Sony Xperia neo L unboxing and hands-on

Sony Xperia Neo name has a new heir, the Neo L, while the hardware on the inside is virtually identical to that of the 2011 models, the exterior has changed most, notably with the 4-inch VGA screen on the front. Inside the box. We have an AC adapter micro, USB, cable and a headset. The Sony Xperia Neo L is an entry-level device and the screen is one of its biggest advantages over the competition at 245 PPI. It offers a very sharp image and pleasing colors. Sadly, we also noticed the typically poor viewing angles.

We've come to expect from the Xperia Line other than that. The Neo L drops the micro HDMI port of the previous two models, as well as the hardware shutter key. There are four hardware keys on the front now, but they are wobbly and have a cheapest feel to them. A glossy plastic on the back is not all that pleasing either and is a huge fingerprint, magnet you'll notice. The more traditional camera position instead of the central, clear position characteristic of the older Neo models, the Sony Xperia Neo L comes with the standard Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Out of box featuring Sony's latest custom skin, the software package includes two galleries: the new ICS one and an exterior which imitates the one found in Gingerbread there's, also an office viewer and Castro file manager.

We were a bit surprised when we launched the camera and found that Neo L uses the stock Android interface here it offers all the basics, flash mode scenes and geotagging but Sony's custom camera app, has more options, touch focus. For example, the camera does five megapixel stills and 720p videos and there's an LED flash plus a front-facing camera, which puts the Neo L on par with the Neo V. Video player was quite a disappointment. It failed to play in most videos we tried and even a longer mp4 file grew to be a problem. In contrast, the Neo L uses the excellent ICS web browser with full flash support, and you can also install Chrome for Android if you prefer, there's also the latest version of Google Maps that lets you make part of the map available offline, as well as a trial version of the wise pilot, GPS navigation software.
