Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey, so today, I'm here to talk about the bike, race, passport and yeah. I love this phone, so many people love this phone. In fact, when I go into talking about a lot of my different blackberry phones and talk about the classic talk about the bold talk about the curve, the pearl, the storm, all these great blackberry phones, this is usually the most talked about. One- and sometimes I wonder well- is that because of like it's like the most recent major phone that they had or is it because people just love this phone so much, and I think it's a little of both. Of course. Yes, the blackberry passport was one of the last major phones that they made, and it's of course, the unique by, like any stretch of the imagination, the all touch screen, gesture based OS, all that great stuff and, of course, the physical keyboard and also capacitive features and stuff like that.
But I want to look at this from a 2021 perspective. We know that there's a new blackberry coming soon it's supposed to come out this year, blackberry working through ombre mobility with the licensing agreement. They said it's going to be here, the first half of 2021. We're still waiting, but a lot of people are like. I want a passport too.
I want to passport two I want to know. Furthermore, I want another passport running android, so that got me to thinking how well would this form factor actually hold up in 2021? Is this phone, something that would work out really well today or would there have to be some changes? And I want to talk about that in this video, but before we get into all that, I do want to say if this is your first time stopping by the channel. I appreciate you being here if you enjoyed the video, please hit the like and the subscribe button and little notification bell if you want updates when new videos come out now, let's take a look at the passport in 2021, so here we are with the passport and, yes largely, I think a lot of things on this phone could stay intact, largely because the phone is so large. When you talk about going back to a classic, we talk about going back to a bold, an 8900. Whatever phone you talk about, going back to even a q10, a z10, whatever they're much smaller, like very small footprints, 3.1-inch screens 3.5-inch screens. So when we talk about the blackberry passport and things that it would need in 2021, it's actually missing a lot like.
Yes, it's got a great keyboard. It's got a nice screen all that jazz, but there are a lot of modern smartphone features that it's missing for one it doesn't have a fingerprint sensor. You would have to find somewhere to add that in here, so ideally, you could just use the space bar like they did with the key one. The key two, the key to LE- I think that would be a good fit here. It doesn't make much sense to put one on the back or in the display, because you've got the physical keyboard here, they've proven they can do it with the space bar.
It would be kind of weird to be doing that number or trying to put it on the back here like holding the phone. You couldn't even do that, so it would need a fingerprint sensor. It would also need facial recognition technology. I think that that's something that blackberry needs. The blackberries have not had that before no blackberry has had that before, so, not even the key to so, they would need to add facial recognition technology in here.
They would also need to put a larger camera, and that's where I would start to worry about the current form factor of the passport. You see it's actually pretty sleek, and it's pretty slick, especially compared to some of the newer phones that we have out. I mean there are some pretty big phones nowadays. So, taking a look at this, there's a pretty big lens on the back here already for the camera, that's in place, but it's only a primary shooter there's, no ultra-wide. There's no depth sensor, there's no macro camera, so you would have to change up the landscape back here and probably what you would have to do here is change some form factor to accommodate all these things, especially a bigger battery.
When we're talking about a flagship power performance on a phone now we're talking like 8 series, snapdragon processor, those use a lot of battery to get all the battery. We would need at least a 4500mah battery in the phone, so this one, I think, would probably have to get a little fatter, or you would have to adjust the form factor, and I even wonder would this still be the right size for 2021? Could we make it bigger? And I've talked about this before with like kind of what I would like to see when it comes to a new blackberry? I, like the four row keyboard. This one has a three row which is fine. A lot of people love the passport. It worked for this phone, but if we're going to talk about modernizing it, if that's something that we would want to see or if it's even feasible, I think that would have to change some, because we need to accommodate these new features.
We need to accommodate the new hardware, the 5g antenna, all that good stuff. It's not all going to fit in this housing, and you're going to lose some things like you probably won't have room for the headphone jack anymore. Where are you going to put a wireless charging coil things like that? So I think that we would actually have to make this a baby a little taller and, I would dare say, maybe even slightly wider now we could probably keep it with the same width, but maybe make it about this tall, and I had talked about that before. I would like to see a blackberry classic. That's made wider and taller so that you can get the four row keyboard experience, but also get more screen real estate and does the one to one aspect: ratio still work anymore? Does the square screen fit in 2021 I mean: could we work with this a little, so those are just some things that I was thinking about that we would need to do to bring this into the modern age.
I mean this phone is definitely showing some signs of wear it's dated it's been around for a while. It still works great with blackberry, 10. It's such a good operating system. I hate to see it go. I hate to see the end of life coming for the operating system in January 2022, but that's an unfortunate reality of blackberry 10.
The new Blackbeard is going to be running android and then also. How would this work with android? Fortunately, we don't have to look too far for that answer, because this is already all it's all swipe gesture based and that's funny, because back in the day when blackberry 10 came out, it was ridiculed. So many media and tech outlets were like. This is terrible. Its unintuitive people can't use this.
They need their buttons and now look at apple. Look at android they're all running a swipe gesture based OS. So I think that the form factor itself. I think this is a winning design, but I think we would have to maybe make a little longer. I would love to see the fourth row of keys on there, and then we need the fingerprint sensor.
We need the facial recognition. We need wireless charging, we need a flagship camera. Furthermore, we need our cameras, we need more cameras, so we can enjoy the ability to use our phone. Just like everybody else and then also you know, maybe, maybe stretch out the aspect ratio on here a little not be completely square which it works. I mean it do I'm not saying make it thinner, but maybe make it taller that way we still get the 60 characters across, but we also get a little larger experience there.
For you know social media for playing. You know videos watching YouTube lots of different things that don't really fit the one-to-one aspect ratio. So those are just some thoughts that I had regarding the blackberry passport, which I think this was the perfect phone at the perfect time for blackberry 10, and I think that we could draw some things from this and learn moving forward. If this were to be a working design. I would love to see anything, of course, that blackberry would come out with at this point in time, and I don't necessarily think that the new phone is going to be a passport style phone, but I was just sitting around.
I thought you know what. How would this work today like? What would we need to do to bring the passport into 2021 to make it just as relevant as it was when it came out, but also future-proof and also give everybody the features that they want, and they expect in a new phone new phones like we're, talking, gorilla, glass, six, we're talking wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, ip68 dust and water resistance, quad, HD, plus resolution higher refresh rates. I mean there's a lot of stuff which, yes, I know, there's going to be a lot of people saying you don't need that you don't need that. You don't need that. You don't need that.
Well, yeah, that's very true! But looking at the landscape and trying to sell a phone in 2021, these are kind of things that you need to have in a phone, because not only is it about the people who love blackberry, but it's about trying to get new people. So if you go into a store and say hey, I want to get the new blackberry and then like. Well, it doesn't have this. It doesn't have this. It doesn't have this.
Furthermore, it doesn't have this well they're, going to walk over and pick up a Samsung they're going to walk over and pick up an iPhone. So you need to have these modern smartphone appealing characteristics and features to move products so that people will want to pick them up. So that's just kind of what I was thinking about when it comes to the blackberry passport, go ahead and sound off in the comments section. If you have your own ideas or things that you think the new blackberry would need to have in it to be relevant, especially looking at the passport in 2021 and thankfully yes, it's still able to be used in some capacity for those of you who are still carrying the passport torch. I salute you, I'm glad that you still enjoy your phone.
This one right here is a legendary phone whenever it comes to blackberry, and I love the passport, so that's just kind of I was thinking about it. I was messing around with it and by the way I do have LTE 4g LTE on here with Google phi, if anyone's still wondering what you can use it on, if you're having problems with a t, google phi works. So that's all I've got if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them down in the comment section I'll get back with you.
