The Z Flip 5G Is Not An Upgrade... 5 Things That I Don’t Like

Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey, so I'm back with another video on the Samsung Galaxy z flip, which I like a lot. If you've seen some of my previous videos, you've seen that I've covered it, you know that I'm a fan of the folding phone, I really like the z-flip, but there are some criticisms that I have for some things that maybe for the next go around. I would like to see improvements, because I wish that they would have incorporated them into this phone. Now. That's not saying that. I don't like this phone.

I like this phone a lot, but there are some things that I think could have been a little better now before we get into that. Furthermore, I do want to say if this is your first time stopping by the channel. Furthermore, I appreciate you being here if you enjoy the video please hit the like and the subscribe button and the little notification bell if you want updates when new videos come out now, let's talk about the z, flip 5g, all right straight out of the gate. Furthermore, I think my first criticism of this phone is kind of has to do with the name itself. The 5g see when this phone came out.

They could have put the snapdragon 865 in it and had a 5g antenna in here. Clearly they haven't made any changes to it. It looks exactly the same. It has the same screen. Furthermore, it has the same speaker.

Furthermore, it has the same battery so to make a phone and sell it for 1380 dollars and then just a short four or five months later come out with a 5g model and charge 1449 for it. That kind of irks me. I wish that it had been an actual legitimate upgrade and not just a hey. We threw a new processor in it and gave you 5g you're. Welcome here's the matte finish.

I hope it's worth the 69, so that's the first thing that I'm not really crazy about. I really like the z flip, and there are some improvements in here I mean the snapdragon 865 plus, is legitimately better than the 855 plus. You can tell it's a little snappier, but the other thing that you kind of get with that Segways into my next problem. So the second thing that I don't like is that it still has too small of a battery. The z flip would get me till about seven o'clock, 7 30 in the evening, and then I would have to put it on the charger.

So I could get through the rest of my evening, which I'm mostly okay with it will get me through the work day, but it won't get me through an entire day. Maybe it will for you, but not for me in this new one. They put essentially a bigger engine under the hood, and they put a bigger antenna on it so with the snapdragon 865 plus and with the 5g antenna that uses more juice. So, if you're going to put, if you're going to put hardware in here that uses more juice, you need to put more juice in it and with the 3 300 ml amp battery. I feel that what was kind of just good enough is probably a kosher down from that now.

Maybe it'll be okay, but I'm still waiting for the battery to break in the adaptive battery. Learn my patterns behaviors and stuff, so it can optimize the battery and how it uses energy in my phone, but they really needed to put a bigger battery in here if they even went to 3500 3600, something just incrementally bigger to offset the addition of the 5g antenna and the snapdragon 865 plus. I really wish that they would have done that because this phone needs more battery. So the next thing is the cameras. They didn't change the cameras at all.

Now it has two 12 megapixel cameras on the back, which are not quite even as good as the s10. Here we are, we've got the s10, that's come out. We had the note 10 that came out. We had the s20 that came out now we have the note 20, and they didn't put new cameras in this. So these cameras are still basically kind of like two years old, and you can tell I mean that it takes capable handy pictures.

It's all right, but it's nothing to write home about if you're going to spend fifteen hundred dollars on the phone, because here we are 1449 MSRP, throw in tax on top of that you're talking about a 1600 phone, basically, so for them not to put better cameras in here, I feel is a little unfair to us who are buying it. Now they work okay, they're, not the greatest in the world, they're, not the worst in the world, but when you have three generations, basically of phones that they've had that have come out over the last year and a half, you think they could have taken one of those cameras and thrown it in here. So that is my criticism. Number three, the fourth criticism and the thing that I don't like about this phone is: it only has one single downward firing, speaker all the other Samsung phones from the s10 and on have dual speakers where the sound comes out of the headset. The handset speaker up here up top, and it also comes out down at the bottom, but of course they also have larger batteries.

So I imagine that the reason that it only has one speaker instead of stereo speakers is because they were trying to save battery. Of course, you don't necessarily have to have stereo sound and, if you're using earbuds, it's really not that big of a deal, but it doesn't even come with earbuds when you open the box, it just comes with the phone, the battery cable and the charging brick. There are no earbuds, there's no case in there. Even at least the z-flip original one had a case in there, and I think people said it might have had earbuds. That's not even on the list of top five things.

I don't like about the phone, but it is something that kind of irks me. So the sound experience is not necessarily bad, but it's not as good as I think that it could be, and I really think that they just handicapped it with one speaker because they didn't have the juice to push both of them, which kind of makes sense, because the battery is tiny. I mean come on. How many other phones do you know that are out there that have a snapdragon, 865 plus and just over a 3000 ml battery, just saying they all have very large batteries. So the last thing I want to talk about- and the last thing that I don't like about it is the price they didn't really change a lot.

I mean yeah, I granted, I guess the snapdragon 865 plus and the 5g antenna is worth an additional 69. , but they didn't really give us much of a refresh other than that. So it's not like they went back to the drawing board and said we did this. We did that we're going to change this, we're going to optimize this. It's all exactly the same other as these few things.

So I feel like having come out just a few months later. It should have probably been the same price: go ahead and drop the price on the LTE model. Just so you can kind of save some value and some face there and maybe make a better deal for people that just want to get the z flip, but don't want to spend the extra money for the 5g, because really and truly the experience that you get in this phone is not really that much different from what you get with the z flip. I know I've been using it the last few months, so I don't really think that this should have been 1449 dollars. I would have had less criticism at 1380.

Now, okay, we're going to quibble over 69 yeah, I mean I. If you're going to spend that much money I would expect. I would have expected a little more value out of it or a little more of an upgrade than just slapping the processor and the antenna in here, which really don't enhance the experience. All that much I mean you can tell a little that it's a little snappier, but at the end of the day, it's really not that much snappier, and it's really not that much of an improvement so yeah. Those are the five things, and I'm not even going to talk about the screen.

I'm not going to talk about the 1080p resolution. You have this cool folding display. I get if it's all right. Not once have I picked up my z, flip or the z-flip 5g and looked at the screen and been like. You know what I wish this was quad, HD plus and then, if it were a high resolution, it would have worse battery life.

So I'm okay with the 1080p, I'm okay with the 60 hertz, but there are some things that I really hope that they do address whenever the brand new z-flip comes out next year, which will be the actual upgrade instead of a tech refresh where they just throw a little at us under the hood with the processor and the modem and put a matte finish on it. Now I do like the matte finish, but, as you can see clearly here, it's inside a case, you want to make sure you take care of this thing, and they also include a screen protector on the screen. Now that comes pre-installed, just like the other Samsung phones. So those are the five things that I don't like about the phone that I hope that they'll address going forward. But of course the biggest one for me for next year is you've got to put a bigger battery in this thing they have to find some way to do it just so they can squeeze more life out of it and if you're looking to get one of these I'll go ahead and put some links down in the drop-down, so you can have a look at them.

The Amazon renewed one is, actually you know a couple of hundred bucks cheaper if you want to get the regular LTE model, so that's an option there and having just upgraded from the LTE model to the 5g model. If you want one of these phones just get the LTE model, there's not a lot of compelling reason. At this point in time to buy the 5g, if you can get the other one cheaper now, if you don't want to buy renewed, if you don't want to get a used one, if you don't want to look for a deal, then I would say: buy the 5g over the other one, just because it's newer it'll have a little longer warranty a little longer longevity with the 865 plus instead of last year's 855 plus. So there are some considerations there. But if you can get a good deal on the regular z, flip totally go for it because you're really not going to notice much difference and all the accessories and the cases.

Basically they all work the same as well. So anyway, that's all I've got if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them down in the comment section I'll get back with you.
