First just wanted to comment on the newest uh android updates for the Google Pixel camera system. They're amazing. I got two in March for my old Google Pixel 3. I think that every Google Pixel camera gets slightly different upgrades, but for my old camera I think that uh, the video is definitely improved a bit. Furthermore, I think the photos less so, but the video seems to have improved uh. The camera got two updates.
Well, that's the way it feels like, because I update lots like I'm always checking to see what google is rolling out, and I feel like I got one, if not two updates this month, and they're. Both amazing, I'm just super impressed. You know for an old camera like this. The video is just spectacular. It's way more camera than I would ever need to make great videos, and this probably isn't the best way to showcase the horsepower that the camera has or let alone like how good the 4a or the Google Pixel 5 is.
The Google Pixel 5 must have outstanding video. I mean it's the same sensor, but still it's even got better software than this Google Pixel 3. So I'm really impressed with the video here. I want to get a Google Pixel 4 right here at five, but I realize that I probably don't need to I just want to I mean what I really need is a story. Yes, we have to check out this back alley because it's super cool.
This is the back camera. The back camera should be amazing, which it is, of course, but now, let's check out the crappier front camera in this back alley. Okay, this is not bad, not bad, not bad like for this sensor. This is pretty good. Okay, now, here, look at this angle here, though, that's pretty darn cool.
Look at that! That's awesome that looks amazing front camera sensor. Let's switch now to the 0.7, because the Google Pixel 3 has the wide angle lens, as well as the standard lens. Let's check that out, oh hold it, I can switch to it boom. Look at that! You can switch to it on the fly. You know that is not as good.
It's obviously inferior to the back camera, but still that's not bad. There's no stabilization, but still damn that that's not bad like that is not bad. You see, I have zero excuses for not being able to create good content. I mean it's, not the production value yeah, not bad. No stabilization, yeah, probably sh.
You can add some in post, though, but yeah there you go. That's the Google Pixel 3, that's the new updates. I mean tell you the truth. The camera had great video before, so I mean that's a little better, and I'd love to get my hands on a five or the new minion.5A is probably going to be very similar.25 6 in the fall might be amazing. They might give us a new sensor, not that we really need a new sensor, because clearly this looks a lot better than those new iPhone pros.
Another stupid flickering smart HD video. I shouldn't crap on iPhone too much. You know they're making a lot of money, and they're making a lot of money. So why should they change it? I mean demographic for uh filmmakers, who uh use phones to uh, shoot videos and who are complaining about all the uh video problems with new iPhones. It's probably pretty small, so now we're just walking across I'm not even really using special walking techniques just walking for an old camera like this.
It's got decent stabilization like really decent, but the front camera works perfectly in the daytime. Furthermore, it's nice! Furthermore, it's going to be a little of stabilization, but that's just the 1x setting on the front camera, I'm just walking normally kind of a noisy street. You know what works good enough. You know, I mean, I think it's amazing. Furthermore, you know.
The only thing that's lacking is the same old thing story story story. I need more story, but there's even some refocus. You can lock the focus on your face, and you can get some half decent refocus. In the background, I think that's pretty. Damn amazing and the audio is more than acceptable is Kristen.
He had something worthwhile to say: okay, here's another reason why the Google Pixel 3 is an amazing camera. It's because it runs in the android operating system which gives you access to open camera. It's an amazing third-party app which there is no equal in android or apple, and it works perfectly with the Google Pixel system. Well, okay works good with the Google Pixel 3. So I'm thinking it should work fine with the four and five models its open source, which is totally amazing, so it's free to download it's updated regularly, and I'm shooting with it right now, I'm on the 1920x1080 uh version.
Now it's just a default nitrate, 30 and 30 frames per second, and it's 40 megabits per second nitrate, which is yeah perfect for this resolution. Stabilization is rock solid and what it does have is an amazing exposure comp which the stock app does not have. The stock app does not have a good exposure comp, but this open camera app does which really helps a lot. It's just so nice. I highly recommend it if you're in the uh, if you have an android phone, and it's Google Pixel, I can't really say if open camera will work good for any other android phone.
Okay, here's the reason why the stock app does not have a lot of manual control: okay, we're still an open camera, I'm just setting it up, I'm just setting the exposure comp and oh I'm also in manual focus. So I can. I can set this up to uh. Give me some demo, because this also works a lot better. This app does a better job of using the front camera sensor than the uh stock after it, especially in low light in low light.
Oh, it's popping up. Okay, it starts popping on you. You have to like just shut it off and then start again. Okay, once you shut it off and start it again. You're okay, I mean okay, these third-party apps are never as stable as the original stock apps for the Google Pixel, but that goes for the apple phones and any other android phone stock, app's always the best but uh.
Now the exposure comp is doing its thing. See that okay, it's not perfect, but it's like 90 percent. It's way better than that anyways uh yeah, there's a little of refocus in the back there. You can set it up to focus on. I don't know one foot and you can.
No. The audio is not so bad either so yeah anyways. Here's why um here's? Why there's not a lot of manual control with uh? Not only the Google Pixel 3, but all cell phone cameras well, except for maybe Sony Xperia has a lot of manuals. Sony's always been. You know a little different, okay other than Sony.
The deal is most people. The demographic for cell phones is not filmmakers and YouTubers. The main demographic is just average people living their lives and just making videos of documenting their own life their family. So you don't need much, it's just. You know the technology and the um the quality and everything plateaued years ago.
On cell phones I mean most people don't want a lot more control than that right now, like auto, everything is fine for most people. So why would google invest more in adding manual control apps in their uh cell phones? When no one cares? Well? The percentage of people who care is it quite low. You know another company that does have some manual control when they want to be samsung used to have the note series, like the note 9, I remember, had the manual control and video pro mode, and then they quit it for a while. Now it's back, I had a pro uh note 9 for a while it was pretty cool. Although the OS was glitchy.
That was back in the day, though the OS might be less glitchy now, but yeah Samsung actually has more manual control in their video mode, which is nice to see, but I'm kind of worried about the stability of their OS because and they don't have the updates that are no they're, not johnny on the spot, with their updates the updates kind of come when they come so yeah. This is another reason why 30 frames per second is standard on both this open camera third-party app and on the Google stock. App and 30p is their default because google owns YouTube and I believe from what I've heard that 30p is kind of the default frame rate um for everything on YouTube, even when it's in a 50 hertz country like a pal country- and I think the reason is that all the displays- all the screens are 60 hertz, like all the cell phones, are 60hz. All the computer screens are 60 hertz, so when they do their conversion, I think 30p is just the easiest thing to work with. So I think that's why google defaults to 30p.
I think it somehow converts everything to 30p in the end so yeah, it's 24p has a cool look to it, so just 25p, but you just want to make your life easier, shoot, 30p and just use a camera. That's got the least amount of manual control possible because another thing with making an app like a video app with a lot of manual control or a lot of like detailed control. His glitches problems just harder to make it stable. So even this thing, which has a lot of control, there's more to go wrong. That's why the stock app! You know it's not perfect! It sucks for control, but damn it gets the job done like you can count on.
There's a lot to be said for that.
