White iPhone 12 Mini Unboxing, Size Comparison & Impressions! By Brandon Butch

What's up guys, my name is Brandon, and today we're going to be unboxing. The brand-new white iPhone 12 mini we're also going to be running through the setup process, comparing it to other phones in terms of the size, and I'm going to give you my overall first impressions of this device, and this is actually the smallest face, id iPhone. That apple has ever made, and I think it's going to go on to become a perfect seller, which we'll talk about here in a little so anyways taking a look around the box, you can see it's a pretty small box and this is how it compares to the iPhone 12 Pro max. So pretty massive difference in the overall package size of the iPhone 12 mini. We just have regular iPhone on the side, it doesn't say, 12 mini or anything like that, and then you can see down here the exact spec that we got. I went ahead with the white 64 gigabytes, so this is a very easy package to open as well.

You don't need a knife: let's go ahead and pull that peel tab right there and there we go. There's the plastic. Now, let's take off the top, and there is our iPhone 12 mini so wow yeah. This thing is small. This really reminds me just in the hand before I even flip it over of the iPhone SE 2020.

It feels very similar in the hand to that. That's my overall first impression of that. But man, I love the white color. This is definitely you know one of my top two favorites this year here is the black on the iPhone 12. These are my two personal favorite colors white and black.

I know pretty boring, but they are the cleanest. In my opinion, we'll talk more about the size comparison here in a moment. Let's go and take the screen off, so there we go, and that is the screen of the iPhone 12 mini. It feels really weird to hold a phone in hand, this small, without a home button, because once again, it just reminds me of like those older phones like the iPhone SE, the original iPhone SE and the 2020 iPhone. Se, so we'll cover that more here in a second, but in the box we also get our USB to lightning cable.

Now we do not get a charging block in the box just like we did not get for any iPhone 12 this year and, as you can see, we get our pamphlet of papers right here, and we also get a mini apple sticker right there. So it's not really too many, but it is smaller than some others and of course we don't get any ear pods as well, so no AirPods or power adapter, just like with all other iPhone 12. So we can go ahead and set this box over to the side. Let's go ahead and boot up this iPhone 12 mini and compare the size to some other phones. So this is the first generation iPhone SE over here on the left.

This is from 2016, and you can see the size difference here. It's dead right now, but just taking a look at the size, just the overall body you can see they are very similar in size. Now the iPhone SE. The original one is smaller, of course, and of course it does have the home button and all those bezels. So the screen is going to be much smaller, but they're very similar in hand.

I mean they feel about the same in terms of weight. The iPhone 12 mini is a little heavier, but really not by much. You'd really have to feel to be able to tell they feel very similar in the hand and then comparing it to the 2020 iPhone SE. You can see that the 2020 iPhone SE is bigger than the iPhone 12 mini. It's just taller.

Of course the 12 mini will have a bigger display, just because we don't have those bezels like we had or the home button like. We had on the iPhone SE- and here is the back. So I did get both of these in white, and you could see a very big difference in the tone of white. So we have more of like a pearl white on the SE and more of like a cream white on the iPhone 12 mini, but you can see the difference in size. There definitely smaller than the iPhone SE because see in terms of thickness.

It seems like the iPhone 12 mini is a little thicker, but that could just be because of the design, the squared off edges, but nonetheless, they feel very similar in hand. Besides the edges, of course, the iPhone SC does have those rounded edges, so it does feel a little different in the hand compared to the iPhone 12 mini now, comparing it to the regular iPhone 12. You can see the difference here in the screen size and everything like that. Even the regular iPhone 12- and this is going to be the same for the 12 pro as well- looks a lot bigger than the iPhone 12 mini. So that is the front that is the screen comparison right there.

Of course, we have just a 5.4 inch OLED display here on the 12 mini, so that is again. The smallest face ID device that apple has ever created. Here is a difference on the back, so you can see I can pretty much fit. You know almost the whole phone over the regular iPhone 12 here and taking a look at the difference in size between the smallest iPhone with face ID and the biggest iPhone just overall, the iPhone 12 Pro max. So here's how the 12 mini looks next to the 12 pro max massive difference.

This almost looks like the father. This looks like the sun, so big difference in size between these two. You can pretty much fit the 12 mini on the iPhone 12 Pro max. If it weren't for the camera array, sticking out you would be able to, but you can see there big difference in terms of the overall size of the screens. You can see they are the difference in that so pretty noticeable difference as expected, the biggest versus the smallest, but that is how they look side by side and if you guys want to see any more size comparisons or anything like that.

Let me know down in the comment section below, but let's go ahead and run through a quick setup process on the new iPhone 12 mini. Now this is the 64 gigabyte model which costs 7.29. You could also get it in 128 and 256 for 779 and then 879 for the 256. , so not too expensive, but also not too cheap. If you go ahead and get like the 128 or the 256, which would be what I would recommend now taking a closer look at the iPhone 12 minis design and display, we do have those squared off edges just like we do with the iPhone 12 and 12 pro and once again, this thing is very light in the hand we do have the 5.4 inch OLED display. So this is going to be the exact same display that we have on the iPhone 12 12 pro and 12 pro max.

Of course, we do have a little lower of a max brightness, so the max brightness is going to be slightly lower on the 12 mini compared to the 12 pro and pro max and just looking around the body. You can see that those bezels are definitely shrunk this year, and it really shows, I think, more than any other phone. Let me pull up the iPhone 12 here. The bezels just look so much smaller on the 12-minute yeah I mean look at those bezels on the side. They are just much less prominent on the 12 mini.

Of course. That is because it has that tiny 5.4 inch display, but still the bezels look really, really small, and even the notch just looks really, really small. So I really like the look of that. Even though this is a smaller device, you can still tell a difference now. Another thing that I noticed on the iPhone 12 minis body is that on the bottom, where these speakers are, you can see that we have six speakers on the bottom, whereas on the iPhone, 12 and 12 pro, we have eight speakers on the bottom, but of course everything else around the body is going to look the same so anyways.

Let's go ahead and run through this setup process. Again, let's finish this, so we will have to do face ID once again. We do have face ID on the mini this year, so we're just going to have to do a couple of scans now, if you guys want to see a full setup process for the iPhone 12 mini, including transferring over all data from an old phone to the iPhone 12 mini. I will have that video linked up in the cards and down in the description I already made that video here on the channel, but for now we're going to do don't transfer we're going to set this up as new I'm going to go ahead and log into my Apple ID I'm imagining that these did not ship with iOS 14.2. So we probably will have a software update once we go into the phone, so we're going to go ahead and just continue with all this just quickly run through this, and I do want to check by the way if we did get that software update.

So let's go ahead and see, so we are inside the iPhone 12 mini now and taking a look at the about section right here. We are on yes 14.1, so we will have a software update right once you unbox your iPhone at 12 mini as you can see there, iOS 14.2, and it is a pretty small download. So 1.11 gigabytes is what it's going to be on your iPhone 12 mini. So just keep that in mind. Once you get it, you will want to go ahead and update to 14.2. You get new emojis new wallpapers, and things like that.

It is definitely a great update if you want to see everything new in that update. I did also make a video on that. You can find that up in the cards and down in the description below but anyways. I want to go ahead and run a quick, geek bench 5 test on the 12 minute to see what kind of scores we're getting here and how it compares to maybe some other phone. So let me go ahead and run this, and I will be right back all right.

So we just finished the geek bench test and I just want to point out before we talk about the results that the iPhone 12 mini did not get as hot as I felt on other phones before which kind of surprised me. So that is, you know, good news for the iPhone 12 mini. Of course, I will talk a lot more about that in my full in-depth review, but that's just my first impression, but you can see there the geek bench scores. We got a 1507 for the single core and a 2477 for multi-core and comparing that to the iPhone 12, the regular iPhone 12 over here we got a 1606 and a 40 96, so much higher scores on the regular iPhone 12. But of course both of these do have the same chip inside we have the a14 bionic, so pretty interesting there.

But of course we are still indexing and things like that on the iPhone 12 mini. Also, we are on two separate versions, so 14.2 the latest version on the 12 and 14.1 on the 12 mini. So once you update to 14.2, you could also see some performance improvements here on the 12 mini now. Of course, we do get 5g and things like that with the iPhone 12 mini as well. You get pretty much all the same features that you get on the regular iPhone 12.

That means we do also get support for the MagSafe charger. Of course, we do have that glass back, so you can get apple's new MagSafe charger to wirelessly charge your iPhone 12 mini here, and it sticks pretty well, as you can see there, it is magnetic because we do have that magnetic ring inside the mini here, and then I did also want to change the wallpapers, because we do get new wallpapers with the iPhone 12s. So you can see here under the live section. All of these are new, and they are color coordinated as well to the iPhone that you got. So this is going to be the one for the white iPhones.

So we're going to set that- and I think this wallpaper looks much better than the one that it comes with so go ahead and do that right away as well, but anyways guys that's pretty much it for the iPhone 12 mini very small device. Honestly, I don't think it's too small to use on a daily basis. I thought it would actually feel smaller in the hand, but I actually could see myself using this on a daily basis, so very interesting, and I will talk, of course, a lot more about the iPhone 12 mini in upcoming videos. I will also be doing a battery test to see how the battery compares to the 12, the 12 pro the 12 pro max and previous iPhones as well, so definitely stay tuned. For that video.
