What's going on guys, my name is wade with tech daily and in this video we're going to be comparing the Samsung Galaxy, s20 Fe to the Samsung Galaxy m51. Now, to be honest, I actually consider these two phones to be kind of different. They each offer a handful of unique features that might be important to you, depending on what it is you want out of your smartphone, and I do know that these two phones have been out for a couple of months now, but a lot of you guys have been requesting this comparison as we approach the holiday season, especially I figure you're, probably still trying to nail down which new phone you might want to get. So I won't waste any more time. Let's just go ahead and get right into it and see what these phones have to offer. First off: let's talk pricing and availability.
Now, depending on where you are in the world, you may not be able to get or have even heard of the m51. The m-series is primarily for folks in India and Asia, but you can still import this phone to your respective country. If you want it, that's what I did and the price for this guy is going to be around 350, which I think is a perfect deal, considering everything you get. On the other hand, the s20 Fe is widely available around the world, especially here in the US, but it is the more expensive device. This phone technically starts at 6.99, but Samsung is currently offering some holiday promotional deals that bring price down to 5.99, which is kind of nice. Either way you look at it, though.
The s20 Fe is going to be 200 to 300 more than the m51, which I think is already something worth considering. It's certainly a significant price difference, but if you guys are interested in doing some comparison, shopping of your own or maybe want to get a jump on these holiday deals, I'll leave some links down below in the video description to where you can get both of these phones at their cheapest current prices physically at least at first glance, there's really not a lot that sets these phones apart, especially from the front though size wise. The m51 is the larger device here comes in at 6.7 inches, while the s20 Fe is a 6.5 inch device. The difference here is mainly in height. The m51 is a bit taller, while both devices are about the same width in the hand, either way you go, it's a bit of a stretch reaching the top edge and corners with one-handed use.
Both these phones are very big in their own right, but if you're looking for a Samsung device with a big display, these are two of the largest phones available and for pretty decent price points. All in all, though, I don't really consider the tiny bit of extra height to be too beneficial on the m51 when we're considering screen size around back. It may not be too obvious at first, but both these phones are made from the same material. Basically just with a different finish. The m51 is a shiny, glossy plastic rear housing, while the s20 Fe has a flat, matte plastic cover, and it's just going to be a matter of personal opinion here as to what it is.
You like more, though, that s20 Fe does have a number of color options to choose from. If you like that, with the sides and the frame again, both these phones have the same metal build just with different finishes. It's a dull, unpolished silver on the m51, while the s20 Fe has a shiny, polished, chrome, color matching finish: there's more of a tapered design as well with the s20 Fe, the edges sort of slim down to make the phone feel thinner while the m51 is a very thick, very chunky phone and there's not much that hides that material, wise, no matter how you look at it. These are metal, framed phones with plastic backs which might be a point against the more expensive s20fe in comparison, but what it lacks in premium materials it makes up for in features. The s20fe is ip68 water and dust resistant.
The m51 has no IP rating. The s20 Fe also supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging via Samsung's power share. Again, neither of those charging options are found on the m51. In the end, comparatively the s20 Fe does offer more, but you'll kind of have to consider. If any of those extra features really matter to you, taking a look around at everything else on the left side is where you find the m51 sim and SD card tray, while on the s20 Fe, its sim and SD card tray are at the top on the right side.
Both phones have a power button and volume buttons, though the m51's power button is a little special which I'll discuss in a second down below both phones have an USB charging port and downward firing speaker. But here the m51 also has a headphone jack, something the s20 Fe dropped, but with the speaker setup, the s20 Fe offers dual stereo speakers with the additional one in the earpiece, something the m51 doesn't have and to me, the dual speaker setup does make a difference. I think the out loud listening experience is better on the s20 Fe and here's just a quick, sound sample. So you can get an idea around back. There's also some important differences in the camera.
Setups too I'll dive a little deeper with that in just a minute, but let's first jump back to the special power button on the m51. It's hard to tell, but this m51s power button doubles as its fingerprint sensor, and I have to say this is just one small thing that I really like about this phone. Having a fingerprint sensor in general is just a big plus nowadays, but having a physical sensor on the phone means, it's fast, accurate and less finicky than say an in-display reader like this one on the s20 Fe now, fortunately, the in-display reader here is flagship quality, it's fast and fairly accurate, but in a side-by-side test you can see there is a noticeable difference. The m51's fingerprint sensor is quite a bit faster, it's more accurate and just easier to feel for and find it's absolutely what I prefer. On the other hand, though, both phones do offer face unlock as well, and in this case it's the s20 Fe, that's a bit faster with getting into the phone, so all in all different, unlocking methods here with different speeds.
But I do really like that sensor on the m51, in particular, in regard to their displays, there's quite a bit more going on here. Besides the slight differences in screen size first with the specs, both these phones do have Samsung's super AMOLED panels. The m51 gets the plus distinction here, and this phone has a resolution of 2400 by 1080 at 393 pixels per inch, while the s20 Fe has the same 2400 by 1080 resolution, but with 407 pixels per inch, since it is a little smaller side by side. What I found sort of interesting actually is just how different these displays do. Look I'd, say: they're almost like calibrated differently, but it goes a little beyond that.
I think color, temperature and white balance are just different. The s20 Fe I considered to be brighter and more colorful. And overall I do like the look of that phone more. I've made some adjustments to the display on the m51 to try and bring it closer, but I think the difference is still pretty clear now. In some sense, the brighter more colorful s20fe display might be a plus if you're into that look.
But at the same time I do think the m51 tends to present things in a more natural look. Color aside, they're both the same resolution and offer pretty much the same amount of detail and honestly, you can't go wrong with either when it comes to just your general content. Viewing experience. The huge difference here, though, is just the fact that the s20 Fe also offers that 120 hertz high refresh rate mode with this enabled you're getting a fast fluid, very responsive, feel with every tap touch and swipe. I think it's most obvious if you see how the screen more closely follows my finger on the s20 Fe, with this up close side by side test, but overall the s20 Fe just feels way.
Snappier with this enabled and to be honest, while 90hz or 120hz high refresh rate option, isn't exactly popping up on a lot of smartphones in this price range. Nowadays, it is starting to come up more and more just in the general smartphone space, and I think a lot of people are really valuing it. Now the m51 kind of came out before high refresh rate was really being pushed, and, if you haven't yet experienced it, it's not a huge miss but getting it on the s20 Fe. I do think is really one of the big reasons to even consider this phone in general. It's a flagship addition to a phone, that's offered at a really reasonable price.
Now spec and performance wise, while the internals of the phones differ quite a bit. Things are a little closer than maybe you might expect. The m51 packs are really respectable: snapdragon 730g, chipset, six or eight gigs of ram and 128 gigabytes of storage with SD card expansion. The s20 Fe, on the other hand, is very much a flagship device in a sense when you consider, what's inside, as the snapdragon 865 processors, the same six or eight gigs of ram, but 128 or 256 gigabytes of UFS 3.1 storage with SD card support. Furthermore, the actual software experience on these two phones is a little different too.
The m51 ships with Samsung one UI core, while the s20 Fe, has the full 1ui experience, they're, both android 10 and on the surface. You might not really be able to tell a difference, but with one UI core, the m51 misses certain features like Samsung pass and Samsung pay, the full NOX security suite the secure folder and a handful of other little things. This again is something you just need to take into consideration. You may not notice or even care about some of those things, but just not getting the full one. UI experience is a bit of a bummer, however performance wise at least tapping and touching through the UI and launching the stock android apps.
These phones are almost identical in their speed, which I found kind of surprising. The s20 Fe pulls ahead from time to time, but the difference isn't too drastic at all, and I think that's great for the m51 in particular, especially when considering the prices on these two phones. However, when you do jump over to some third-party games, the difference becomes a little more clear. The snapdragon 865 and the s20 few ill generally yield you a little faster launch and load times for your favorite games, but fortunately we're talking like a second or two of a difference. If that the m51 is still a very capable, very powerful device, and it can do anything and everything you'd want it to do, but with the s20 FM, while you obviously are paying more, you are getting essentially 20 20 flagship specs inside, while the m51 is maybe a step or so down in comparison where the m51 makes up.
For this, though, is with its battery capabilities. This phone is probably known for one thing in particular: it's 7 000 William battery inside this is not just the largest capacity Samsung phone out right now, but it's one of the largest batteries in any smartphone. The s20 Fe still packs a respectable 4500 William battery inside, and it's certainly enough to get you through a day's use, but this m51 has easily lasted me two full days on a single charge, like I said already, if there's but one reason to get the m51 it's because of the battery, it's really just unmatched, and it's obviously the standout feature for this phone in particular, and by the way you can even use this phone with its massive battery as a power bank of sorts to charge other devices via USB. So that's pretty cool, and I consider that to be a bit more useful than power share on the s20fe. Also, what I found sort of interesting inside the box, the m51 ships with the larger, faster USB wall, plug which kind of makes sense, since this phone does take two hours to fully charge even with this brick but the more expensive s20fe ships with a cheaper, smaller slower wall plug, even though it does support the faster charging standard and given the price on the s20fe, I'm just a little disappointed, Samsung cheaper out with something like that.
Finally, let's talk cameras and once again, we've got a lot going on here, but it's likely going to depend on what it is you personally value. The m51 has a really solid quad lens camera setup. Around back, that's made up of a 64 megapixel main lens 12 megapixels, ultra-wide 5, megapixel depth, sensor and 5 megapixel macro and up front. It's got a 32 megapixel selfie lens with the s20 Fe. This phone has a 12 megapixel main shooter, 8, megapixel, telephoto lens and 12 megapixel ultra-wide and up front.
It, too, has a 32, megapixel selfie lens now it may seem like at first with the specs that the s20 Fe falls short, but in practice it's actually the better shooter. The s20 Fe very much has a flagship camera setup and in my opinion it has the trifecta of useful lenses, the telephoto lens for all you're zooming and a solid main lens and ultra-wide lens. The m51 offers a high megapixel shooting mode with its 64 megapixel lens, which is great. The s20 Fe does not offer that and the m51's wide angle is certainly comparable, but the macro lens, in my opinion, isn't particularly useful, and the depth sensor is something the s20fe does not need to have. In general, though, I really do like the pictures coming from the m51.
It's essentially the same camera setup from the a71, so there's not a lot to complain about, but the s20 fee is comparable to the flagship, s20 so side by side. I think the s20 Fe has the edge here. All in all, there's definitely a lot to consider here with these two phones. The m51 is a well-priced phone that offers a great foundation of specs, a big AMOLED display and literally the largest battery you can get on a Samsung device. On the other hand, while the s20 Fe is much more expensive, it's a slightly more powerful device with a handful of more features and a better camera setup.
I think looking long-term, especially I'd go with the s20 Fe. If I had the extra cash, but to be honest, the m51 is really, really good for the price. What do you guys think? Which phone would you prefer? Let me know in the comments down below I'd love, to know your thoughts. Of course. Hopefully, you guys did enjoy this.
