Next stop iPhone Apple unveiled three new iPhones, p88, plus and X, or iPhone 10, for the first time at its new Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino California. The keynote creates all this hype and gets people excited about its new products and now Apple has to deliver a bazillion iPhones all around the world in a week after having kept it secret for months and the person who's responsible for getting all these iPhones in stores and shipped to your home is Angela Aaron's head of retail, who is also by the way Apple's most senior woman, and that's why we think of Apple retail as Apple's largest products, and it all begins at midnight, September 15th, when the pre-order starts, it's 11, o 9 p. m. in about an hour, I'm gonna, be in a nondescript building in Sunnyvale California, where the Apple retail team is, and the parking lot is completely full. Last Thursday I was in the war room with all of those engineers as they flipped on the pre-order switch. Can you explain what we saw and what was happening there yeah? Absolutely so what 12:01 a.
m. it's uh? We always it's a very exciting day, because there are tens of millions of people who have the Apple Store app and over the years, they've understood that that's actually one of the fastest ways. Because they've already gotten all set up ahead of time, so with a fingerprint at 12:01, they're done, and so, so over half of the orders that night will come in through the Apple Store app. So we turn the whole world at once. I think you saw the map with everything lighting up all the new world, then after everyone throws their money at Apple for their new iPhones Angela then goes on a hype, tour visiting multiple retail stores and pumping up her teams on the ground ahead of launch day.
We followed her to her hometown Indianapolis and Louisville Kentucky over last week, and then we hit the road the day after, so we've been in New York the last couple of days, and we're here, and we're going on to Memphis in Louisville and Atlanta and DC and all week long just hitting as many stores as we can just to you know, share with everybody, the energy and the excitement to understand what it really means to prepare for iPhone launch day, we visited one of the biggest distribution points in the world for the iPhone, the UPS World port facility in Louisville, which receives its cargo and planes carrying apples and precious devices from their factories in China. The volume is so large. Apple is at a big customer, but you can set aside a special time to sort while we were there. We saw not just friends but miles of conveyor belts, worth of happens, Apple watches, all of which are slated to arrive in stores and in your home. Tomorrow, therefore, must be news in the UK open behind me is the Apple Store, where tomorrow they're launching the iPhone age, there's no line up, yet there doesn't seem to be much of hue outside, as they normally would be at these events and unsurprising, because generally first people love queuing to be fair.
It is raining in LA and when that happens, the city kind of shuts down, but then at 10:00 a. m. it opens to the public, and the employees have told me that they are expecting a bit of a lie, but maybe they're waiting I put eyes on X. You know, we've enabled you to have choice, so we have to give you that choice. You know, I, don't want to be told what I have to do.
I want a choice on everything where I want to buy where I want it shipped. You know everything it's kind of our fault, we've empowered, the consumer right, and so we have to evolve every part of that journey to make sure that we continue to empower the consumer wherever they come to asset. My humble vision.
