Morning another day, another wearable test today we're doing it on the Samsung Galaxy s21 ultra and if you're not familiar a real test on this channel is where I'm gonna kind of go through my normal day. My sim card is in this phone. I'm going to use all my normal messaging apps and Gmail, and all the things that you normally use I'll also take photos with this phone and a few of its competitors and put those up on the screen. So you guys can check that out, and we'll check on the battery throughout the day. Also, I will be shooting some footage from the camera like. I am right now, and you'll know that, because there'll be some writing at the bottom of the screen to indicate when I'm using the phone versus my real camera, but first things first YouTube.
It's good to see you too friends coffee, check, okay, figured! We would try to do a more well more traditional real world test like I have been doing, and I kind of miss doing which is like where we kind of explore. While we're doing the review now, we were going to go actually somewhere and travel somewhere, but with Nova being the way that it is we're kind of uh. Don't think that's a great idea, so instead we're going to explore New York city a bit now before we do that. Let's really quickly just talk about the design of this phone because I kind of like it. I don't know, there's something about it.
It's like dense, there's, good weight distribution, something it just feels premium which considering it's the most expensive phone in the series, is probably a good thing. Now it comes in two colors. There are some others that you can be special order if you're willing to wait for them, but otherwise it's white, which is actually like a adolescent white and kind of changes, color a little which is cool, and then this black that Samsung waxed poetic about for quite a while in their presentation when it comes to design black, isn't just a color, it's all colors in one. It's bold! Yet understated black is classic style, luxury elegance itself and as weird as that might have been, it is a nice black. It's like a nice matte black and has kind of like a frosted glass, feel to the back.
I like it literally 20 minutes after I was talking about how nice it is boom boom, we're hiding on the back of the boat, because it's kind of cold to be on a boat. It's a quick boat ride, and now we're in Manhattan. That's a very new entrance. It's a Penn station, that's not quite where we're trying to go right! That's where we're going! This is Moynihan train hall, and it is a much-needed extension to Penn station, which is a very overutilized train station here in New York city. Now, if you don't live in New York, you probably haven't really heard that much about Penn station.
You have heard about grand central, which is beautiful and lovely and a great place to start a journey somewhere, whereas Penn station, it's kind of trash, so yeah. If you want to think about an airport, circa 1960. This is about what it is. This took 28 years to make it went through 13 designs, five New York governors, eight Amtrak presidents, and it finally opened on January 1st of this year. Now, essentially, this whole block basically is called the Farley building, and it used to be a post office, a massive post office, but, of course, as email took over for letters, it downsized more and more.
In fact, the rest started to be used for events. I can't remember being here for like a note event a long time ago, and this main hall, which has the cool skylights um, actually used to be a 31 000 square foot, male, sorting, room and honestly, I think, there's just something to be said: that's kind of cool for seeing a brand-new train station in New York city in like a very historic building, and if we're honest, it's probably not going to look this pristine for very long passengers. He just keeps popping up all over the place. Okay, let's check into the battery before we leave here. It is 3 30 p.
m, and we are at 63 percent okay, Bryant park. Uh, the winter outdoor market is still going, it's like all these little shops, and you can get like hot chocolate, and you know stuff like that. It's kind of nice, but we also have the ice skating rink, which happens to be the only free ice skating rink in all of New York city, and I think this might be a good place to talk about the cameras. So we have four proper rear cameras. None of this, like macro or like depth of field sensor stuff, like four proper cameras that you can actually shoot with.
We have an ultra-wide, a main, a three times telephoto and a ten times telephoto, it's the same as the Huawei p40 pro plus, which personally is exactly what I want on here two times. Tell just doesn't feel far enough to me to be different from the main camera. So three is better to me and then ten times actually lets you get some interesting shots and since those are optical, zooms and not weird digital ones, they actually do a pretty decent job. Now we do speaking of those weird digital zooms still have 30 times and a hundred times, but as you've already seen, those are still more gimmicks than useful 100 times is basically an oil painting. Now we also have a new version of Samsung's single tank which records a video and creates a bunch of photos and videos and slo-mo and boomerang-like things, etc.
It's novel, I guess, but it's just not something I would personally use, but I don't know some people might like it now. Lastly, we can record video in up to 8k 24 frames per second and also 4k up to 60 frames. A second. You can also use director's view, which is a new feature to see previews of each of the rear cameras and choose from them, which is kind of cool, but it only does the front and one rear camera at a time, and they're combined. Personally, I wish it would.
Let me record two. Camera feeds, at least of my choosing instead, like film pro, does on the iPhone, but whatever okay, real, quick, let's check in the battery, it is 4:44 p. m, and we are at 54 percent, look who else showed up it's cold, and now we're trying to find dinner in Koreatown, gentlemen, happy winter time in New York city, oh yeah, I just have so many feeding fronts. Damn who needs anything else, fruity tropical drinks. It's the only thing he drinks with a LED.
It has a light in it. So he's really excited all right. It took us a while to find a place because a lot of the places have like outdoor dining, but it's basically being inside, and we're just like not comfortable with that with coconut and stuff. But eventually we did find a place. We were a little nervous about it, but Korean beer, K-pop, delicious bitmap, bye, guys goodbye to you, sir okay, calling it a night.
It is 10:03 p. m, and we are at 12 and here's my screen on time and my battery usage for anyone who's curious about that. Also. This was with the phone set to its default settings, so auto brightness 5g was on. I was using ATT and FHD plus resolution since that's what it was set to out of the box and honestly um, considering the amount of like 8k video I shot in video in general and photos I took, and you can see my battery usage and kind of all the apps that I used all day long.
I think it did a pretty good job like for sure battery life is great and, lastly, we need to talk about the fact that the ultra in the s21 lineup supports the s pen. Now it doesn't come with it, it's an extra 40, and it's sold separately. There's also no place to put it, but you can pay a little extra and get a case that has a place to put the s pen as well as the fact that it only works for kind of sketching and drawing, and it does not work for things like uh, the air commands or like remote of use of the shutter things that require Bluetooth essentially. But there's that, frankly, I think bringing the pen to the ultra of the s series comes out. The fact that Samsung probably has data to know that the s ultra users and the note ultra users and the fold users are all probably overlapping a little in interest.
They are also by the way, their smallest demographic and a very particular type. I mean they're like the early adopters. They need the latest and greatest specs etc. But the pen, on the other hand, I think, is probably a nice addition to the people who maybe would normally go for that potentially soon to be merged out note series, and they can buy that if they want it for this series and it kind of just like eases everybody into what we think the trajectory is going to be. But then, on the other hand, if they don't want the pen, or they know that they won't use it, they can just simply not buy it and save a little of money.
And that brings us to the fact that this phone is also 200 less than its predecessor, the s20 ultra and 100 less. Even than the note 20 ultra still, and yet I feel like it kind of does a better job than either of those two devices and basically everything except for storing a pen inside the phone like with the note, obviously now it's still not cheap but better for less money. It's just always a good trajectory to see right now, I'll leave links below to the best deals that I could find on this phone also to the places that we visited in case anyone's curious about that and links to my buddies videos. So you can see maybe more traditional reviews or also just get a different perspective of kind of some of the things you saw and new and other sample footage as well. But let me know in the comments below what you guys thought of the phone of this video of the format, I'm still kind of tweaking it a little and experimenting here and there, so we'd love to hear your feedback as always.
Now, if you like this video, though please thumb up it or share it greatly appreciate also check out the rest of the channel. If you like to see there, please subscribe and ding the bell next to subscribe, so you get notified when I do new videos as always, though, regardless thanks for watching.
