enough to cut through any kind of background glamour.

So you'll be absolutely fine if you're just watching a bit of YouTube in a very noisy household. Unfortunately, it's also a very tinny speaker as well, so you'll definitely want to plug in. If you want to properly enjoy some media, and especially if you want to get some music on the go, thankfully you do have a headphone jack up top you've also got full Bluetooth support as well, and, as you can see, there, you've got support for the likes of a bit of DAC action. If you connect to some Sony headphones. Something like that.

So you get that nice high quality audio through, although I'm not seeing any Dolby Atmos support or anything along those lines. Now, when it comes to the performance, you've actually got the exact same uh platform. Stuffed in here as you do the pixel 3 ears. So that's the snapdragon 730 g chipset, it's backed here by four gigs of ram standard benchmarking scores, as you can see there, and I'd fully expect to have a nice smooth, everyday performance at this bad boy and hopefully should be absolutely fine playing the likes of PUBG mobile and Call of Duty on those top detail levels. As for the battery there's, a 5 000 William cell stuffed inside the motor g9 plus.

That should keep you going all day, long, quite happily, hopefully well into a second deer as well, and I'm guessing there's basically not gonna, be a mortal g9 power uh because they tended to have the five thousand million batteries unless it's going to be absolutely freaking ginormous like even bigger than this. I really hope not, but you do also get the new turbo power.30 uh, fast charging tech, as well with the uh, the turbo power charger actually bundled in the box as well. So that should get this bad boy fully powered up from empty in about an hour or so, let's finish up this unboxing and full tour with a squint at the motor g9 pluses, quad, lens rear camera, and what you get here is a 64 megapixel primary lens, a new megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor and then a 2 megapixel macro and depth sensor as well, like anyone really cares, and certainly from a quick squint, no real surprises from the Motorola camera apps. If you've used a Motorola smartphone before you'll know exactly where you're at you can quickly swap to that ultra-wide angle, eight megapixel lens with a quick tap down here, although if you do so, it does seem to make things a little grainier, certainly here in this ambient room as usual. Of course, you've got full-on pro controls.

If you want to dive in there and manually tweak some settings like the white balance, the ISO levels, the shutter all that kind of shenanigans, and in this mode you can also shoot in good old, raw or raw and JPEG. Let's see how that photo quality is looking uh with the early test. It's really pretty good, considering it's quite dark in this studio. At the moment, of course, you've got the bright lights, also intruding on the screen. There color tone hasn't been naturally captured, unfortunately, but it is quite testing conditions.

You can, of course, swap all your bonus mods with just a quick tap of this icon. Otherwise, I swipe down, and you'll, see that there is a night vision mode in there as well, which uh I was hoping would be there considering. I think it was even in the motor g9 play, and what this just allows you to do is shoot lots, different photos of different exposure levels. You've got to keep really still, and then it will fix them all together, for hopefully a brighter more natural. Looking result and again, the tone isn't quite there, but, as you can see, you do have more detail, packed in especially around the background areas compared with the standard mods and the light strip isn't as over saturated as well.

That's a bit more balanced, and by default, the motor g9 plus will shoot images at 16 megapixels using pixel bin just to help keep things nice and bright, even in quite ambient conditions. You can bump that all the way up to the maximum 64 megapixel ultra resolution, if you fancy, so you can capture creepy carol in full on detail, and you've got moderate as usual, AI smarts on here as well. Again, no surprise: there's, like a small composition, can just help to straighten up a wonky shot and just crop in a bit make it look better. Auto smile capture, handy if your family is absolutely miserable and then, if you want to shoot a good bit of video, you can shoot up to 4k resolution footage. That's the selfie camera though, so I'm clicking on the wrong thing.

There you go 4k ultra HD and last time you got a 16 megapixel selfie camera just shunted away there in the corner, uh, as you can see there, the ring glows, rather mysteriously, just to sort of attract your eye to it and uh. You can shoot where you get your Instagram actions on the go uh gives you a nice little level of mustache as you've got your shot is in wonky and of course, you've got the portrait mode smarts and all that good stuff as well, so that right there in a nutshell, is the Motorola motor g9 plus, as you can see, a lot of good smarts packs in there some respectable specs for your 259 quid. Of course, you do have some very strong competition from the likes of the Poco x3 NFC from Xiaomi uh, which offers you know, 120 hertz display and several upgraded specs across the board as well. But then, if you want a stock version of android instead well, the Motorola will do the job. So please do.

Let me know what you think down in the comments below stay tuned for lots, more budget, smartphone, roundups and all the good stuff, and please do have yourselves a lovely rest of the weekend. Cheers everyone loves. You.
