So, I'm pretty sure most of you people know by now that Samsung released these galaxy tabs a couple of months ago, and I just got it now. I just got now time to pretty much review them and do videos that I didn't mean to do or did do this intro's too long. We're going to be talking about the Samsung Galaxy tab, 87 and how it holds up a couple of months later, specifically in the later part of 2020, even though it was released in the later part of 2020. Now with this tablet, specifically when I actually went to buy it. Actually, I was looking at photos. I was looking at videos and everything, and I was actually pretty surprised about the build quality and just how similar this device was to the Samsung Galaxy tab.
S7 that I just reviewed- and I actually did like that tablet- a lot. I think Samsung probably dropped the ball with the screen. I think that's. Furthermore, I think that screen is beautiful, but I just wish they put an OLED panel on it, because Samsung makes a really, really good OLED panels, and it doesn't really make any sense. Why they didn't do that, but with the tab a7, they actually took a little of a different approach here, because it's a much cheaper tablet than the Samsung Galaxy tab, s7 and visually.
They kind of look the same. You may look at the a7, and you may look at the s7 and be like oh they're kind of the same thing. There's not that big of a difference. I can definitely tell you without a doubt. There are huge differences between the a7 and the s7, and if you have the money to buy, it then definitely get the s7.
I never bought the s6, you know or s6 light or whatever it's called that one too, but I can only imagine that that tablet, visually and just the way it performs is also probably better than this tablet as well, but, like I said they both look kind of the same now, starting off with the outside. First, if you want to pick it up I'll, find the cheapest one on Amazon and link it down in the description below you can get it from there and help support the channel. At the same time, now on the front of the Galaxy Tab, a7, you have a 10.4 inch panel on it. It is IPS so no OLED, but for this price tag it's kind of expected- and I think the best thing that kind of you know this is comparable to was like an iPad, 8th generation. I feel like these two tablets are probably the best competitors.
Now this panel is bigger than the iPad 8th generation or about the same size, something like that that one's 10.2 this was a 10.4, but this one just looks based on the bezel like a better machine just because it doesn't have that much bezel around it, and I think that's actually something. That's really nice about this iPad or this tablet. But it's also something that's kind of deceiving, because when I was looking at the box of the a7 and the s7, I was like this thing's pretty much the same thing. It just doesn't have a dual camera setup on the back and no pencil support, but other than that. It's still the same.
That's not the case. This is a 1200p whatever panel, but it's not that great of a panel, it's probably one of its worst aspects for sure and when you're using something on an everyday basis. This galaxy tabs panel is just not that great. If I'm being honest, which is unfortunate because I wanted it to be great and everything, but it really wasn't, so that was something that was really sad to me. The s7 has a perfect panel on it for being an IPS panel, and it's pretty much comparable to the iPad's panel as well, but with this iPad I wasn't really too much of a fan of it.
If I'm being completely honest, so that is a very, very important thing to kind of keep in mind so the panel of it, even though it doesn't have a crazy amount of bezel no home button, the panel itself isn't really that great. If I'm being honest now on the bottom, it does have an USB type-c port, which I think that is really awesome. I don't know if this thing has Samsung deck support, but I'll probably just gloss over that for now and on the back, you have the plastic back. You know it definitely doesn't feel extremely premium. So keep that in mind.
It's not the most premium feeling thing in the world, but it's also not the worst feeling thing like I've had definitely had tablets back in the day. That did not feel this thing kind of feels like a nexus 9, that's kind of like the same thing, it's like in the same ballpark as the nexus 9. If any of you guys know that, and you have a single camera set up top which I'll go ahead and hit on this is a pretty basic camera setup. For the most part, this thing is an 8 megapixel sensor on the back and for the most part like I stated before, definitely not an insanely, crazy type of camera. It's pretty basic when it comes down to it to the features and everything like that, and I think, like I said before, when it comes down to these specific aspects of camera setups, it's very important to have a pretty good camera setup for the most part, and in this specific case it gets the job done.
You know what I mean. It also has a five megapixel front facing camera and there's not really a huge point into talking about this thing for 55 000 minutes. But I think when it's something like this, it's very important to kind of fit on the aspects when it comes down to the quality of the photos, the quality of the videos and for an everyday basis. I mean, if you're doing a bunch of Zoom calls or FaceTime or video calls and google meets and stuff. I think, with the Galaxy Tab, you're probably going to have an okay experience, but don't expect it to be like the best performing camera, which I don't think anybody's really going.
For I mean this is a budget tablet in a way, so you're going to get budget type of experience? In my opinion, so in terms of that that pretty much covers up the camera setup now software wise, this thing does have android 10 on one UI 2.1 right now. I think it will be getting one UI 2.5 very soon and then eventually, hopefully when ui3, but one thing I can tell you is for sure when it comes down to it. This specific setup of this whole entire tablet is very, very top tier. I think for sure it has a very good type of ability when it comes down to the features of it. Of course, it's not extremely performance heavy, but it does have some capability in the software now.
One thing I would always tell a lot of people to do is to definitely always throw a custom launcher on these devices. It just always smooths out the whole entire experience. It makes the experience so much better. In this specific case. It would definitely help you if you did throw a custom launcher on it, but it's not needed and if you're a fan of Samsung, if you're a fan of one UI which I've never met.
Anybody who was a fan of it, then you'll probably be in good company with this tablet, but again don't expect it to be the best performing tablet when it comes to the software, and I'm not even to sure what the software longevity looks like on this type of tablet, because I don't really know what the past ones look like. So in terms of that, that pretty much covers it up in terms of the software standpoint now hitting on the performance side of things, the Galaxy Tab a7 has that Qualcomm snapdragon 662 chipsets, which I've never even said those numbers before in my life, I'm not too sure what type of chips that that is, but it has the outscore CPU. It has an arena 610 GPU, so definitely an older GPU in it, and it has 32 gag storage and 64 gig storage respectively, but they both have three gigabytes of ram. It also has a micro SD card slot, but it has three gigs of ram for the top tier models pretty much. So that's a pretty weird thing in my opinion and I think when it comes down to this specific situation, I will tell you if this tablet were a phone, it would probably be something like a Galaxy S7, that's like the type of phone it would be, and I would probably say like we know what I recommend a Galaxy S7 for people to buy right.
Now, probably not you know the s7 even has more capability, because it's built better, it has wireless charging, and it's also, you know much has better display, but on the Galaxy Tab a7 the biggest problem with it is probably the performance and the screen. It's like one or the other, the build quality I can get over the camera. I can get over that's USB type-c, which is cool, but the panel and the know performance itself. Just isn't that great and when you have a tablet like this, I can just imagine that you know if a lot of people are using this type of tablet- they're. Probably comparing oh, should I get this or should I go and get an iPad aka, the iPad, 8th generation, and I'll definitely tell you're, going to be getting a much smoother experience from an iPad, 8th generation than this specific tablet, and that's very sad because I always like Samsung, I love competition and anytime.
I can make like a comparison, video. I will- and I probably end up doing it with these, but definitely when it comes down to the Samsung Galaxy tab, e7 you're going to be getting a much weirder experience when it comes down to it. Furthermore, I don't want to say this is a horrible performing tablet, but it's definitely not amazing, and it's definitely not that great. Furthermore, I probably would not even pay like a hundred and fifty dollars for this thing. Based on the performance.
The ram is probably the biggest problem because when you're doing like split screen, multitasking type of apps and stuff you're going to be having a weirder experience, and if this tablet was like a 2016 or 2017 or 2018 tablet, then I would probably give it some more slack. But the chipsets that's inside this thing, the ram that's inside this thing, even the storage, you know the base storage models. It's not really that high for everything you know as a package, because it doesn't feel that great it doesn't look. It looks good, but the display doesn't look good and those are just some really. You know basic things with the iPad.
It definitely looks a little more outdated because of that home button, but it still feels pretty good. The panel itself is actually perfect in the performance and everything is still extremely smooth on that iPad. So I don't know what to make of it, but definitely when it comes down to the performance of this tablet, I'm not a huge fan if, if I'm being completely honest but probably another huge aspect that makes this tablet that much better is probably the battery. This thing has a 70 40 million power battery inside it. So that's definitely a pretty big size and perfect size battery to have in this specific device.
Is it perfect? I don't know actually, because it's actually pretty good when I was using it. I used it for like a couple of days, and it was perfectly fine now, obviously, I'm not like going and like traveling with this thing and using it as my main machine, but for the times that I was using it, it really only went down like 40 to 50 or maybe up to 60 percent, for I think I was using for like three days. You know doing some things here, playing some games. You know cutting footage and everything like that, and this tablet did a good job. So definitely when it comes down to the battery life, I'll probably give it a thumbs up and to kind of sum up this video and answer the question you know: should you go and pick up the Samsung Galaxy tab a7 still, even though it's been out for a couple of months and the hype's kind of dying out now.
I'll be honest, like I think, like I said before, this tablet has a lot of capabilities. It has a lot of character, but I just don't know if this is the one for a lot of people out there. If you have a specific reason why you want to go ahead and pick up a Samsung Galaxy tab, a7, then by all means, go ahead and pick it up. I think you're going to have a pretty okay experience with that. I'm not going to say it's going to be great, I'm not going to say it's like horribly horrible, but I'm definitely not going to sit here and say this iPad, but I'm definitely not going to sit here and say this tablet hasn't been like, but I'm not going to sit here and say this tablet has been great, or it's been perfect, and it's perfect for the price.
That's not the case at all. I feel like this tablet, for whatever I paid, for. I think it was less than 300. Just wasn't worth it. You know what I mean like.
I wouldn't even pay a hundred dollars. For this thing I would not pay. I would rather buy an iPad like eighth generation than this thing and those things are around the same price give or take like 50 to 100 dollars, and I don't do it. I would rather buy like an iPad 7 generation, or I would rather buy like, is, or I'd rather buy like an older Galaxy Tab, s6 or something like that in the used market. Then, rather pick up this thing, because I'm not really a huge fan of it, I feel like Samsung could have done a little better, but it is what it is and there's nothing.
We can really do about it anymore but, like I said, if you want to pick one up for some reason, I'll go ahead and leave the links down in the description you can get them from there and help support the channel at the same time.
