Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra vs S20 Ultra vs S10+ | Time for an Upgrade? By LEAP ALIFE.

Welcome to leave a life, the galaxy s21s are out and there are a lot of changes: they're fresh with latest top-of-the-line specs, whether it's Enos 2100 or the snapdragon 8. It is the flagship phone of 2021. Looking at the spec sheets, there are only a couple of upgrades new design, new chipset, the snapdragon 8 or the Enos 2100, improved gorilla glass, vectors for better protection, faster UFS, 3.1 storage, a larger fingerprint scanner and a quad HD resolution at 120 hertz. So on paper, there's not really that much of a difference between the s20 ultra and the s21 ultra. It's just a minor tweak and upgrade here and there I'll go ahead and say it's not worth the upgrade. If you're currently using the s20, ultra you'll barely notice any difference, but for the s10 plus users, the s21 ultra is a massive upgrade.

This is why, let's kick things off with the design? One of the biggest changes within the s21 series module is no doubt the design. The s21 series all came with a new camera module that merged with the size of the phone to create that seamless design. That feels really fresh. The s21 ultra is the only phone that opted for the frosted glass panel instead of a shiny glass back just like in the s20 ultra and the s10 plus. I have to say that the frosted glass on the s21 ultra feels really nice in hand.

The s21 ultra and the s20 ultra both have a protruded camera module that makes these two device unable to lie steadily on the flat surfaces, while on the good old s10 plus, has a very minimum camera bump and, as you guys might expect from ultra module. This phone is like a solid block of metal. There are heavy they're not comfortable to hold. If you put a case on it's even worse, this problem persists on both s20 ultra and s21 ultra, and when you look back to the s10 plus thin and pretty light body, it is instantly the best feeling among the three one thing that you are going to miss out. If you upgrade for either a s20 ultra or s21 ultra or any s-series phone in the future is the 3.5 millimeter headphone port. The s10 series are the last Samsung flagship phones with headphone port.

So beware of that here the Samsung s21 ultra only has a dual sim tray that does not support expandable storage. What the s20 ultra and the s10 plus does for many a hybrid sim tray is very essential. Sure. Not everyone uses it because for many people, a 128 or 256 gigabytes of storage is surely plenty but having an option to upgrade the storage after the purchase is always a better thing to have for the dual sims' user. Putting in a micros card does not mean you can't have the second sim card in the phone.

You can add an e-sim to your phone, while the two slots are occupied by another sim card at micros. I'll have to say this is one absolute downgrade from the s21 ultra. If you're definitely in need of expandable storage buy the s20 ultra instead. Moving on to the display, all phones feature a quad HD plus display, but the s10 plus is only 60hz screen, while the s20 ultra and the s21 ultra supports 120 hertz, the s20 ultra can only do it with the resolution. Dialed down to full HD the reason Samsung crippled, the s20 ultra-high refresh rate mode is because of the battery issue.

The 120 hertz really impacts the battery performance. The reason why the s21 is able to support 120 hertz at full, quad HD resolution, it's because of the new display technology that supports dynamic, refresh rate of 10 to 120 hertz. While this sounds like a big deal, the difference between quad HD and full HD is not that noticeable anyway. You'll have to look real close to be able to distinguish the difference. There is no problem with 60 hertz on the s10 plus, but the smooth user experience you gain from upgrading to a 120hz display is simply day and night.

One downside of upgrading 220 hertz display is when you go back to 60 hertz. It really frustrates you of how laggy it feels when compared to the two. It is really weird. When two years ago you were using this phone, just fine performance, wise, the s21 ultra comes with the new and improved snapdragon triple eight or the Enos 2100, with enhanced performance on every aspect. So, on paper, everything is faster compared to the snapdragon 865 and Enos 990.

What will you, the user notice? The difference I mean honestly, the s20 ultra already flies through everyday tasks with ease which begs the question: do you really need that level of performance when the s20 already annihilate every task thrown at them? Even the Enos 990, which really lags behind the snapdragon 865? It still performs really well in everyday tasks. However, upgrading from the s10 plus the differences are a lot more dramatic. The snapdragon 855 and the Enos 9820 on the s10 plus is a two-year-old chipset, which is really long time for the world of smartphones. The newer chipset will be more powerful and, at the same time, more power efficient. It's definitely an upgrade if you're, firm, s10, plus the s21 ultra, is currently running in one UI 3.1 on android 11. , while the s10 plus and the s20 ultra is upgradable to one UI 3.0 on android 11. , it's been two years since the release of the Galaxy S10 plus, which means the android version update, is approaching its end.

It is expected to be only one more version update for the s10 plus, which is android 12 for s20 ultra and s21. Ultra Samsung also promised three years of update, so there will be two and three years of upgrade respectively. The 4100 William hour battery on the s10 plus is no slouch, but this is 2021 and the 4100 William hour battery is for little guys. The big boys are in the 5 000 William hour lead now. The battery performance between the s21 ultra and s20 ultra is barely noticeable.

They both feature a massive 5000mah battery, which is plenty for a day. So again, upgrading from s20 ultra won't benefit much on battery life, but if you are upgrading from s10 plus, you will definitely see the difference. Oh, and the most important thing you get with the s10 plus and the s20 ultra, but not s21, is a wall charger inside the box, rip water charger. Next, let's talk about the camera. Samsung's camera gets better every year and this year is no different.

Spec wise, the camera on the s21 ultra is identical to the one on s20 ultra, except for the brand-new telephoto lens. It is a new sensor. After all, along with improved software, the s21 ultra's photos are definitely better than on the s20 ultra, even though the difference is not so significant. Comparing to the s10 plus the differences are even more obvious, so yeah, the camera is obviously an upgrade. You'll get a larger sensor, higher resolution and better software here.

So to answer the question: should you upgrade? I would definitely say: yes, if you are from s10 plus or older phones, but if you're currently running a s20 ultra I'll say it's not really that big of a difference, maybe the s22 or the s30, or if you want the latest highest end, bleeding edge phone, just go for it. The s21 ultra is definitely a good phone with a very nice feature to be a daily driver, android phone for you. So what do you think?
