What's going on everyone welcome back to another video. This is the 1+8 pro, and I've been using it alongside the one plus eight is my Android daily driver for several weeks now, and the reviews for both of those devices are in progress. Now the OnePlus 8 pro has been making the news lately, not because it's a perfect smartphone, but because there's a certain lens on it that allows you to see through certain plastic objects and really thin clothes. So, in this video we're gonna talk about what exactly is going on with the 1+8 pros, color filter lens and what it means to you. If you happen to own a 1+8 pro, the OnePlus 8 pro introduces a camera system, that's fit for a flagship phone now. One lens in particular, is a 5 megapixel, color filter lens that allows you to take photos in one particular filter called photochromatic.
Now photochromatic is unique because, unlike other lenses, that typically block out infrared light, this particular lens allows infrared light through which can lead to some pretty dynamic photos. Now. It has also led to the ability to see, through certain plastic objects and thin pieces of clothing, and it's blown up to the point where people are now saying: the OnePlus 8 pro comes with an x-ray camera. Now that statement is both inaccurate and a little exaggerated. The short answer is yes: the OnePlus 8 pro can see through certain plastic objects, but, technically speaking, those plastic objects are already see-through through the spectrum of infrared light, so to break that down even further any object that allows infrared light to pass through can be seen through the color filter lens of the OnePlus 8 Pro, because that lens also allows infrared light to pass through.
Now it essentially stops there, though any object that is not infrared light. Permeable cannot be seen through the lens of the OnePlus 8 Pro. Now this is actually pretty cool in practice. So, if you have a 1, + 8 Pro go ahead and grab it open up the camera and turn on the photo. Chromatic mode, walk around your house and find objects.
They either have to emit infrared light like an old TV remote or have to receive infrared light for input like a cable box or an Apple TV. It's actually really cool to hover over them with your camera and be able to see right through the thin layer of plastic and see all the internals it's pretty dope. Now, when it comes to clothing, we haven't been able to replicate the same results that a lot of news articles have been able to do, but what we can tell you are, it seems, like clothes that are majority. Cotton with a little of polyester mixed in are the ones that are gonna, be transparent. Now, keep in mind, they have to be really, really thin.
Now, if you want to test this go ahead, please don't be weird about it, like to don't, try it on other people's clothes. Please try it on your own. I know that a lot of this has blown up because of potential safety concerns of other people trying to see through other people's clothes. Don't be weird about it. Just try it on your clothes.
This is how things get blown out of proportion, but if you do want to try it on your own clothes, yes, majority, cotton with a little of polyester mixed in but, like I said just don't be weird bro. Now this has raised some privacy concerns. Naturally, and it's gotten to the point where OnePlus has already disabled the photo chromatic lens on their devices running hydrogen OS. Now those are OnePlus units based in their Chinese market OnePlus units that are running oxygen. Os are not going to have the feature disabled, but they will receive an over-the-air update shortly.
That will address the privacy concerns that have now popped up with the color filter lens. To me, the color filter lens is not one of those things where it's like the make or break feature of the OnePlus 8 Pro I, really like the photos that it's capable of producing, but in the end it's still a relatively low quality, 5 megapixel sensor. So I, don't really think it's that big of a deal I just hope they don't ruin the functionality, because then it just seems like a completely wasted feature and an added cost to the device itself, but that just about does it. Let me know what you guys think of all the craziness down in the comments section below and by the way, if you guys are looking for the review on the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8, those are dropping next. So, if you haven't already make sure you subscribe guys, stay safe, and I'll catch, you guys in the next video peace, saying that they're going to be working on a software update to address privacy concerns with the color filter learned.
Why do I always mess up on that?.
