Smsung Galaxy A02s vs A12 Comparison! Which Should You Buy?

What's going on guys, my name is wade with tech daily and in this video we're going to be comparing the Samsung Galaxy a02s to the Samsung Galaxy a12. Now these are some of the first new 2021, a series devices to be launched this year, and you can probably tell that they are actually super similar to one another as well. If you're looking for a new budget device right now, you're likely considering one of if not both of these phones and given how close they are with their features, the specs and even the price, it might be kind of hard to separate them. So I'm gonna break down everything. That's the same, all the stuff, that's different and everything else you need to know about these two phones, and hopefully, by the end. This will help you decide if either one of them is potentially right for you to kick things off.

Let's first talk about pricing and availability, the a02s is gonna, be the cheaper device, but only by a little you can pick up this phone unlocked right now for between 150 and 160 dollars. The a12 retails for between 175 and 200, unlocked at the moment and the prices are going to depend on where you're located and the configuration option you choose for either phone, but in general the difference is likely going to be 40 to 50, give or take. Now that's not a huge difference in terms of actual dollars, but relatively speaking, you're paying some 15 to 20 percent more for the a12, which I can understand, could be a significant difference at this price point. But what I will say is that, considering how much more phone you potentially get with the a12, I think it may be worth the extra few bucks, and I'll get into all that in just a second. But if you guys are interested in doing some comparison, shopping of your own I'll leave some links down below in the video description to all the deals and discounts for these two phones physically.

I think it's pretty obvious that these two phones look almost identical they're, both 6.5 inch devices, that's the screen size, but the body and housing line up almost perfectly as well. So in the hand, there's not a lot that sets them apart. In fact, from the front there's nothing, that's really different at all. They both have the same teardrop notch for the selfie camera up top a similar, larger bottom bezel down below, and I think if these phones had the same wallpaper it'd be impossible to differentiate them around back. This is where you can finally tell them apart at least a little.

Obviously, the design of the rear housing is different, but it's all just aesthetics. The a02s has sort of a gray and black diamond pattern, while the a12 gets this lined textured feel and contrasting bottom detail, but the materials are the same. It's all plastic and neither phone offers any water resistance or wireless charging or anything else special. So, while visually the design may be a little different, neither phone has any real advantage. Interestingly enough, the only other real physical difference between these two phones is in the side profile.

The a02s has a more prominent taper to the edge while the a12 is a little thicker and boxier, but that's really it and, to be honest, that design difference is subtle enough that if you didn't know to look for it, you probably wouldn't notice and in the hand these two phones feel almost identical too from the size to the shape to the weight, the materials and honestly, the biggest thing worth considering here is mostly that getting such a big phone like the a02s at a cheaper price might be nice if that's what you're into but at the same time, fans of last year's a01 might be a little disappointed in not having that tiny compact form factor taking a look around and everything else. On the left side, both phones have their respective sim and SD card trays there on the right, similar volume, button setups, but you'll notice, the power buttons are different. The a12 gets that fingerprint power button combo, which I'll talk about in a second down below an identical, headphone jack. USB c port and speaker setup and round back, obviously, we also get different camera setups on each phone as well, which I'll go more in depth with in just a second with the speaker setups here to me. Both phones sound about the same, perhaps a little quieter than other phones, but here's a quick, sound sample of each so that you can get an idea.

Now I mentioned a second ago that, on the a12 you do get a power button, fingerprint setup. It is kind of new to these a series- phones, a lot of the budget ones last year, had a rear, fingerprint setup and to me this is a great addition. Unfortunately, the a02s doesn't get any fingerprint sensor at all, which is definitely a bummer. You still have faced unlock at least, and that's pretty good. It's also on the a12 as well and side by side to me, the face unlock speeds are about the same on each device.

Realistically, the main difference between these two phones is going to be the specs inside, and this, in my opinion, is where the a12 can potentially be worth the extra money, though the results might not be quite what you're expecting the a02s is very much a budget phone, it's powered by the Qualcomm snapdragon 450 chipsets, either three or four gigs of ram and just 32 or 64 gigabytes of built-in storage. The a12, on the other hand, gets the slightly better MediaTek, hello p35 processor, the choice of three four or even six gigs of ram and 32 64 or 128 gigs of built-in storage. So lots more configuration options to choose from there. Both of my devices here have four gigs of ram, so the main difference you'll see is going to be with that processor, and the thing to consider here really is just that in practice, the a12 can sometimes be the faster device, but it's actually not as significant as I initially thought. It would be in fact, in a lot of cases with launching default, android apps and even some third-party apps, the a02s loads things up quicker.

Now I have found that, with more and more apps loaded up, the a02s tends to slow down a little more compared to the a12. But, generally speaking, while I initially expected the a12 to maybe perform consistently better. That just doesn't really seem to be the case. On one hand, that might mean jumping to the a12 isn't necessarily as worth it, especially if maybe you prefer any random snapdragon processor over media attack, but at the same time you can at least configure the a12 to be a little higher spec. Six gigs of ram and 120 gigs of storage might make more sense.

If that's available for you, software wise, both phones are also one UI core devices, so they do lack a couple Samsung related features, but I personally have never really thought that to be too important. The main consideration here really is just gonna, be what you think: you're going to get for your money and to me there's a tad more potential in going with the a12, but surprisingly, it's just not as definitive of a difference. As I know I had hoped for now. I will say that with both phones, keep in mind that they're, not powerhouse devices they're mainly going to be for social media use, texting phone calls. Web browsing YouTube videos stuff like that, but in my opinion they are on the same basic playing field budget devices for people who need more of the bare essentials than anything else, and I think all in all, while the a12 might still be the better overall value.

The a02s is just not as big of a downgrade as I figured it might be. Also, both phones are powered by the same 5 000 William battery inside and yes, we could argue that maybe one processor is a little better at power management than the other. But in my personal experience here so far, neither phone has had any real advantage in longevity. You can expect a day and a half or so of use under normal circumstances, with both devices, which is great and the same 15 watt charging speeds as well. So when it comes to battery power, I don't really see either phone having any advantage and one other thing that's pretty much.

The same with both devices is the actual viewing experience. I already mentioned that these phones offer large 6.5 inch displays, but the technology behind the display is identical as well they're, both pl sips panels with resolutions of 1600x720, for whatever reason they seem to have slightly different pixel densities according to some spec sheets. But, generally speaking, what you'll see on both phones here is an almost identical, looking picture. If you really want to get picky sure, maybe the brightness varies a little, the a02s seems to peak a tiny bit higher, and maybe the color differs a little too. The a12 seems to be just a tiny bit more punchy and saturated.

Overall, I'm sure the calibration of the screens is off with these two phones by just a little, but I don't think that's on purpose. They effectively have identical displays in nearly every capacity, and you don't get any actual measurable advantage here with one phone or the other in general they're decent displays for what they are a bit low in resolution for the size, but they're budget devices. So this is probably what you could expect and, more than anything like, I said already getting such a big screen on either. One of these phones for these price points is really the main thing you're getting. Finally, the last really significant difference actually between these two phones that might be worth considering is gonna, be with the cameras.

The rear setup on the a02s consists of a 13 megapixel main lens 2, megapixel macro lens and 2 megapixel depth sensor. While the a12 has a lot more to work with, it offers a 48 megapixel main lens 5, megapixel, ultrawide lens and seemingly the same 2 megapixel macro and 2 megapixel depth sensor when it comes to features and shooting modes. I personally feel like that wide angle lens on the a12 is quite valuable on its own and on the a12 you also get an additional food filter which is kind of random. I guess there's a couple other small additional options hidden in the camera settings, but in practice to me the actual results are like night and day. Not only can you utilize the full 48 megapixel lens on the a12 to take great super detailed shots.

The regular old pictures are just far better than the a02s as well. The color is better there's a ton more detail. I think you can tell at a glance just how much better the a12 really is, and it's a similar result with a selfie camera too. The a12 has the better 8 megapixel lens versus the older 5 megapixel shooter on the a02s, and while the color and white balance might be up for debate with the selfie cameras, the detail again with the a12 is just significantly better. Obviously, neither device offers any sort of flagship quality camera setup.

You miss out on a ton of stuff like night mode and 4k, video and slo-mo and a bunch of other things, but I think it could be argued that the a02s is still just very much a budget camera setup with noticeably worse results, while the a12, I think, can at least offer decent enough pictures that don't look as obviously low end in comparison. All in all, though, with these devices, you definitely have to keep those expectations realistic with the pictures when I initially compared these two phones. I really did think the a12 is gonna, be the clear winner for not that much more money. You do get better specs, a more capable camera setup, a fingerprint sensor, which is certainly helpful nowadays, but in the end, that's kind of it and realistically the performance difference which I figured would be important. Wasn't all that different at all.

So to me, while the a12 is the better device objectively, I think you can get away with snagging the a02s and not really feel like you missed out on much, and I think this sort of yields the biggest issue with Samsung's a series phones nowadays, there's just not a lot that really separates them from one another anymore, and this is a prime example of that both phones are great budget options, and I'm interested to see which device you guys consider to be the better choice which phone would you prefer?
