Samsung Galaxy S20 FE | Full Review By Matt Robb

Fill me out with your smile: let the sunshine breathe, hey guys, welcome back it's mat there, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy s20 Fe. So this is the new fan edition from Samsung, and you know, I'm not the earliest to the game, like other people have made videos but fortunate enough. For me, my friend actually picked one up so Nilesh, which is my friend featured in the intro of this video, actually went ahead and picked up this phone because he thought it was a good device and overall he wanted me to take a look at it, and I wanted to make a video for you guys just giving my overall impressions. So we did spend quite a lot of time together, and I was actually going through and sort of playing around with his phone and sort of getting to know it more familiar with it, and I was asking him about the cons, the flaws and things like that. So a lot of this is sort of his opinion merged with my opinion, but overall it's listing off so the specs and the things you can expect from this phone that are going to be different from more high-end phones like the s20 ultra, which is actually my daily driver, and you know I absolutely love the s20 ultra, it's a great phone, it's quite highly priced. This is actually about half the price, so 700 for the Fe 1400 for the ultra.

So you know, are you really getting twice the phone with the ultra? I don't think you are, I think, you're getting a spec bump you're, getting some more features and some nice things that people would like in their phone, but realistically you're getting everything you need with the Fe. So it's really nice just to go ahead and take a look and dive in really what are the flaws about it. So without any further ado, let's just go ahead and do that. So obviously, one of the good things I pointed out was that the price is only 700 or 700 pounds. It's an perfect priced phone for 2020 standards, especially with the specs that it has, but there seems to be some sort of argument going on about the build quality being awful and things like that, and so, when I actually held it in hand, I was really surprised because all of these rumors online, all these people saying it's cheap plastic.

It feels terrible when I actually held it. I was like wow. It's actually perfect like it feels way better than my expectations were so yeah the phone was plastic, but it was solid. It wasn't creaky it had like a nice build quality to it. The actual bezel around the film was metal and overall it just it felt kind of nice in the hand- and I, like the matte finish better than the actual glossiness on my s20 ultra.

So I actually liked it feeling hand was perfect for me now. Obviously it still is plastic, and you know it could have been a slightly better quality, but you're going to put it in a phone case anyway. I personally think it's okay, something I just want to point out. That's really, really good for people in Europe. If you want to pick up an Enos edition of a Samsung phone, the 5g version of the Fe is using the snapdragon 865 over the Enos 990, which is actually really nice and technically means.

The Fe is more powerful than the ultra oh yeah. Just to put that out there it technically is. It does get a higher geek bench score and overall, it does have a more efficient processor as well as a more powerful one. So you're going to get better battery life as well out of this. So this is a pretty large battery.

It's 4500 William hours, which is just smaller than the 5000 in the ultra. However, you've got that much smaller display. It's only 6.5 inches over the 6.9 inch huge display on the ultra, so you're going to get actually pretty good battery life with the efficiency, smaller screen and a pretty large battery um. It's actually perfect. You get about six or seven hours screen on time and my ultra kind of gets about five.

If I'm really pushing it um, but you can definitely expect some great battery life from the Fe. So to talk about the display, there seems to be also some sort of argument thing going on about the display, because yeah Samsung did cut it a bit short and only include a full HD display, but it's still capable of 120 hertz, which is actually better than some other flagships out there, like the new Google Pixel, and something else to consider is yes, there is a higher resolution display on the ultra, but the display is also bigger and actually step it down because of the 120 hertz limitations, so I'm only using full HD on my ultra as well so realistically side by side. It's about the same and they're. Both very punchy contrasted displays you're still getting that two million to one color contrast: ratio, you're still getting all the beautiful features about a Samsung display. The only slight thing: that's different is its more flat, and it's got the less rounded edges, it's just more of a front on flat display, which I personally like I like that a lot.

It means you're not going to get accidental touches, and just overall it looks a bit cleaner to me, and it's just easier to use now. Something you might want to consider is against drops. This phone might not hold up as well. You know it is plastic on the back, so the back will hold up good and probably better than any other glass pack, but the front is only gorilla glass 3, which is not too bad, but it's probably not going to hold up well against scratches and drops its just going to be a slight downgrade from the other ones, because pretty much every phone right now is using gorilla, glass, 6. , so you're probably going to see a slight drop in terms of like the anti-scratchness of your screen, it's probably going to pick up more sort of hairline scratches and things like that and yes, it does come with a screen protector installed.

But it's still something to consider now something nice to see is the fingerprint scanners here on the Fe, and it is the ultrasonic one, so you're not going to see any degrade in quality or speed or security against any other s20 device in terms of performance, though it pretty much flew through everything. It's got the higher power chip than all the other s20s in Europe, and it holds up against all the North American s20s, because it's got the same chip in it. The only real difference is there's only eight gigabytes of ram, but realistically all my applications held up really well. In the background nothing closed everything was sort of perfect and smooth yeah. I can't really see any performance difference.

I would assume this was pretty much exactly the same as the s20 North American edition, but yeah pretty much. Everything else is very, very similar to the s20, even just the look of it. Pretty much just looks like the standard s20, but it's just more of a budget edition and somewhere where they did kind of cut back a little was the cameras. It's only got a 12 megapixel main camera, but it does have a wide angle as well as a three times optical zoom, so you're not getting like the super zoom on the ultra, but you're still holding up well against the standard s20, and you still have 4k video recording. You still have a 32 megapixel camera on the front, but when comparing this to the ultra, I did see obviously a difference, because the ultra's got the insane zoom it has more megapixels and just overall when zooming in I could see it was crisper on the ultra.

But something else that was slightly different was the image processing. So when I went ahead and did some videos, it just didn't, look quite as good on the Fe, it looked a bit flatter and sort of over sharpened, whereas the ultra tended to have more sort of depth of field. It had like a better sort of dynamic range going on, so I'll. Let you guys decide here is a quick clip of the cameras compared to each other. So let me know what you think down below okay, so now we're recording both 4k at 60fps.

S20 ultra on the right s20fe on the left, I'm pretty sure the sort of overall balance of the brightness seems better on the ultra. It seems a little more contrasted or saturated as well, so more colors, definitely overall, maybe a little more depth, but both cameras perform very similar. They've got very similar field of view, and they've obviously got the Samsung sort of color science going on and image processing, but yeah. Let me know what you think about these: okay, hey guys. This is a video test using the front facing camera.

So over on the right we have the s20 Fe and over on the left, we have the s20 ultra. So this is both 4k at 60fps. So yeah, let me know what you think, which one I mean. Obviously the ultra is more expensive, but how do you think the fee holds up in terms of colors exposure? To me, it looks more saturated on the ultra. Maybe my face looks a little better as well as the highlights.

The dynamic range looks a bit better but yeah. What do you think of the audio so audio on the Fe are now audio on the s20 ultra so yeah? Let me know your thoughts down below, but uh yeah. So to sum it all up, I would say: if you're in Europe, I would say, pick up the Fe 5g edition over the standard s20 purely because you have the better processor in it, more efficiency, better battery life, and it's actually slightly cheaper as well. If you're in North America, I would say it's definitely worth considering whether the drawbacks of the Fe are worth the price difference from the bumped up, s20, just the standard version. So that's definitely something you might want to consider and take a closer look at.

Do you really want to get the slight extra resolution, or do you just want to use 120 hertz? Those are the things you kind of want to consider. Do you want a slightly better build thumb? Do you want that sort of curved edge, or do you want flatter screen? Do you want the slightly smaller hole? Punch and you know the hole punch on the Fe does actually have this kind of chrome outline. So I'm not a big fan of that it kind of makes it stand out a little more um, but yeah there are some things you might want to think about, but both of them are very, very similar. But realistically you just want to try and look at the small differences and see if they're worth the price jump, but other than that, I would say, just go for the budget version. If you have a budget- and you don't want to spend too much money, then you're- probably not going to notice too much difference, and you're not really going to suffer from any lack of feature.

It's just going to be slightly not as good as the one that's more expensive, which is expected. So yeah, that's pretty much it. That's my overall review my experience of using this device. Definitely let me know your opinion down below. I'm super interested, whether you're going to pick this up and what you really think about this device, but yeah other than that.
