Hi there, it’s Lukasz for the Tech Travel Geeks, and today we’ll do a quick unboxing and review of a flip case I’ve been using with my Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G for the last couple of months - the Foluu case I got on Amazon, so let’s have a look. The case came in an envelope-like packaging from Amazon, and inside, we got a wee cardboard box with a transparent window showing off the case itself. If you’ve seen any of my past Foluu unboxings, you’ll probably remember the thought-provoking slogans “Fashion. Elegant. Smart. Well Fit Your Mobile”.
Luckily, their cases have always outperformed their copywriting skills, so I’ll just smile and move on. Let’s see what’s inside. Well, other than some plastic inside, it’s just the case itself. As you can see, there’s some styrofoam to keep the shape of the case while it’s in transport, so let’s get rid of that. There’s also a white sticker inside, and I initially wanted to get rid of it, but then decided not to, in order to avoid the inside being too sticky with the glue from the case.
When the phone is inside, you can’t see it anyway, so I just kept it there, no problems. On the left, there’s a wallet with three pockets for the cards, one with a transparent window, and a long pocket behind it, if you need to keep some banknotes or something larger. I personally don’t use it though, so can’t speak about it too much. This case comes with a magnetic clamp on the side. Unfortunately, it’s not ideal for this device, as it covers the side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Since that’s one of my favourite features on most recent Xiaomi devices, I wasn’t too happy, but at the time when I got this case, there weren’t any other flip cases without that strip. Checking Amazon almost 3 months later, I can see that Foluu now offers flip cases without the magnetic strip, for just £9.99, and you can get them in black, grey, blue, gold or rose. If you get a chance, I’d go with one of those instead. I’ll leave links to both in the description below. I actually have a very similar case for my POCO F3, and it works great, I’ll soon do a video on that as well.
Back to this case, you get the usual cut outs - at the bottom for the speaker, microphone and the USB-C port, on the side you have covers for the volume up and down buttons, and they work quite well, and at the top, you have the second microphone and the IR blaster holes. Nothing on the side. The back has only one single square hole for the cameras and no branding - actually, there’s no branding here whatsoever, which I guess is fine from the user’s perspective. But let’s get the phone inside and see how it fits. It actually fits in quite snuggly, no problems at all, and it still works fine after almost 3 months of using it.
Taking it out takes a moment, but that’s to be expected - it’s better to make a bit of an effort to take it out than risking the phone falling out and getting damaged. The case does add quite a bit of weight to the device though, weighing around 50 grams, so you have to bear that in mind. The Mi 11 Lite 5G is known for being one of the lightest and thinnest devices available, and you’ll lose some of those benefits because of that case. It’s entirely up to your personal preferences. I personally really like the protection cases provide, and more importantly, the fact that they can be used as a phone stand when watching videos.
To me, phones have two main functions - as cameras and for consuming content, mostly on YouTube. I constantly move around the house and, whenever I’m cooking, making tea or similar, I usually just put the phone on the kickstand and let the videos play in the background, whether I’m watching tech videos, web development tutorials or music videos. This case is actually really good, as the phone barely moves thanks to the wallet area, which is not slippery at all. Here, this case wins with the POCO F3’s case, which is quite slippery on the inside, so the screen is not always in the most optimal position. All’s good with this case though, so I’m really happy that it performs its main function really well.
No other complaints from me - the case hasn’t lost its shape, unlike some of my other cases, feels good in the hand and works fine. The only issue I have with it is the magnetic strip, so if you get a choice, I’d recommend picking a case without it. That’s it for today, hope you found this video helpful.
