Galaxy S20 FE revisit: 8 months later By Android Police

So in this video we're taking a look at the galaxy s20 Fe in our last video, we took another look at the Pixel 4a. If you haven't seen that one yet make sure you check it out after this video. Of course, I think it's been really cool to see manufacturers dive into this phone category more and more, the category of budget friendly phones that don't leave out a lot compared to their premium counterparts, the category of phones that has shed more light on the fact that you don't have to spend flagship level cache to get a taste of flagship level, power features and user experience. You got google and their pixel, a phone OnePlus and their t, phones, Samsung and their handful of wallet friendly options that already exist, but now you've got the Fe line. Fe standing for fan edition. Do you remember the Galaxy Note 7, I'm sure you do I loved that phone and so did a lot of other people? I'm assuming you know what happened with the note 7 right.

Basically, it got recalled. Samsung took their remaining note, 7 units refurbished them and released those. As the note Fe around a year later for those that loved the note 7 and wanted to get their hands on one that didn't go boom, it was a very specific target audience. Hence, the name fast-forward to fall.2020 Samsung drops the s20 Fe, and you could see that they felt that they were onto something years ago, because now the Fe line is here to stay. Of course, this fan edition isn't nearly as close to the flagship s20s.

As the note Fe was to the note 7. , I mean the biggest difference between those two was the slightly smaller battery in the Fe regardless I love this move, and I'm glad Samsung is keeping the Fe around phones that retain some of the best parts of the higher end models in a package. That's a fraction of the price alright, so the s20 Fe was already a win when it came out. In fact, a good number of people considered it the phone of the year and for good reason. This spec sheet speaks for itself now when it launched it started at 700.

As of this video, however, you can find it for around 500 bucks or fewer on sites like Amazon, eBay and swap and closer to 400 flat. If you go the used route now, as you can see, this phone has a lot of going for it and there really isn't anything you could say it lacks. It. Even has a micro SD card slot, something the galaxy s21s. Don't have this phone checks a lot of boxes now, of course, the design is very, very basic, but that's not a bad thing.

It's got a flat display. The camera module is simple. The back of the phone has good curvature, which makes it pretty comfortable to hold. The back is also made of glass stick. Yes, that means what you think it means, and it's got an aluminum frame.

Nothing crazy! Nothing! Super premium, just a straightforward, boxy super premium build that works. Performance is still good as it should be, especially after just eight months, but I do have confidence that it'll remain good long term with the specs that we just saw. These should keep this phone running well, as the years go on. Having said that, there are some concerns with heating and battery consumption, mainly when mobile data is on thanks to the 865 processor and the external 5g modem during heavy use. I did experience some extra warmth, nothing that flattens performance or battery consumption, but just be sure to keep that in mind with 865 devices.

Overall, during my revisit, I was more than happy with what I got, especially with that 120 hertz, refresh rate insert chef's kiss here, and the phone basically crushed everything I put it through. The battery lasted me through a day no problem. With light to moderate use, I was getting anywhere between 6 and 7 hours of screen on time, with some juice left before heading to bed and up to 6 hours of screen on time, with heavy maxed out use with the need to start charging by the time, or before I head to bed. Results will vary among users. Of course.

Now the haptics could definitely be better. My goodness, I would love if this phone had the same haptics as the note 10 plus. That would be amazing. The speakers are good, they're crisp, and they get nice and loud. You can tweak the audio with the built-in Dolby Atmos software, which is neat.

The fingerprint scanner works. Well, no complaints. Here I do wish the volume rocker was placed either a little lower or, on the left-hand side. It's not a huge deal, though the display is great.1080P at 6.5 inches may not sound all that amazing, but it looks just fine to me. It's clean, it's colorful, it's flat, so it's a little easier to use and I, like it, it's a Samsung panel.

The cameras are real, solid they're, not the best, obviously, and they're, not extremely phenomenal, especially by today's standards. But what you're getting is a very versatile set of cameras, good for just about every situation that still push out very nice quality. You even get 4k video recording at 60 frames per second and 4k at 30 frames per second on each of the sensors. Now, unlike the Pixel 4a, where you get the bare essentials with little to no luxury, the s20 Fe comes loaded with all kinds of stuff. Of course, you get the in-display fingerprint scanner which works well, like I said: ip68 certification, reverse wireless charging, expandable storage and all the many software features packed into one UI.

As I said before, this phone has a lot of going for it, so while it most definitely cannot out do any higher end phone in one particular area, it does pretty much everything you'd want a smartphone to do really well, on top of everything that I've already mentioned, you've got software update, promises from Samsung we're talking three new android versions and four years of security patches, starting from release. Now, who knows when this phone will get android 12, but at least we know it's getting it all in all. The s20 Fe is a great option in 2021, with its main competitor being the OnePlus 8t. This is one of the best all-around devices pound for pound. It comes in a lot of really cool colors too.

By the way, this phone had a significant influence, seeing as how the s21 has a lot of the s20 Fe in it. So to speak. This line of phones is here to stay.
