The iPhone 12 mini is exactly the kind of phone I've been waiting for someone to make a device that can pull off 5g and flagship performance and take great pictures, but actually still fit in your pocket. If you've been waiting for a phone like this, too, I'm happy to report that your patience has paid off. The iPhone 12 mini is the smallest member of the iPhone 12 family with a 5.4-inch screen. It's also the cheapest starting at 699 on contract or 729 for an unlocked model. As you might have heard, it doesn't come with the charger in the box. It only starts with 64 gigs of storage, so that initially attractive price does begin to creep up on you once you start adding options and accessories you might need.
I've already explored the regular 6.1 inch iPhone 12 in another video, and the good news is that everything I liked about that device applies to the mini as well. The difference, of course, is that it's smaller you get the same new flat edge design with apple's ceramic shield protective glass, a new MagSafe accessory system, the same a14 bionic chip that has set performance records in our benchmarks and the same widespread 5g connectivity across low to mid-band n millimeter wave you'll also get the same dual lens camera system, with its new f 1.6 aperture primary lens. That makes it the fastest lens ever fitted to an iPhone which allows 27 more light to reach the sensor. Definitely improving those low light images like this night shot, even through the front-facing lens you're, going to see an improvement in the quality of selfies, thanks to apple's, deep fusion technology which can really hone in on those really particular details like, in my case, the fabric of my hat and the tone of my skin. It's overall, much more clear compared to the pixel 5 shot.
This same lens is also capable of recording 4k HDR video at 30 frames per second in Dolby Vision, and just so you know this entire video was shot with an iPhone 12 in exactly that mode, crazy right, the biggest difference between the mini and the regular iPhone 12. Unsurprisingly pertains to battery life. The iPhone 12 minis battery is the smallest of the bunch, and that means it just can't last quite as long on the charge. In fact, we ran our web surfing battery test on the mini and recorded 7 hours and 19 minutes of 5g browsing in one test compared to 8 hours and 25 minutes in similar conditions on the iPhone 12. If you want the best battery life, then you'll need to shell out a bit more for a larger iPhone.
However, if you want the true flagship phone that can really do it all, but doesn't force you to put up with unwieldy one-handed operation, the iPhone 12 mini is in a class of its own. I've been at a missile, and you can read my full review over at Tomsk. You.
