Intro Friends, we have the Tecno POVA 2 here & I should ask Tecno the reason behind its unique & different name But the phone comes with a lot of big things. We’re going to unbox it & will give you its first impressions. We have already unboxed its predecessor, Tecno POVA 1 & it was good. Now we’ll look at Tecno POVA 2. It comes with a silver box with 7000mAh(Battery) written on it & nothing much. Unboxing - That’s a big phone! You get some documentation, a 18W charger, a USB Type C cable.
You also get a pre-applied case with the phone, & it’s a good quality case with a small seal on the bottom. Look at the design, & it’s clear that smartphone manufacturers have started experimenting with the design. It’s unique & it’ll definitely stand out. There’s the POVA branding below. Overall, it’s a big phone.
And a scratch guard is already applied. We’ll take it out. Let’s put on the case as the drop test is mandatory, the case fits well though. No, nothing. Nothing.
The case is quite good, but a snugly fit would’ve been better. In Hand Feel - It’s a big & tall phone, it's not wide so it’ll feel good with big hands but not so much with small hands. Ports & Buttons - Below, there’s a 3.5mm jack, a USB Type C port & a microphone. On the left there’s a sim card tray. There’s no noise cancelling microphone above.
On the right, there’s volume rocker(up & down) & a side-mounted fingerprint sensor with power(on/off) button. Its weight should be around 210-215g, as it has a 7000mAh battery & a big screen, let’s test! Oh! It’s 228g! But the weight distribution is good & so it feels a little lighter. Time to start the big phone! The phone has started & we’re done setting it up. Wait, let’s check the sim card tray! It has a dedicated SD card slot which is nice! Let’s look at the display. Wow! That is a BIG display! It’s a 6.9” FHD+ display with 60Hz normal refresh rate & 180Hz touch sampling rate. Despite being big, the upper & side bezels are thin.
Remember the base variant is priced at Rs 11K. And its higher variant is priced at Rs 13K. And with that, I’d say they are thin, & the chin is average too. The overall screen-to-body ratio is above 90%. If you want a big display phone(not a tablet) for multimedia, then this has quite a big display.
About 4-5 years ago we had tablets with 7” & now we have smartphones because of the thin bezels & form factor. Specifications - It comes with Helio G85 SoC, with the base variant 4+64GB(Rs 10,999) & 6+128GB(Rs 12,999). And the storage type is eMMC with LPDDR4X RAM. Battery - It has a huge 7000mAh battery with 18W charging. And it might take 2-2.5 hours to charge 0-100% battery. Tecno claims that it has 46 days of standby time! Sensors - You get all sensors, like the side mounted fingerprint sensor & face unlock which work well.
OS UI - It comes with HiOS 7.6 & some preinstalled apps which you can uninstall. Features - There’s a voice changer mode to change your voice during calls, a peek proof mode for privacy. There’s a Kids mode space for apps to give access/deny access for kids. And a 360 degree flash(LED on front & back). Cameras - It’s a quad camera setup with 48MP primary sensor, 2MP(Macro), 2MP(Depth) & an AI Lens.
And you get a center punch hole with an 8MP selfie sensor. I’m showing some photos under normal conditions as we haven’t used it much but they’re good because of 48MP. The 2MP(Macro) & 2MP(Depth) cameras are nothing much to talk about. But the overall camera setup for the price point is good. The selfies are soft & the colors are good under normal light conditions.
It’s a feature rich camera, you get 2K time lapse mode, Video Bokeh mode, Slow motion video mode etc. And with 2K time lapse you also get 2K video recording. You get flash lights both on the front(Dual LEDs) and back(Quad LEDs), for the 360 degree flash. It’s beneficial for low light selfies that brighten up, which is good. Performance - It's fun to play BGMI on low-medium settings, because of the big screen We played it on low-medium settings & we didn’t find much frame drops.
On paper the AnTuTu score is near 2.17L, which is ok. With the massive battery, you can binge watch or have long gaming sessions easily. Multimedia - The video viewing experience is going to be enjoyable with the big screen, it’s an FHD+ display & not AMOLED. it has decent viewing angles. And the audio comes from the earpiece as there’s no speaker below.
It’s loud, but feels a little muddled so the audio is ok. But the overall multimedia experience will be good. Especially if you’re watching Netflix with earphones, you’ll enjoy it. You get Widevine L3 support, which should’ve been L1. It also supports Camera2api.
The SAR value is within limits & you get FM Radio as well. Connectivity - It has Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi Calling, Dual band WiFi & Bluetooth 5.0. So how is the Tecno POVA 2? I think the pricing is good if you’re looking for a big screen phone as it has a 6.9” screen which is rare in this price range. The 7000mAh battery too is good for long sessions & might last you for 2 days, so you can look at it. For multimedia, the L1 support should’ve been there for HD streaming.
But the big screen & battery, are the 2 big highlights of the Tecno POVA 2. If you’re interested in buying it, the product link is in the description. If you enjoyed the video, then hit LIKE & SHARE it with your friends too! That’s all for this video, until the next one, Keep Trakin & Stay Safe!.
