A, quick, look at the smart battery case for iPhone 7 how's it going, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. This is Jeff Benjamin with nine-to-five Mac I have in hand right here the iPhone 7 smart battery case. This is a case. That's going to help you get through your day. If you find yourself consistently running out of battery life. Now the last generation smart battery case for the iPhone success looks very similar to the smart battery case for the iPhone 7.
In fact, if you were just glancing at them, you would think that they were exactly the same, but there are some definite differences to be found here so to illustrate I'm going to take my iPhone 7 and just slide it into the smart battery case. You can see it fits just perfectly no problems with fit. You can actually use somewhat a iPhone 7 in an old iPhone 6, smart battery case. The problem stems from the fact that the camera cut out on the rear of the iPhone 6s smart battery case is not big enough to accommodate the larger camera if they owned only iPhone 7. So that would mean you would have to take it out of the case.
Every time you wanted to snap a photo with the rear camera. Also, it has a spot for the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, which no longer exists, but that's not really a big deal. That's not going to stop you from using this case with your new iPhone 7, but it's the camera cutout. That poses the real issue, and it's the reason why you would want to upgrade to the iPhone 7 version of the smart battery case. As you can see already, the camera cutout is much larger to accommodate that larger iSight camera with that F 1.8 aperture. So this is going to allow you to take your photos with no obstructions, while the iPhone 7 is in this case, but as you can see other than that it looks very similar, but you will notice some other more subtle differences, for instance on the bottom lip here, you'll get the two slots instead of the dot in the slot, like you had on the ODE smart battery case, the slot on the left is for your microphone and the slot on the right is for the speaker and, of course, on the bottom of the device.
You'll find no cut out for the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, which was largely worthless anyway, on the old smart battery case, because it was just so narrow that only certain headphones worked with it like the ear pods, for instance, but if you used any other headphones at a larger connector yeah just didn't work, so not a huge loss there on the rear of the device. You'll notice that the Apple logo has changed a little bit now, a light gray color. Instead of that dark color inside the device you'll see. Basically, it's pretty much all the same there, but there is one small, maybe somewhat important detail that I haven't told you about, and that is that the new iPhone 7 smart battery case has greater battery capacity. So you get more than 20% extra battery capacity, so this thing is going to last longer up to four hours of internet browsing over LTE longer that that type of longer.
So that's what I'm talking about here. So this battery case is actually much better than the ODE outgoing battery case. Another thing you're going to notice another little difference here is that the camera cutout features no little black rim, like the old camera, cutout you'll see it right here, see the black rim around the old camera cutout that is no longer there. I think it looks better this way without that black rim. Now, if you've never used a smart battery case before you may be wondering to yourself, why would I pay $99 for this? What I can get something cheaper on Amazon for 50 bucks? Well, the reason is it just works in true Apple fashion when you place your iPhone in the smart battery case, it's basically just one device.
So all you need is a single Lightning connection that plugs into the bottom of the smart battery case that passes through via a lightning connection that is inside the case that the iPhone attaches to and yeah it just works. You use a single lightning cable to connect in charge, both the iPhone and the case. At the same time also, iOS has built-in features to help. You see how much battery life you have left right from the lock screen and also from the widget center, but more importantly, the smart battery case lives up to its name, meaning you don't have to manage it yourself at all. All you need to do is put your iPhone in this case, charge it, and you're good to go, there's no managing power buttons or turning on the case when you're running low on battery it does all that itself, it intelligently monitors battery life and will recharge your iPhone's battery as it sees fit.
Now not everyone will like the idea of not being in control, but personally I love the fact that the smart battery case just works.
