That's it of course, so listen here, real quick. I think this phone, the Huawei Mate x2, might be the most advanced bit of smartphone tech that you can buy right now and really. The mate x2 is so close to converting me to folding phones forever, but there's just a couple of things that are still holding me back, and I'll address those in this video and if you're wondering about the price of the Huawei Mate x2 at the time of this video right now, you can only get it in China and if you convert the Chinese yen to the pound, we're looking at about 2 000 pounds for a Huawei Mate x2, and that is the number one reason that's holding me back right now. But honestly, I think it's worth the money, and I'm about to explain why. So, if we look at the outer display on the Huawei Mate x2, it is a 21x9 6.5 OLED display with a 90 hertz refresh rate, and I'm so used to this aspect ratio because I've been using the Sony Xperia one mark ii for quite a while. Now and actually, while I've been using this phone, the mate x2- sometimes I forget to unfold it and, in my opinion, one way have done a really great job here.
That front screen is fully functional standalone, but there's really two things that will make you realize this is in fact a folding device, and it's the thickness and the weight. So the phone's thickness is around 14 millimeters, and it weighs in at about 295 grams, which does sound like a lot, but the thickness actually resembles very closely a flagship smartphone in a rugged case, and just to give you a bit more perspective on this, it's roughly 5.6 millimeters thicker than the iPhone 12 Pro max and around 67 grams, heavier than the iPhone 12 Pro max, which doesn't seem to be a lot when you look at it on paper and when it comes to weight. Waterways definitely put in some work here, and it really is something special. It is thinnest at its furthest edge when unfolded, which makes it far more well-balanced when, in the hand, also that subtle tapering allows the screen when folded to fold up more snugly inside, which means there's way less chance of dust slipping through the cracks and ruining that folding screen and trust me when I say this: it's just a matter of years before folding phones had the same weight and thickness as today's flagships. Now just quickly going back to that smaller exterior display, you'll notice, we've got that pill shape cut out in the corner.
For the two selfie cameras, the primary is a 16 megapixel wide and Huawei have also thrown in a 3d timer flight sensor, and I'm assuming Huawei made this decision to improve the face unlock, make it more secure than just a 2d face, unlock, and maybe not so much for these selfie photos. It will improve selfie photos with extra depth information, but if you really want to get an amazing selfie from this phone, you can literally just open it up and use that display as a viewfinder for your selfies and use your main camera. Now, let's talk about what this phone is really all about. It's the unfolded: IMAX smartphone experience, everyone, I've shown the mate x2 has had the same reaction, and that is just wow, and how much does it cost? So this display is really what it's all about. It's an eight-inch pixel, dense, 90, hertz, refresh rate screen and, of course it's a flexible OLED, but one thing worth noting is there's no camera cut out.
This thing is really a masterpiece and what makes it even more special is the fact that we don't have to stare at an unsightly crease when using this screen. Huawei have done such a good job of minimizing this with their unique hinge. Tech, which, I must say, is very, very satisfying just the way it clicks, open and closed is so nice and what further adds to this kind of smartphone IMAX experience is the addition of really nice audio thanks to the stereo speakers built in, and I just love the way the phone can instantly transition from the phone format to the tablet perspective so seamlessly, but check this out. This is pretty epic. Huawei haven't dialed back the camera tech we've pretty much got Huawei's flagship camera array here on the back, and this is probably another good reason for that price tag.
We have a 50 megapixel primary shooter with a huge image sensor behind it. We've also got a 3x telephoto and a 10x periscope zoom lens, as well as an ultra-wide with Lacey glass and, if you're interested, to see how this camera tech compares to the s21 ultra and the mi 11 ultra make sure you sub with your notifications on, because that video is on the way and how many times have you heard people say it's not what's outside it's what's inside that counts. Well, that is right and true when it comes to smartphones on so many levels. The mate x has the latest Karin 9005 nanometer chipsets, which has 15.3 billion transistors and is backed up with eight gigabytes of quality ram. Honestly guys, this phone is a real powerhouse and I even ran an an tutu benchmark for you guys.
So you can check out the score here and this places it as the 14th fastest phone in the world right now. So, overall, this thing is the real deal, there's just a couple of things that I think need improving. One of them is the battery size. So, right now the battery size in the mate x2 is 4500 William hour, which is enough for a regular smartphone to last all day, if you're going to be using this phone with the unfolded display a lot on the full refresh rate, you're, probably going to find that you kill the battery on it pretty quickly. But here's some good news in the box with the phone is a 66 watt, fast charger, which means, if you drain the battery very quickly, you can also charge it very quickly.
So that's kind of the answer to that problem and another problem that needs solving on folding phones, in my opinion, is the finish on the flexible display, because it's a plastic, it does leave a lot of smears when you're using it and fingerprints. So hopefully we'll see some improvements in that area too, and of course the last one is the lack of GMS. Now, if you have a Huawei phone- and you don't have Google apps, there is a really easy workaround, which I did a video about it's on screen right now, if you guys want to check it out, trust me, you can get google apps in literally two minutes, it's not the perfect solution, but it does work for most people and if you enjoyed this video I'd appreciate a thumbs up and if you subscribed, you are now one of the finest subscribers known to me. I'll see you guys in the next one, don't be late. Of course,.
