Motorola Edge - Battery (Review) By DanieBoy's Tech

Hey guys and gals Danny boy here, and today I have the Motorola edge. Okay, and what I want to talk about in this video is the battery on this phone, and I've been using this phone about three weeks now as my daily driver. So I just want to kind of have a discussion quickly here about the battery on this phone, and you know just kind of go over the spec here, and then we can look at the settings as well. So uh, let's go ahead and talk about what we got going on here. So this is a 6.7 inch uh size display on this phone, and it's a pretty you know thin phone. It's got the edge is on the side, for you know the display here, that's kind of what it's known for here and if I turn it on, you can see there.

It's a pretty good-looking phone and despite this thinness here we are packing a 4500 William hour battery, so pretty large battery here for the Motorola edge. Okay, now we know processor wise. We have the snapdragon 765 GE, um, that's a new processor from snapdragon. That obviously has 5g capabilities um, so basically um 4500 William hour. You would expect the battery performance on this phone to be pretty good right.

Well, my experience is it's been good. It's not been great. It's not been bad. I would just call it good and what I mean by that my experience I'm off charge, usually about 12 to 13 hours in a given day, okay, and I'm on Wi-Fi most of the day uh you know, except when I'm driving, maybe at a store or whatnot, I'm not on Wi-Fi right. So I am pulling 5g some, but not a lot, so basically uh after 12 13 hours off charge by the end of the day when I go to put the Motorola edge back on charge, I'm hovering around 55 to 60 percent battery life, so that's about where I'm at that's with medium usage, probably two to three hours of screen on time in there somewhere.

Okay. So with that being said, I would say the battery life here is good, it's not great, because it's not like in the mid 60s or even the 70s, but it's not terrible. It's not like below 50 or anything uh. You know outrageous for this size battery, so I would call the battery life here, good, okay, so in the box, what they give. You are an 18 watt charging brick with your USB c cable and that's how this phone charges.

So you get pretty uh good top offs with that uh. If you need to top your phone off during the day, you can't top it off relatively fast. Obviously, it's not like a 25 watt charger, but it's not anything less than 18. So you know it's not bad right. It's its kind of middle of the road there so yeah and um.

It does not. Unfortunately, if we take the case off here, it does not have wireless charging. Okay, there is no wireless charging on this phone. It might look like it does with this kind of shiny back here. I don't even think this is technically glass here um.

I think it's more of a like a plastic hybrid going on here. That looks like glass, not for sure on that, but there is no wireless charge here guys, so that might be kind of a bummer to some people. But remember this phone is 700 bucks, so it's kind of in that area wireless charge may happen. It may not. You know, you're kind of in that area where you might get it you might not, and on this phone you don't get it okay, so it is what it is guys for me.

Personally, that's not a huge deal. I don't mind, you know taking the extra two to three seconds to plug in the cord that doesn't bother me at all, I'm much more concerned about the styling of the phone and the display and the cameras and stuff like that. So um. One reason why you know you might think well, 55-60 percent, at the end of the day, isn't you know you'd, think it'd be like 65 70 percent or maybe even 75 percent battery life left with this 4 500 William hour battery in this phone and one reason for that: uh might be the 5g right. So your you got 5g capabilities that might be eating the battery a bit here.

Um. You know, I'm not for sure on that I've not turned 5g off to try to test that, but that is one theory. Another theory is that this phone does have a 90 hertz display and I keep the 90 hertz on at least until a couple of days ago I was keeping it on 24, 7. , okay, and I did notice the battery life seemed to increase. I don't know how much exactly, but it did seem to increase the last couple of days when I switched it over to 60 hertz.

Now, right now, it's on 90 hertz, and you know if it's nice to have the 90 hertz for sure. But that's going to hit the battery life. You know how much I'm not exactly sure, but it's definitely going to hit it. Okay. So that's another thing to keep in mind here: uh with the Motorola edge.

So let's go ahead and go into the settings here and see what we got going on in the battery area here. So actually here it's at the top okay. So it does allow you when to have the phone turn on the power saving mode there. I can do it based on percentage um, and I've got uh 30. So that's when it will come on for me.

I definitely like that. Customization there and um. Of course, you can show your battery percentage in the menu bar there. As you can see there, I've got it there at the top. It's actually the status bar.

I don't want to use an apple term here um, so it does have your statistics, okay and um. If we go to adaptive battery, I do have that turned on okay, and you can kind of read there. What that does um limits uh battery for infrequently used apps? Okay, so you might want to turn that off if you're having some software issues, you know if something's turning off like your text messaging app or something you might want to turn that off. I might actually turn that off for a while, just to see if I notice any differences there, but this is what we got going on. You know pretty modest, pretty standard here.

You do have your usage details. If you want to look at that right, so you know just a really um decent battery uh performance here on the Motorola edge um, you know being a 4500 William hour. I think I would have expected a little more from it, especially since we've got a 385 PPI display. If this was a quad HD display. I think 55 60 at the end of the day for me would be more acceptable, but I know I kind of wish it was a little higher, maybe 10 15 percent higher based off the stat, but if you forget about the stats and just go by, is it good or not? Yeah, it's good.

I mean 55 60 after 12 13 hours off charge. That's still pretty good! Here it's not as much as you would think, though, based off that 4 500 William hour spec. So I guess that's what I'm trying to say here guys, but overall, on the Motorola edge here, we've got good battery life so guys. Those are my thoughts here.
