Not, quite as expensive as a flagship phone, the new galaxy a8 plus 2018 is Samsung's latest upper mid-range phone for those who want a big screen phone with a Super AMOLED screen and the Samsung experience onboard hello guys. My name is Vic Christophe with fawn arena, and I've spent the last week with the galaxy a8 plus and while it is very similar to the flagship, Galaxy S series with the glass and metal design and waterproofing on the outside. This is a completely different phone on the inside. So should you get it let's find out, while similar to the Galaxy S nine plus there are a few differences with the eight plus that you notice upon closer inspection. It loves the elegant curves of the flagships and feels bigger heavier and bulkier. It's still not a giant phone.

Considering that you have a six-inch display, but it's not quite as elegant as the flagships with a reflective glass back. This phone is also an absolute fingerprint magnet, especially this black version that we have here. A case is strongly recommended. On the left side, you have the volume keys, but the Bigamy button from other Samsung phones is missing. You do have Samsung's Bigamy voice assistant onboard just not the dedicated physical button for it.

On the bottom, you have a USB-C port for charging and a headphone jack. The eight plus also has an IP 68 water resistance rating, meaning that it will survive a third dive in water and those summer days by the pool. The fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the phone below the camera. So it's easy to reach. The finger scans are not quite as fast as we've seen on other phones, and there is a slight delay that you may notice.

You also have face identification that you can use alongside fingerprint recognition, and it does a decent job. During the day, the 8 plus features a six-inch Super AMOLED display that looks gorgeous and features. Lush, colors and deep blacks. Samsung calls this an infinity display like on its flagships, but the bezels here actually look much, much bigger than on the Galaxy S series, and this definitely ruins a lot of that. Bezel-Less, futuristic, look and feel for all else.

This screen is really the focal point and the biggest advantage. The eighth plus has over its rivals it's bright, so we can see it relatively easily outdoors, and it has rich colors. As with all Samsung AMOLED displays, you have the choice of different color modes and settings. The default adaptive mode produces lively, lush, over saturated colors, but you can also switch to a more toned down. Look with a color mode like the basic one.

You also have the always-on display feature on the 8 plus it takes some additional battery power. So it's up to you whether you want to use it or not. If you do, a good tip would be to go into settings and set it up to not work at night. If you probably don't need it, then it's disappointing to see that the galaxy 8 plus runs on the dated Android 7 new girl out of the box, which is a shame for a phone selling in 2018. An update to Android Ohio is in the plans, but it's almost time for Google to unveil Android 9 soon.

So it's definitely very, very late already on top of Android. Here you have the Samsung experience interface with the unmistakable, colorful, squirrel icons and the typical look. Then you have power user features like split-screen, multitasking, Knox security and secure folder, where you can safely keep your private files and apps in terms of performance. The 8 plus runs on the Samsung Enos 78 85 ships. This is an upper mid-range ship that does not break any benchmarking records.

In fact, it scores lower than most of its mid-range rivals. So this is clearly not a phone for diehard gamers and those who push the limits of a phone performance in terms of storage. You get just 32 gigabytes onboard, while most other phones in this price range in 2018 now have double the storage. Fortunately, you do have a micros card slot to expand the onboard space. The 8 plus has 4G LTE connectivity with support for North, American and global bands.

So you can travel most of the world while getting good the connection in the United States. The phone will work with GSM carriers, AT&T and T-Mobile, but it's not compatible with Verizon Wireless or Sprint, while the a8 plus might look like Samsung's more expensive phones, its camera is clearly not the same. How do photos actually turn out, though? Well during the day? And when you have plentiful light, the eighth plus captures some very good-looking shots with lively pleasing colors and with good amount of detail only in a few shots. The eight was strangely underexposed, the scene significantly, but apart from those few shots, everything else looks fine at night and when there is less light, though the eight plus is not that great, as images would often turn blurry and noisy when it comes to selfies, though the galaxy A+ 2018 performs very good. The live focus effect is cool and makes selfies look memorable, giving them that DSLR, like blurred background, feel you can adjust.

The level of background blurs detail is sharp on the selfies. The rendition of skin tones is pleasant overall. This is definitely one of the better front cameras out there, but then comes the disappointing part. The A+ can only shoot video in up to 1080p video at 30 frames per second, while most rivals in the same price range can record 4k video 1080p video has nice colors, and it supports digital stabilization. That does a nice job, but it lacks detail sorely something that is very noticeable on a bigger screen.

You have a single loudspeaker in the 8 plus, and it's positioned on the right side of the phone. We saw the same strange position for a loudspeaker in the galaxy a series last year and while it is non-traditional, we find it a good place for a speaker as it doesn't get muffled when you hold the phone or when you lay it on a table. Thankfully there's a headphone jack on board as well, so you can easily plug in wired headphones when you need to. We have no way choose with the actual call quality and the galaxy egg. Plus it's easy to recognize.

The natural tonality of your colors voice in the earpiece and sound is of good quality. The 8 plus 2018 features a 30 500 William hour battery the same sizes on the s9 + and about the average for a device of this size. We did not have any problems getting through a full day and the eight loss will keep enough charge to last through even those longer days, which is about what you expect from a phone with a good battery life. Still, the a12 battery is good, but not extraordinary, and this is not a phone that will last 2 days off the charger, we're an hour battery life test on the phone, and it scored nine hours in 24 minutes better than the flagship, s9 + and s8 plus price itself. Five thirty years dollars slightly higher than the $600 price Samsung is asking for a 20-17 Galaxy S8.

So, at the end of the day, you get what you pay for with the A+ a solid mid-range Samsung Android phone. If you value that beautiful AMOLED display and don't care too much about updates, this would be a good option. But if you're looking for performance speed and a bit more excitement, there seem to be quite a few other phones that fit those ideas better and this rounds out.
