Many 5G phones are now available under 15K Rs & realme 8 5G was the first 5G phone under 15K. This was launched back in April & we’ve used it for quite a long time. I wanted to know if this is just a 5G phone or an all round phone that you can buy. This is our long term review after using it for 45-50 days. Base variant of realme 8 5G i. e 4GB/64GB = 13999 Rs, 4GB/128GB = 14999 Rs & 8GB/128 GB = 17999 Thanks to realme for removing the dare to leap branding from this phone, as this looks very premium & doesn’t look like a 14K phone although it has a plastic back.
The edges of the phone are flat so it fits well in our hands. This is a slim phone with 8.5 mm thickness making the in hand feel much better. Generally 5G phones are slightly bulky because of the 5G antennas but this isn't that bulky even with a 5000 mAh battery & also it weighs around 185 grams so it's nice. Performance - It's equipped with Dimensity 700 5G SoC & it supports 7 5G bands so it's more future proof. The Dimensity 700 5G isn't just a budget 5G SoC but it also performs well.
We’ve played a lot of games for more than a month & you can play on medium to high settings without any issues, it also doesn't have any major heating problem And we were pleasantly surprised with the performance of Dimensity 700 5G SoC. It is based on a 7nm process so it's also battery efficient. The 5000 mAh battery will easily last you for 1 day with moderate usage & 18W charging is decent for this price. One more thing, the display comes with a 90 Hz fast refresh rate & this makes your gaming experience much better along with 180 Hz touch sampling rate. To try the performance, we opened 25-30 apps at once & most of them were in the RAM memory as it has DRE Dynamic RAM Extension Means this will dynamically increase the RAM based on your usage & performance.
So this is quite good. It comes with some bloatware apps that can be uninstalled. Talking about the experience of realme UI 2.0 - it is really good & we didn’t experience any major bugs in the software in our long term usage. This has an additional SD card slot so you can expand the storage further. Cameras - It has a triple camera setup 48MP+2MP+2MP that takes some good photos.
It lacks an ultrawide lens & overall the camera performs average. Photos from the primary lens come out decent & on front you get a 16 MP selfie camera that takes good quality selfies. Low light photos are everage & they dont have much detail while zooming in on the photos. After the recent camera update the camera output has definitely improved a lot but there is still scope for improvement. Display - It has 6.5’’ FHD+ 90 Hz LCD screen & it is quite bright with good colors. You’ll enjoy the multimedia experience on this display, viewing angles aren't that great as it has a LCD panel but overall the display is good.
With a combination of good display + realme UI you get a refined experience. Connectivity - It has a good cellular reception but it misses out on noise cancelling microphone & also it doesn’t support carrier aggregation. At a starting the price 14K performance is the biggest highlight with 7G bands, big 5000 mAh battery With 90 Hz display this phone is big on display, big on performance & big on battery.
Some things might have gotten better, like cameras. Hope it’ll improve with future updates. So overall realme 8 5G performs really great for the price & I don't have any problems recommending this phone. As I said, this is absolutely worth the money.
