What is up guys today we're going to be talking about the Pixel 3a XL and the reason why I wanted to sort of talk about this phone again is because it got a pretty interesting price, slash uh here. So if we go on Amazon, you can see the price has come down to around 158 right now, which I was pretty um. I was like wow, that's a pretty good deal, and then you have some that's even you know 142 for Verizon and for the refurbished one so um. When I picked this phone up, I thought it was pretty good after it got the android um 11 updates it fixed a lot of the performance issues as far as bouncing in and out of applications scrolling uh you pretty much, don't have that that sort of lag and stutter like you did uh with that android 10 version. So that's why I was telling people android 11 did a really great job on this phone in particular. So um, you know still the highlight with this phone is definitely still the camera which we'll talk about uh.
But one of the things that uh stands out to me is the design. I think the design still looks pretty solid on this phone um, at least from the back. So it's still got a really nice matte plastic finish. It is just a plastic phone and then you kind of have like a two-tone soft plastic right here, and then we have our physical fingerprint scanner which works fine, and then we have a really cool orange little power button right here: volume, rockers and um, it's from the front of the phone design wise. As you can see, it's got big chunky, bezels and stuff, like that.
That's the only thing that um, I think, hasn't aged that. Well, even when this phone first came out uh for its time, I thought the bezels were a little big um. But if you look at the know, newer pixel phones, uh, they're, slowly, they've been slowly over the years uh. You know really making the design a lot better so really like that, but uh definitely design wise. It's a pretty decent looking phone.
I don't really have any issues, not the best looking but decent. Looking. I do still feel like the highlight with this phone is definitely the camera um. So the camera situation. I guess the only thing that has age with the camera situation is that it only has one lens, but it is still a very, very good camera, especially at this price point.
I don't think you'll find a phone for 150 dollars, um that is going to take better. You know stills in this, so you don't have an ultrawide or a macro, but as far as like stills uh in the selfie, I think that this wins hands down. It takes a very good picture, so it's just a 12.2 megapixel uh lens it shoots in 4k, uh video. You also have an 8 megapixel selfie that shoots in 1080p and, as you can see from the pictures, the picture just come out very, very good, very good color uh, very good natural colors, which I was really happy with pretty good uh detail on here. Skin tones are always pretty uh on point.
You also get a good depth of field with the blur and um yeah. Dynamic range is perfect on here. You don't get uh, really any overexposure uh issues here um. I really like the cameras on uh this phone, even in sort of like a lower light. Um setting this phone does pretty good.
It does uh better than most phones around this price range. So if you want a cheap phone, that's going to take some pretty good photos. This phone is really in a class all of its own. Now this one still has a pretty high quality display on here. It's actually an OLED display at six inches, so it is kind of fairly compact, something that I really like it's very colorful as well.
It's a 1080p panda with 402 for the PPI overall, I had no issues with the panel on here. I actually think it's a really nice looking panel. It gets fairly bright outdoors as well, so no issues here and again for this price point uh, you know most phones, you would get like an IPS display, you're getting very nice and vibrant, very dark blacks, and you do have that always on display function on here as well. So I do really like uh the display on here. I think it's fine uh.
Definitely for this price point, like I said, most phones are going to be IPS um. This is an Olay, and it looks perfect, very colorful, pretty good viewing angles as well. So, overall, I was really happy still with the display on here. I still think it looks uh pretty solid, so you've got a snapdragon 670 processors on here, arena 615. You do not have any micro, SD card support, 64, gigs of internal storage and four gigs of ram, which I think the 64 is a little low for phone without any um.
You know SD card support, especially for a phone where you're going to be taking pictures and stuff like that, but as far as gaming performance um, it does do a pretty good job at most of the games I've thrown at it um you can play. Furthermore, you know max fps on high on here, and it looks pretty good. So I mean you know: I've never had any overheating problems with this phone, so it's actually pretty, pretty decent for uh gaming. Here now this phone actually has stereo speakers, and they sound, perfect they're, very loud, very good quality speakers. So I was really happy with uh speaker quality on here.
I'll show you what they sound like max volume. So I think these speakers sound excellent on here very crisp and highs, pretty good bass presence on here, and they're just very loud as well. So I was really happy with speaker performance on this phone, so you do have NFC for your mobile payments and stuff like that and as far as like uh software features on this phone, it's stock android. So there's really not a ton. You have your screen recording on here.
You also have your like a little night light thing. Of course, we have your dark mode and stuff on here, but um, it's very stock android. So if you're looking for a lot of like customization and stuff, like that, not necessarily going to find that on this phone because the pixel phones are really, you know, they're really meant to be. You know very minimal as far as you know, the design of the UI and stuff like that uh, but everything does work very fast and fluid. So that is one thing that I've always liked is how just fast and uh almost lag free everything is so that is definitely a bonus there.
All right so battery life on this phone is actually pretty decent. You have a 3700 William battery with 18 watt charging, and I've never had an issue with battery life on here. For me, as a sort of like a lighter user uh, you can definitely get through the day with this phone. I would say this phone could do at least six or seven hours of screen at one time, depending on how you use it, which I think is pretty decent for most people. So I think battery life overall is something that you shouldn't really have to worry about, unless you're, a more hardcore user, and you're doing a lot of gaming and stuff like that, then this phone will most definitely need a charge here, but I think battery life overall is pretty fine on this phone.
So what do you guys think of the pixel 3 XL? Do you guys think it's worth 150 bucks now uh? Also, one thing you know to think about is that you know when android 12 comes out. This phone uh will be one of the first phones to get it, which is pretty cool, so you do get updates pretty fast. If you, you know somebody that wants the latest version of android or just a stock experience of android, honestly uh so yeah. So I think the highlights with this phone great cameras, great speaker. I think the android 11 updates fixed a lot of just the lag problems uh with this phone and uh yeah.
So what do you guys think be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
