Is, the T-Mobile revel 4 plus worth buying in 2021. Well, in this video, we're going to find out hey everybody. This is Andre here covering for Kevin on the Kevin breeze channel, and today we're going to be taking a look at the T-Mobile revel.4 plus you can get this phone through T-Mobile or metro by T-Mobile for more information on current pricing and availability be sure to check the link in the description below let's get started. So this phone has a 6.52 inch lcd with a resolution of 720p and a PPI of 269. The phone has an aspect ratio of 18 by 9, but from personal testing I found the aspect ratio to be 20 by 9. We got a water drop here for the front-facing camera, and this camera is 16 megapixels for a phone of this price, 16 megapixels is definitely high for a front-facing camera.
So that is a perfect plus that I'm happy to see this phone comes with 64 gigabytes of storage with micros card expansion, and that is definitely impressive for a phone of this price range. Usually, the phones at this price range are around 32 gigabytes, sometimes even less, but with 64. It's definitely an adequate amount of space to work with. To put this into perspective, an iPhone which is a lot more expensive than this phone starts at 64 gigabytes itself, so factoring in the ability to expand the storage even more, with a micro SD card which an iPhone doesn't even have. This phone can actually have more storage than some of those high-end phones out there.
To give you an idea of what this storage looks like in action, I have everything that I use on a daily basis, downloaded onto the phone, which is actually quite a bit, and it takes up only 27 of the phone's storage. If you're taking a lot of photos and videos and run apps that take up a lot of space, then having a decent amount of storage on the phone is definitely going to be a plus. Now, there's no wireless charging on this phone. Unfortunately, but there is a fingerprint scanner. Let's go ahead and try that out now there we go one more time.
As you can see, the fingerprint scanner is very fast and responsive, and it's conveniently placed as well. So taking a look at the camera setup, we do have a dual camera set up here with a 16 megapixel, rear camera and a 5 megapixel depth sensing camera. This is perfect because a nice depth, sensing camera means a very high quality portrait mode. Let's go ahead and check the camera out right now. This camera definitely does have a lot of different options on it.
One thing that I really do wish it had been an ultra-wide camera, a lot of phones these days, even the lower end ones, are getting ultra-wide cameras, and it's really becoming somewhat of an expectation now, considering that a super entry-level phone has one, I would expect that this phone would too, so it's a little disappointing that it doesn't, but the photo quality of the regular camera does look really nice and, as you can see, portrait mode does work really well. So this is the front-facing camera. As you can see, it has a really high quality, as you would expect from a 16 megapixel camera and let's go into portrait mode. The portrait mode looks really nice. The background is tastefully blurred without being too much.
One thing I wish this portrait mode did have been the ability to control how much you want the blur to be. I know some lower end phones have the ability to change the blur on the portrait mode, and I always thought that was a really cool feature just doing a quick test of the video mode of the phone we are shooting in 4k. Right now also keep in mind the audio quality. So, as you can see, the video mode of this phone is very decent. It is able to shoot in 4k, which is really nice to see in a phone of this price range.
A lot of the phones in this price range are only able to shoot in 1080p and even the ones that do shoot in 4k. Still, don't really look very good, but this phone does look perfect in 4k and, as you can see, the audio quality is decent. I would say, though, at louder volumes. The audio quality gets a little distorted, as you could probably hear there now. The vast majority of people use headphones or speakers on their phone, but I personally don't like to use headphones and speakers all the time.
So I really do value a phone with a very crisp speaker and this one is okay. But if I'm listening to music for a longer period of time out of the speaker, it might not be as good of an experience, and that goes for watching videos as well. So definitely keep that in mind. If you use headphones or speakers all the time, then this isn't even going to be a concern for you. But if you're like me and use the phone speaker a lot, then you're definitely going to notice that fuzzy audio when you're playing it at louder volumes now internally we're getting four gigabytes of ram with a Qualcomm snapdragon 665 processors.
I ran a geek bench 5 benchmark test on this phone, and it has a single core score of 311 and a multi-core score of 1386. Now compared to higher level mid-range phones like the T-Mobile, revel, 5g or even older flagship phones. These numbers aren't that impressive and if you're doing more heavy performance things like video editing, then this might not work out for you. But if you're more in that mid-range, where you're doing a lot of content, consumption and maybe photo editing and just taking pictures in general and using social media a lot, then this is definitely going to come in handy because this processor is going to be able to handle those kinds of activities. And, of course, if you're, just using the phone for basic activities like making calls sending text messages, internet browsing and that sort of thing, but want the option to do more intensive activities.
Sometimes, then, this is still going to be good. Now this phone has a 4 000 William hour battery, which is actually perfect. A lot of the phones in this price range have a much smaller battery. Even some old flagship phones have only 3 000 or 3 500 William hour batteries. So this is definitely a nice thing to see the phone does run on android 10 as well, which is definitely a plus when you're comparing this phone to the older flagship phones, you're gonna, get that newer version of android and of course that's going to come with the newer features and the newer look now that we've gone over some specs of the phone.
Let's take a look at the hardware, so up top here we got the three and a half millimeter headphone jack and then right here is the noise-canceling microphone and then, of course, our front-facing camera and the earpiece. Now I don't know if I mentioned it yet in this video, but I do say it all the time, so I'll say it again: I'm definitely not a fan of the water drop front facing cameras. I think the hole punch looks a lot better. More manufacturers are moving towards the hole punch for the front-facing cameras and I think it looks a lot more professional, a lot more clean, and it gives it more sleek modern, timeless. Look.
The water drops. Front-Facing cameras really remind me of those older smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy s7 that are really dated. When you look at it, it definitely gives you that older look. Although this phone doesn't have a bad design, it still makes it look a little cheaper. One reason I especially want to point this out is that the T-Mobile revel 5g actually does have a hole punch for the front-facing camera instead, and I personally don't know why they couldn't have just kept the same design for this phone now.
Looking at the bottom. Here we have our microphone an USB charging port and, of course, the speaker on the left side of the phone. We have a slot for the sim card in the micros card and on the right side of the phone. We have a volume up button, the volume down button and, of course, our power button, just like with the T-Mobile revel 5g. I really like this button.
It really gives a nice taste to the phone really shows that this is a T-Mobile phone, and it's a nice design that a lot of other phones don't have on the back. Here we have our camera setup, our flash and, of course, the fingerprint scanner and there's a T-Mobile logo right in the middle all around the build of the phone is perfect, and it does feel sleek despite the design of the front-facing camera that I don't particularly care for it does have again a more timeless design similar to the revel 5g. I really don't think this phone is going to end up looking that old in a few years, like some old galaxies do. Another thing I really do appreciate about this phone is the fact that it doesn't have any sort of assistant button. A lot of smartphones these days have something like a Google Assistant button.
If it's a Samsung, then it's going to have a Bixby button. I really don't think phones need that and T-Mobile really went with that minimalistic approach, and it doesn't have any unnecessary features that just get in the way. I am definitely a fan of that, and now we're going to take a look at what's inside the box. So in here we have a quick start guide and, of course, a sim card removal tool. We have an USB cable and a wall adapter.
Now, in conclusion, is this phone worth buying in 2021? Well, I personally say for what it's meant for this phone is definitely worth buying in this price range. This phone has a lot of great features that are a little hard to find on other phones. If you're looking for a phone that can not only do basic activities but also more intensive activities like photo editing, shooting video, heavy content, consumption and maybe some light gaming, then this phone is definitely going to provide great value, especially with the extra features like the high quality camera. But if you're looking for a more high performance device that can do video, editing and heavy gaming and that sort of thing, then you might want to look at a higher end device like the T-Mobile revel 5g. But overall, I do think that this phone is a great value and is still worth buying in 2021.
