iPad Pro 2020 vs iPad 10.2” 2019! Why Pay TWICE as Much?!

The iPad is amazing. The iPad Pro is also amazing, but there is a pretty darn big cost difference between the two, and today we're going to find out. Is it actually worth spending at three times as much to get that pro label so uh? Is it let's find out? What's up everyone I'm the everyday dad? If I can figure it out, you can figure it out. I mean what makes something pro anyway, I mean just from looking at these two devices from a usability standpoint. They don't really seem all that different right. They don't they don't look all that different, even though I just undid that one it's a sheet of glass that I can play Candy Crush on.

Do you really need to spend so much more to get that candy I mean we do want the candy to be nicer, but is it worth that much more to get the kitty a little nicer first off one of the big things where they are both very similar is they are both each of these are running the same operating system? My iPad Pro is running iOS 13.4 and my iPad non-pro is also on Iowa's 13.4 when it comes to straight-up underlying OS functionality. Both of these computers and I do consider these computers by the way they do the same thing, and they get the same updates. We'll talk more in a minute about this, but both of these iPads have the new Mouse and Bluetooth accessory support, basically changing these from a consumption device that only really exists to watch YouTube, videos and movies on a screen bigger than your phone and turns those into devices that can be used for basic computer tasks and really and what I use my pro for is more intense production, slash video processing tasks, one of the things that I like about both devices, but I love about the standard iPad is all of Apple's software innovations go to this device and the insane amount of optimization that happens on the iPad as a platform means that not only do you get these updates, but the speed is still fantastic, like the iPad Pro is one of the fastest computers I've ever used and I. Think it's a great value, but the speed for the iPad standard for about three hundred dollars. When you look at the base model, that's bonkers, like it's so shocking that I want to curse about how crazy it is speaking of price.

Let's talk about that as an Aspen. Where these to do diverge, the standard iPad can be had with a base model at 329 dollars. The upgraded model, which is the one I have comes with 128 gigabytes of storage for $429, and let me tell you that a hundred bucks, that's a pretty well spent a hundred dollars. The standard iPad also comes in the standard. Apple colors give it standard and standard.

It's a dad joke. It comes in an apple color, space, gray silver and gold, the iPad Pro, though it does have a little more customization. Then it's you know, then its predecessor, you can get this an 11 or 12 point 9 inch model, I'm a'm, a very big fan of the 11-inch model. I. Think that is really like.

The spirit of the iPad is the 11-inch model. It does only come in space grain silver, but how many people? Actually, if you buy the gold devices, leave a comment below because I've never actually seen one outside a store, so its base, lean inch model comes in at $799 and thankfully, that base model does come with 128 gigabytes of storage, still kind of low, but way better than that 32 gigabyte, stuff 32 gigabytes is not in 2020. You can't upgrade it all the way to one terabyte hard drive and that clocks in at twelve hundred and ninety-nine dollars. If you do a lot of creation, I mean if this is the only computer, your own, that might be the way to go. I personally split the difference and I went with the 512 gigabyte option.

Another way the two iPads diverge is in their displays. This is one of the biggest most noticeable differences between the two. The iPad Pro display is gorgeous. There's no two ways about it: Apple really went out of their way to design this with a super sleek minimal, bezel design that just screams ice creams, beauty, I'm, not much of a computer guy, but this display is jaw-droppingly good, plus it's on a 120 Hertz refresh rate, meaning that playing games or moving the screen around. It's just super, super smooth, I didn't even see it was just super smooth.

I honestly didn't think this would be that big of a deal for me until trying out the iPad Pro from my standard iPad, it's its legitimately it's a night and day difference. It might not be worth that premium price for you personally, but it looks fantastic seriously. This is one of the best-looking displays I've ever seen on a piece of technology. It's now that's not to say that the display on the standard looks bad because it doesn't look bad at all. It actually looks perfect too.

Furthermore, it also has a retina panel. That's bright enough and color accurate enough for video editing. The biggest difference is it's at 60 Hertz, refresh rate, which I don't think. It's that big of a deal I, don't do anything in 60 frames per second anyway or 60 Hertz. It's not that big of a deal.

In my opinion, things will just move a little slower, and it does have some ancient and really outdated. Looking bezel, it's never bothered me by itself, but it's really striking when you compare it to the newer iPad pros, like you're, seeing a lot of light reflection. But when you compare the two together, you can really tell the difference and talking about the displays makes me want to talk about the physical construction of both devices. They both feel perfect, and they are both made of high quality materials. They are pretty thin, as you can see so.

I wouldn't put too much like lateral force on them and like a book bag, if you're using them at school, but I've been tossing them in my bags and traveling with iPads all over the country through airports on flights, and I've never had a problem with the bending. They just they're great I, do think at the iPad Pro I mean it should be. It's called pro right. I feel this is one of the best feeling devices I've ever come across. This feels super high quality and it just the build feels great like there's not anything about this.

Does there's not anything about this build quality to complain about. It feels like it's much higher price and again much like the rest. The video, the iPad doesn't feel bad, but the pro just looks and feels amazing like when I was a kid. The kind of future technology that I thought of besides flying cars and jetpacks, my computer in those like dreams, looked an awful life like this iPad Pro something kind of petty I mean what I'm I'm a regular person. I can be petty to something.

That's kind of petty between these two devices are the official Apple keyboard cases I, really like the official case for the iPad Pro. It's great look. It's like two hinges. You snap it on you're done you're good to go now. I can start typing, it's really easy to use, and you have just done like it takes seconds plus here in like a month or so we'll be getting a new keyboard.

That includes a trackpad, and it will directly work with the new iPadOS capabilities. Four mouse support I think that's going to be huge, and it will give the iPad Pro a tremendous advantage over every other single tablet. In this kind of market space, the standard iPad keyboard is kind of wonky I mean it took me a long time to kind of get comfortable and used to this thing, I mean look at this. Look at how many folds this thing has one it doesn't like. Can you see here this connects just back to the camera it connects to the back? So it's really easy.

Even one handed you just saw it, connects it snaps it lines up really well. This is really easy to line it up wrong and gets pulled off all the time, and you have to do like this weird triangle thing: to get it to stay in place like did you see that, and then you have to fold it like on top of itself and then over top of a screen, what it's just a weird thing and talking about it right now, it weirds me out just all over again. It's so much more convenient on the iPad Pro, and it has different positions, whereas this does not have different positions and it just it unsnapped again, there's another weird difference between the two and this will absolutely come down to personal preference. The iPad Pro does not have a physical home button. It uses face ID, so if you don't want to type in your PIN code, every time to unlock it, you just use face ID I, really like face ID on my iPhone and I.

Don't actually know that I like it as much on an iPad. There are plenty of times when I just want to like physically press the button to bring it to life instead of like maneuvering my face into position, and it's its just kind of annoying Hey. Is it the end of the world? Absolutely not. Is it annoying? Yes? So if I say this is a difference logically, the next step would be to assume the iPad has a home button which, thankfully, the script made its own internal logic since the non-pro iPad has the touch ID home button, which allows you to go back to the home screen where they touch the button. Additionally, it lets you put in your thumbprint or any other finger to unlock it in case that you again don't have your face like if you don't want to type in your PIN code, but your face is also not right here.

You just tap, and it goes it's so much. There are plenty of people that, like both, so I, can only recommend this part to you, based on your own personal preference. Do you like tapping a button? Do you like it just working because it sees your face which do I prefer well I, don't want to sway you it's a touchpad I prefer the touchpad so much more I miss physical buttons on electronic devices? I really do I like that. They're good, smaller I, miss physical buttons, something that they share and diverge on at the same time. That doesn't make much sense.

We'll just call that deep. It was deep. It makes sense because it's its accessory support, like I, said earlier. Both the iPad Pro and the iPad have access to iOS 13.4, giving both very powerful mouse support and external keyboard support, which honestly that's kind of game-changing. For me, if you saw my iPad editing video from last week, you'll know that while I was already on board with the iPad as a travel computer for my video editing, I'm more and more being sold on these as actual full computers when plugged into a monitor, and you connected to a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard I've been using my magic mouse and keyboard with both of these.

And it's amazing. It's its amazing. Do you get all the desktop apps? Are there reasons why you wouldn't want to do this? Yes, but if you can work inside the iPad ecosystem is fantastic. Much like a speed from earlier, and I'm really impressed with is the standard. iPad gets all of this functionality.

You can buy an adapter like this lightning to HDMI dongle and get it going in almost the exact same way to the iPad Pro. It connects the same keyboards and connects to the same mics, and it connects to the same mice as it's much more expensive and beefier cousin. Well, Gary, that's mine, I'm, the everyday dad my name's Gary, well, Gary you've been going on this whole time. Yeah, you're getting blah blah blah blah you've been going on this whole time about how these standard iPad is amazing. So why should we even consider the iPad Pro like you basically spent this whole video talking about? Well, the iPad Pro is not really worth it.

Okay. For me, there is a very, very there's one big difference between the two, and it's the decision maker, and it's kind of why I bought the iPad Pro. Basically, especially if you're looking at these from a production standpoint, the iPad Pro has a USB-C connection and the iPad standard has a Lightning connection that sucks so bad USB-C is just infinitely more useful than lighting. It works better with accessories, it does more things, and it can power more thing, meaning that a dongle for the iPad Pro can do SD card monitor power, multiple USB sees, etc. It can just do so much more to plug into this and enable this to be an actual computer doing computer tasks while the Lightning connection it just can't, I mean, like we said earlier, you can get a dongle for HDMI.

There are also separate dongles for SD cards, and you could make it work singularly, but it's just it's just not the same, and it's such a severe limitation on this iPad. Then it hurts I mean it's. The single biggest problem with the non-Pro line of iPads I can live with the smaller storage. I can live with the 60 Hertz display, heck I can live with the bezels I'm, not a monster. I'm, not a monster.

Furthermore, I, don't mind the bezels that much they're, not that big of a deal for me, but the lack of USB see directly leads to this being less useful. Furthermore, I, don't know, maybe that's a decision on Apple's part to protect the iPad Pro line, because without that limitation, if the iPad standard had a USB honestly, I would probably never get an iPad Pro, but at the end of the day. So what is right? Should you pay double the price premium to get the iPad Pro over the standard? iPad? Maybe look the iPad Pro is awesome, and it's absolutely one of my favorite computers of all time. I love this thing. It's fast.

It works well, and it does everything that I need for less money and less physical space than anything else in the market. This is it's fantastic. It's not hyperbole to say that this is fantastic, but the iPad standard does 90% of the same functionality. It's also very fast can be had for very, very little money, and it keeps most of the best features of the iPad Pro much like we said earlier. The real deciding factor I would recommend you to look at is done you need USB, C port functionality? Do you need external drives? Do you need external monitors, and you need SD cards and do you need all of that plugged in at once? If, yes, then I can't recommend the iPad to you, you have to get the iPad Pro, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but if you can space those things out, and you only need one phone time, I can absolutely recommend the standard iPad.

This has been a constant companion for me, and it's been at my side since I bought this thing like I, don't go anywhere without this now it'll be the iPad Pro, and if you like this video, you should check out my one-week later update on this iPad Pro, where we go a little more in-depth on the things that I both like and dislike about this crazy, crazy, fast computer click. Here, click on the iPad Pro to watch that video click, click, click, click, click thanks for watching.
