Before 2020 ended, I received something from our friends over at Huawei Philippines. I would like to say thanks to our friends over at Huawei Philippines for sending me this Huawei Mate 40 Pro for us to review here in our channel. I'm more than excited to review this super duper okay and awesome flaghsip and... Let's get our hands on this one. (introduction music) So hi guys! I'm Richmond of Gadget SideKick and welcome back to my channel. And we saw that we've just unboxed the Huawei Mate 40 Pro.
I'm telling you its flagship is so beautiful. The one in my hands is the mystic silver. And I can say that its color is so beautiful, right? Every time light strikes this phone, its color changes just like a rainbow finish. Then, its space ring is kind of unique. It's really something different.
If you also got the Pro Plus, its camera there is five on its space ring. But right now, we have the Mate 40 Pro which is the current best flagship available here on Huawei Philippines. And, I can tell you it's really something that you should try if you have the extra cash. I can tell you that it's really one of the best cameras I have ever tested. So, it's currently the number one on DXOMARK.
They've just recently replaced the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra as the former number one on DXOMARK. And I can tell you guys, its camera is so beautiful. They are currently number one on DXOMARK ranking. They've just recently replaced the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra as the former number one which is also here in my hands. I'll be making a camera battle for them in one of the future episodes here in Gadget SideKick, so you stay tuned for that.
And right now, let's break down the specs of this phone. And before we actually go in-depth with the Mate 40 Pro here on our channel, our friends sent us over at XUNDD Philippines a Beetle case for the Mate 40 Pro. So this case is very new. And, maybe they've heard I've got a new case, that's why they immediately sent me a case for my phone to be protected. I've been using Beetle for one of the longest time.
And this one is so durable. Every drop, every bump, it's okay. This is the corners that are absorbing the shocks. So we'll remove it. And let's try first this phone.
Woops. Hey. Not bad. It's a good fit for my Mate 40 Pro. Thank you, XUNDD Philippines.
So going back, this phone has a Kirin 9000 5G. This is the world's first 5nm chipset. And it has two configurations. Either go for 8/256 of storage, or 8/512GB of storage which is pretty, pretty huge. For me, the 256 is already too much.
But if you'll give me a 512, why not? It's still better if it's always bigger. And they bot have UFS 3.1 read and write speed. So right now, we'll just boot up our phone. There. So it's booted up already.
And this is my current screen out of the box which is for me, its wallpaper is very, very nice. And what I like about this is its 6.76'' OLED display. It's also HDR 10 guys, and its screen refresh rate is 90Hz. My experience using this phone was very good as compared with other flagship. I've come from the Mate 30 Pro and I put them side by side.
The Mate 30 Pro is also good, but of course every time a new version comes out, there's always improvement. Its screen and speaker are bigger than the Mate 30 Pro. And its, its display I feel like its better and more smooth. Especially the additional 90Hz screen refresh rate is a big deal for me, because I've tried many flagships already, 120Hz, 144Hz, 90Hz. It's different.
Its transition is really different. Higher refresh rate is really more buttery smooth in the eyes. And this phone also comes with a 1344x2772 pixel which is very, very large for its screen. And guess what, its front and back are both made of glass, and its sides are made of aluminum frame making this phone very, very durable. One of the industry's best.
Now guys, let's first take a look at its AnTuTu benchmarks. Maybe one of the few, for me in my channel where I hit 600,000 points on AnTuTu and Mi 10 Ultra being the other one and the Mi 10 Pro, because they both have the Snapdragon 865 which is the best from Snapdragon right now. This one's got the Kirin 9000 which is current best and first ever 5nm chipset of Huawei. So we've look at its DRM info, it's given Widevine Level 1 which means we can watch HD on this one on Netflix on this phone. So I've kind of got excited and I've also tried other benchmarks.
So here on the AITUTU benchmark, it's 173,000 points. On its Sling Shot Extreme, 5,160. On its Geekbench, the single-core was 930 and 3,392 for its multi-core. So let's check its screen refresh rate. It's really true.
Its screen refresh rate is really 90Hz here on the refresh rate checker app. So, so much for the benchmarks. So right now, we want to try its gaming, on how good it is. So playing Call of Duty, I can tell you that wow guys, this is probably one of the best experience that I've played on the Call of Duty. Its display is very, very nice.
And its screen is very, very bright. And its graphics is very, very punchy. When it comes to the gameplay, I can tell you that it's very smooth. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't notice any lags for playing 30 minutes. Then here on the Genshin Impact, it's the same.
Genshin Impact has very high graphics. And, I can tell you that its smooth with no lags. The attacks here is very, very nice and very, very smooth. Maybe its 90Hz screen refresh rate is kicking in. So guys, we've also tried watching HD videos here on YouTube on this phone.
And I can tell you, well, other than big dual punch hole on top of the screen, other than that, I didn't have any more complaints. For me, I'm not really too much of a big fan of double punch holes, single punch hole, and whatever punch hole on the screen. I just really want the screen to be full, I want to the screen to be really mine. I want no obstructions. But other than that, the display is okay.
It's very, very nice. Its chin is very, very pretty small. And I almost don't see any bezels on the sides because the Huawei Mate 40 Pro's got a curved screen display. So guys, let's talk about its camera. It has a 50MP aperture of f/1.9 wide main sensor. This is powered by Leica which is probably one of the industry's best when it comes to smartphone photography.
Then it even comes with a 12MP periscope telephoto lens, then 20MP ultra-wide lens. This is the triple camera setup that Huawei Mate 40 Pro has. In front, I've told you earlier, its got two punch holes which means it has two camera lens. So it has a 13MP front shooter, as well as it's paired with a 3D depth sensor beside the 13MP front shooter. So of course we already mentioned its camera specs.
Let's now look at the camera shots that we've got from this phone. So we can see the shots... I'm speechless. It's Leica and it's a Huawei Mate series. It's really, for me, one of the best phone, best vlogging phone in... in the market right now.
And I can tell you that I've been using the Huawei Mate 30 Pro as my main vlogging camera. Right now, I have a new vlog phone which is this one, and I'm very, very proud that I have this one for my vlogging purpose. And let's look at the selfie shots. So I can tell you that these shots are a big step up from the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The Mate 30 Pro sometimes have a feeling where my face is kind of washed out, but on this one, I can say that every single detail counts.
When I zoom in my PC, I can say that it's okay, and the graphics on my face is good. Especially on the portrait shots, I can say that the edges to edges of my face, it's very, very polished. Let's look at this phone used for vlogging on the rear camera. Camera of the Huawei P40 Pro. The camera of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is really, really something that we'd like to consider when you're looking for a good phone for vlogging.
It's pretty stable, pretty sharp. And, you can see the colors are really punchy, very, very lively. You can see the sky, it's really, really nice. The clouds is very, very defined. And, yeah.
It isn't the DXOMARK number one camera for nothing. So there, I can tell you... Well, what more can I say? This phone is really probably one of the best vlogging phone like I said earlier. Let's look at its front camera for vlogging. Hey guys! This is how it looks like when you're vlogging using the... Hey guys! This is how it looks like when you're vlogging using the front camera of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and it's pretty, pretty stable, pretty, pretty sharp, and I really love the color and it's really punchy.
Though at some dark spot, it's a little bit dark, but overall when you're on pretty good sunlight and pretty good lighting, it's gonna be a very, very nice front camera for vlogging, really. So guys right now, we're vlogging using the front camera of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, and it really looks nice. This one replaced my P30... This one replaced my Mate 30 Pro as my main vlogging camera right now outdoors. And it really looks smooth.
Check it out as I try to spin myself. Well, though there are still some dark spots, but give me some pretty good lighting, it's really pretty good and... Yeah. Let's take a quick walk. Let's see how good it goes.
Not bad. And this is the output of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro for front video camera for vlogging. So there. I can say that its front camera is very good when it comes to vlogging. And, I've used this camera to vlog fully the copper mask video.
So I'll post the link below for you to see how good and how smooth the transition using the front camera. Take note it's still the front camera, not the rear camera yet.13MP for vlogging. So guys, it's got a built-in in-screen fingerprint scanner and I can tell you it is very, very fast. Let's go try it. Its reaction is very fast, right? Right? Within a second, I've already unlocked my phone.
So guys, Huawei told me that it's got 4,400mAh of battery which is for me, it's kind of small compared to industry standard of 5,000mAh. But it's compensated by its 66W of fast charging capability. Its 66W charger is already included. Then we tried charging this phone. We drained it down to 9% then we charged back to 100% using the default cable and the default charger.
It only took us 42 minutes guys. This phone chargers quickly. So other than that, it can use the 55W wireless charging and 5W of reverse charging. So we tried the battery stress test on this phone, and we run PCMark all day. We placed it on 50% screen brightness for our testing to be neutral, not maximum or minimum.
So we got a score of 11 hours and 36 minutes which is for me, it's enough already, because it's a flagship. It'll be really consuming on the battery. But you can notice that its performance is really all out. It's very okay when it comes to its performance. You will not be disappointed in this phone when it comes to performance.
Then of course, one of the best partners for my Huawei Mate 40 Pro is the Huawei Watch GT2 Pro which is paired on this one since day one of this phone. And I can tell you I can track down all of my odometer, my stress monitoring, my sleep monitoring, I can monitor everything here on my Huawei Mate 40 Pro. And this phone comes in five colors. There's the mystic silver, white, black, green, and yellow. So what we got here is the mystic silver which is probably my favorite color on this batch.
So we can see in our SIM tray, it has two slots. It's either you go for two Nano SIM or one Nano Mem plus one Nano SIM, depending on your choice. And the Nano Mem can be expanded up to 256GB of additional storage. After two weeks using this phone, I can tell you that I've made two videos using this phone, and I've had many photo shots using this phone. I'm very, very happy using this flagship of Huawei.
And I can tell you that its camera is probably what I chase on this phone, its Leica lens. So, what can you say about this phone? For me, if you have the extra cash, extra budget, I can really say to go for this phone. Many will say that this has no Google Play. Don't worry. You can use all of that and you can download all the apps in the App Gallery.
If it's not on the App Gallery, you can search it on the Petal Search app. And I've got a lot of tutorials on how to use it here on the Huawei phones. So guys, what do you think about this phone? Is it okay? Is it a winner for a flagship? Comment on the comment section below and let's have a small discussion on what you really think about this new flagship of Huawei where it took down Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra as the number one phone on the camera when it comes to DXOMARK. DXOMARK won't just give out the number one spot easily when it comes to ranking. You really have to reach their certain criteria for them to give you a good score.
And they're very very strict when it comes to scoring in DXOMARK. And, I'm sure it's not a very, very easy achievement to do that. And if you've hit number one on DXOMARK, you should really be proud, and I'm really proud to have this number one phone of DXOMARK, together with my Mi 10 Ultra. Wait for it guys, these two phones will have a camera battle in one of my future episodes here on Gadget SideKick. So if you like this video, don't forget to like, subscribe, and click that bell icon so you don't miss any future content here on my channel.
So I hope we'll see each other again on my next video. Goodbye for now.
