Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey, so I wanted to take a few moments to try and recap everything that happened at the unpacked event today August 5th 2020. , there's like 8 million of these videos out there, so if you're actually watching mine, then thank you and hopefully this is informative. If you're not watching it, then you're not going to see that anyway. So lots of important things today the announcement of the note 20 the note 20 ultra. We also have the Galaxy Buds live, little bean shaped, uh, ear, buds from Samsung and then the tab, f7 s7, plus the new galaxy watch three and some information on the z fold too, all these crazy things and more. But before I get into this, I do want to say if this is your first time stopping by the channel.
I appreciate you being here if you enjoy the video please hit the like and the subscribe button and the little notification bell if you want updates when new videos come out now, let's talk about all the unpacked stuff, let's unpack the unpacking all right, so so many things going on right now, with the unpacked event, it's a lot to digest, especially if you only want to know about one thing here or one thing there: it's a lot. It's not like they said: hey we're going to announce one phone and one set of earbuds. No, they threw a lot of phones at us, earbuds tablets and the new foldable, the z-fold 2, which makes no sense because there was no z-fold one. There was just a fold, and then they decided they were gonna start using this z, fold or z terminology. All right things.
You need to know the s20. Sorry, the note 20 ultra is going to be 12.99. It's going to have 120 hertz refresh rate you come. It comes in two different size options, 128 gigabytes of storage, or you can pay an arm and a leg and get the 512 expandable SD card storage, 120, hertz, display, 6.9-inch, screen, 12, gigabytes of ram and all the other good stuff you got. Wireless charging you've got reverse wireless charging.
You've got the AMOLED display. You've got the stylus, which now has a nine millisecond response time, which is on par with the Apple Pencil, so cool beans there um but 12.99 a lot of money, but a hundred dollars cheaper than the s20 ultra. So I actually feel mostly okay about that. When it comes to the note 20, oh boy, 999 dollars, the phone has a plastic back. It has a six point: seven-inch screen with a 60 hertz, refresh rate, only 128, gigabytes of storage, no other options.
There's no expandable SD card storage, 60, hertz, 1080p display all the s20s had the 920 hertz refresh rate, and here we are charging a thousand dollars for the note 20, which they like purposely dubbed it down. I guess maybe to try and convince you that you have to have the ultra version, so you can get the best version, and it has like 30 times zoom instead of the 50 times zoom, but whatever either way, 999 bucks for a plastic back phone 1080p display 60hz refresh rate, no expandable storage. I just don't see it whatever. If you like it, they even have it in a different color. So the color options are as follows: we have mystic black, which what is mystic black anyway black is black.
I mean how many what is mystic, I don't know. I think it has something to do with the uh kind of like a frosted touch, maybe to it or something but mystic black mystic, white, mystic, bronze, mystic bronze, looks really cool on the note 20 though they have another color, mystic green, which I actually think looks pretty good. Why that wasn't on the ultra? I don't know, I guess they feel like throwing you a bone if you're going to pay a thousand dollars for their subpar, overpriced phone, but both of the phones running the snapdragon 865 plus, it is about a 10 performance increase over the snapdragon 865, that's in the s20 series and about a 30 performance increase over last year's 855. That's all the spec information for you. Is it worth it sure I guess so.
The 12.99 is a lot of money, but we paid 13.99 for the s20 ultra, which was crazy, overpriced, but now you get an s pen and the 120 hertz, I think kind of works if it's in quad HD plus, instead of just limiting it to 1080p all the time. So there you have that the s the note 20, I think, is totally not worth it does not buy that phone, or I will never be your friend, and we can't talk anymore, and you can't watch my videos when it comes to the Galaxy Buds. Live the people say they look like kidney beans. They look like beans, sent beans, there's so many bean comparisons that they talk about. All.
I really care about is do they work, and I'm probably going to end up getting a pair of them just so I can test them out, because I do like to review earbuds. I do like to be able to say hey. These are good. These aren't good. I like audio stuff, so it's audio stuff.
I might pick those up they're 169 bucks, and I think you can go ahead and order, those now or tomorrow, or something like that, but yeah they look unconventional as I'll get out, which I mean is whatever that Samsung's prerogative they want to stand out. Furthermore, I mean people make fun of the AirPods. People make fun of the AirPods pros with the stems on them. People make fun of people, make fun of everything, but here's the thing people like what they like and at the end of the day, if it works, then hey, it works. I'm cool with that, and I'm also happy.
If there's something that's out there, that's an alternative to AirPods because they don't sound as good as they cost when it comes to the tablets. This is one of the ones I'm actually really interested. In I love the tablet stuff, I made a video about the s7, the s7 plus kind of the same thing as the uh kind of the same thing as the notes' snapdragon 865, plus you're. Looking at six gigabytes of ram, though I don't get that, how do you have such a large tablet, and you only put six gigabytes of ram in there when the phones have like eight and twelve? I don't get it I mean normally, when you get smaller stuff, you have less, but when Samsung gives you more, they give you less. So I don't know uh.
The s7 is going to have an LCD screen. The s7 plus is going to have the ammo led yeah they're, going to work great they're, they're, perfect upgrades. I think I don't like the LCD screen on the s7. I wouldn't personally buy that I'm gonna stick with my tab. S6 I may be convinced to get the s7 plus just because that 12.4-inch screen it looks real nice. I am not going to lie.
It does in 120 hertz refresh rate. I'm a sucker for the refresh rate, but for the normal person stick with your s6. If you have a s5 or earlier tablet, go ahead and upgrade, but if you've got a s6 already, I don't really see it. They are talking about, like 649 bucks, I think for the s7, which is on par with the s6, which is pretty darn good um, and then it looked like it was gonna, be about 800 bucks 850 to get your foot in the door with the tab s7. Let me just go ahead and confirm this, so I can only remember so much at one point in time to tell you all.
So let me look at this real, quick, just to make sure all right, so tab, s7, seven plus uh, yes, so prices on those 649 and 849 all right. I remembered it correctly. So yeah I think, that's probably pretty fair, especially whenever they're trying to compare themselves and put themselves up against the iPads. I think they do a good job, and they also have the tabbed s6 light that came out recently. If you want something a little cheaper to compare to compete with the regular iPad, which is around 250 300 bucks now so Samsung finally has some options and what I love the most is now that they've got everything online with the one UI software.
I can have my text messages and my phone calls show up on my tablet and respond to them from there, which was one of my biggest criticisms and hang-ups for the longest time when it came to their tablets. So I am all on board with the Samsung tablets, but yes, s7, s7 plus 649, for the lower model 849 for the higher end model. I don't think that that's too bad. Now when it comes to the watch, if you're interested in the watch, I've had several of the Samsung watches, I mean I had the first gear s watch I had the gear s2 I had the gear fit. I had the galaxy fit.
I had I've had so many of their stinking watches that they're completely unmemorable to me, the s3 frontier I thought was really nice. Furthermore, I got it for like 150 bucks last year. It looks like there are some improvements here, a little more powerful, a little more robust, a little better screen size uh when it comes to that I mean 14, thinner, 8, smaller 15, lighter than the original watch uh. So there's that, and they're supposed to have the most robust. You know app exosphere for the android watches, which that's not hard to beat.
I don't really listen to any of the metrics. All I know is its a new Samsung watch. It's come out if you like the Samsung watches. This is their best one yet, and you'll probably like it, and they did bump the price up like 60 bucks uh on these things so yeah it is gonna, be a little more money, you're looking at 399 for the 41 millimeter version, you're, looking at 429 for the 45 millimeter version, and if you want LTE, it's another 50 bucks, so 449 or 479 respectively, so they're really getting up there on par with what apple is charging for their watches. Now but again, yes, it is the best option, I think for most mainstream people, especially if you have a Samsung phone, it pairs and works, and it's great so yeah.
If you like the Samsung watches, and if you have something older than the s3, it might be worth looking to upgrade and if you just like to have the latest and greatest go ahead and buy it, you might like it. Of course, I'm not a sales person for Samsung at all. And if you look at my twitter, it's going to be a miracle. If they ever send me anything ever to review. Uh is probably just never going to happen.
Um yeah, so we've covered the watch. We've covered the phones. Now the cameras do look like they have some pretty substantial updates on them. On the back so note 20 we have a 12 megapixel, then the 108 megapixel wide and the 12 megapixel telephoto, I'm sorry, that's the ultra. The ultra has the 108.
The note 20 has the 64 megapixel, but then you've got the 12 megapixel wide and ultra-wide, so Samsung likes to deal in 12, megapixel cameras, and I made a kind of joke about this. With the note 10 lite before saying they should have called the note 12, because all three of the cameras were 12 megapixels, so they have fantastic selfie cameras too. I really like what Samsung do I'm shooting this with a Samsung phone right now? If it comes off as negative, I mean shoot where's my wallet. It's inside I've got a z-flip. I just ordered the z-flip 5g, I'm shooting this with the s20 ultra I like Samsung products, and by and large.
I think that this was a relatively successful update cycle on the new phones coming out, except the note 20, which I think is completely out in left field. Furthermore, I don't know what those guys were thinking at all if you're interested in the z-fold 2 um, it's supposed to get some more information that comes out around September, the first bigger screen on the outside bigger screen on the inside it, you can position the screen, it's not just open or closed. It now can hold positions like you get with the z-flip, which I think is cool. I really like that feature with the z-flip. I love the z-flip.
Furthermore, I think it's a great phone so much so that I just bought this one, even though I had the other one, I'm going to sell it whatever another story, however yeah I like that it can hold those different positions. That means you can use it for things you can set it down. You can prop it up. You can have the screen up over here. Furthermore, you can have the screen over here.
There are some substantial improvements. I'm sure that it's going to be really nice, and I'm sure it's going to be really expensive and that's probably why they want people to go ahead and buy stuff right now. Go ahead and pre-order it moving into the z-fold 2 at the beginning of September, because it's probably going to be expensive. I mean the last one's like 1980, so my guess is it's going to be more expensive, probably around 2 100 bucks. Maybe I don't know we'll have to find out and see, but it ain't going to be cheap, but people are really intrigued by it.
So I'm sure it's going to sell just fine. I am not going to lose any sleep at night, knowing that Samsung is selling this phone for two thousand dollars, because people will buy it. It's just, and it's cool is what it is. I like. I have the fold.
Furthermore, I like the original one um. Yes, you can go ahead and order. The s20 ultra now max trade-in value you can get is 650 which irks me a little because the s20 ultra or the s20 or the s10. I think they give you 650 for any of those. But, oh sorry, the note 10, if you have note 10 or newer 650 bucks, I just paid 13.99 for the s20 ultra like four months ago. So it kind of irks me that they're only offering 650 bucks for it.
I am not trading in my s20 ultra, it's not going to happen. I'm going to hang on to this continue to shoot video with it. Furthermore, I don't think there's enough substantial upgrade from the s20 for me to get the note 20 and if you have a s20 phone, unless you're just dying to get the stylus in your hands, I don't really recommend that you upgrade to it either. If you've got a note, 10 you'll probably still even be happy with that. It's so got the snapdragon 855 solid phone, but these new ones they got the 5g.
They got the better response times on the stylus, with less lag, they've got better cameras than last year. There's a lot of nice stuff. I don't feel like there's really been a disservice. This go around with the note 20, especially the ultra, but what irks me is just the pricing on the note 20. If that phone were 750 bucks, I think it would be a stellar deal for a lot of people, but at 9.99 I just can't sign off on it, but there you go. If you want some more information check out the Samsung website, you can pre-order or order some of this stuff now and get whatever it is that you want that your little Samsung heart desires, but that's my recap on the unpacked event today.
Hopefully this was more entertaining because the unpacked event was abysmally terrible. It was like watching like an advert or a home shopping network, video from like the 90s. It's its so bad. If you want some cringe laughing, go back and watch it, but anyway that's all I've got. Hopefully this has been helpful.
Hopefully it's been entertaining and giving you the information that you need to make some decisions on some Samsung products and saved you two hours hour and a half of watching their terrible video. So that's all I've got if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them down in the comment section I'll get back with you. As always. I appreciate you being here, thank you for watching, and I'll see you guys next time.
